congrats, blip. didnt you start with 51 paintings? nice bump up to 80 in, what, 24 hrs?
At 10 AM yesterday, PST, I had 2. By noon, I was up to 59, and reached 62 later that day. Over 50 of those were stolen from MMaster, but a few were purchased using the money I stole from him and GotABigTrap
Today, I jumped up to 80 from my robbery of Herbert. It was actually a pretty dull robbery:
I used doorstops, water, and wire cutters to get through his entrance, alerting one dog in the process. I already knew from past experience that nothing was located down the hallways going straight down or up.
Before traveling into the next room, I used some bricks and meat to neutralize the dog I had seen.
In the next room, I checked both the routes: up and down. On the downward path, I spotted a one-thick wired wooden wall, and took my chance to cut through.
I found myself in some sort of combo lock area, and cut down from one of the buttons - on my way, I saw the vault! Getting there only required some more saws and a single ladder. His paintings were mine.
Honestly, in hindsight I should have brought another ladder, just in case. I was lucky that I managed to bypass so many well placed pits just by sheer number of saws.
Also, does anybody know if Herbert's still alive? I think that he probably has a wife up top (top right corner maybe? it explains why his trap was so vertically compressed), and want to get her so that he can't rebuild and take revenge.
Just took down Herbert, and bought some more paintings. Up to 80 paintings now, and I have a good enough house that I don't think I'll be trying to stay at a low value anymore (but I will be buying any and all good paintings at auction!).
Herbert, who's in second right now, seems to be popping on and off the list. Is somebody (Lopez maybe) scouting his place?
I think most of Callahan's old stuff ended up in my collection. I have a whopping 62 paintings now.
So Lopez is the official king now...
Looks like the de-throning must commence again! Though I doubt I'll be the one who does it, I'm far too cautious now that I have a good house and paintings.
The Castle Doctrine has two main ways to gauge your standing: your wealth in dollars and the amount of paintings you have. I know that some people have a personal preference of cash or paintings. I myself love hoarding paintings, especially aiming to get full sets (I still want the rest of the Dermatillomanian ones!), and am always surprised to see top houses without them. Personally, I think that having something unique that nobody else can have is cool, and that it's more desirable than generic wealth.
Which do you guys prefer: wealth or art?
I've already been hinting at one of the biggest issues with psych traps- they usually only work once. The two I've mentioned have become so common that they're practically useless at this point. Most people know how to spot the setup to the paradox trap and know what a clock powered entrance trap looks like. Instead of using other people's traps, for a good psych trap, you have to design your own- that's one of the reasons I like them so much
I'd say the most important part of one is presentation- you have to make it look like something else as much as possible, and encourage the robber to solve that trap, not the real one.
I find it really fun to design new psych traps. My completely original trap Korridor has been very successful, especially in its more secure third modification currently. I also just built a new psych trap, which I might dub Lucky, that will hopefully be successful as well.
Well, that cash served for some nice upgrades and a new painting in the collection! Up to 62 paintings now!
haha that was fast. That should have been more reinforced but I didn't like doing the self test because it would take forever. lol.
I liked your place, and wanted to solve it legit, but my final run was tooled just because I didn't want to die from cops. ![]()
I'm also so glad that the steel was only 5 thick! That was pure luck!
Welp, I did a dumb and forgot to bring a brick. There's a lot of cash down the drain.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how my next house is going to fare. The whole idea behind it is to kill well-tooled, experienced robbers by convincing them they're safe. One trap in particular I can't wait to see all of the death tapes- I think it's going to make a lot of people mad
How do you guys build anti brute force traps? No need to reveal your specific design, but some tips would be really appreciated. Is there any way besides a paradox circuit?
In my old house, Blood Blossom (see link in my sig), I used two effective counterforce traps. The first was a "corner of death", in which cutting in either direction once the dog sees you results in death.
The second is a magic dance, locked behind a door, on a clock-powered floor. One the robber enters, they're locked in and will die if they use tools because of the clock.
In general, counterforce traps cause tool use to be deadly, or cause tool use to prevent forward progress without cutting through thick walls.
This is in contrast to psychological traps, which are also designed to kill well-tooled robbers. Psych traps make the robber think that something is safe such that they don't even try to use tools. These traps are surprisingly effective once you have concrete walls and a simple failsafe; my current one, nicknamed "Korridor", has not been solved for over 2 weeks.
I like crazy psychological traps. One of my current ones is currently also a pretty strong counterforce trap, which I won't describe because I like my art.
I also use counterforce traps a lot (traps that discourage tool use), to the point of using them as a crutch to keep poorly built houses afloat. ![]()

Video, please? =P
Not just yet. I have some (non-TCD) work to do, and then have to actually to and finalize my solution before heading in with my main; I only can bring $4k work of tools with me!
Blip is going pokemon style on the art paintings n last I checked he was at $4k value on the house list. Lopez is gaining a lead, I'll let the dust settle a bit more then put his name up once it's clear he's the new King.
Don't be so sure. Nobody knows how many (or how few) commit gates that Lopez has.
Brit seemed more secure, until I found what may be the funniest solution of all time. If that's the intended solution, I hail Brit as a genius.
I may have a bit more cash coming my way. My alt nearly cracked Brit's place, I think.
Lopez, who's at the top atm, seems to just be dog-commit for most of the way.
Wow. I appear to have already gotten a "disconnect scout", where a 2k scout makes progress, then disconnects so that their tape shows them suiciding on the doormat.

Um... don't listen to him guys. He's clearly being a lying lier who lies.
Also, it's a house, not a castle.
Oh, what a humble king, who does not want to be entitled and prefers a house over a castle. Still, calling me a liar is an accusation I can not tolerate. I will defend my honor on the battle grounds!
I take it back! Don't take my art yet!
LiteS wrote:Being on top is just not the same since the days of JWG and $50 bounties.
yeah, JWG used to attack anyone who got enough money to threaten him. that and his house was crazy good. He had almost a year head start on a lot of us. I'm sure someone else will emerge like him after all these battles. Who knows, could be you. guess we'll see...
I was around before even Josh, and I had my day back in v8, being the first player to break $100k since the broken days of v5. Back then it was an electronics arms race between Zed and me; it's still puzzling how neither of us came up with a clock. I guess it wasn't really necessary; in the days of 8 tools max, with wire cutters not cutting floors, having a step counter and a line of floors was all we really needed.
Anyways, guys, I'd rather not be entitled "King". I'm more of an "Art Collector", with my goal not being to be on top, but to have every painting (except the William Bebe ones. Seriously, what the fuck Will?)!

No problem. It was my mistake. The house was not tested at all so I didn't catch all bugs yet and you found one
I saw that Storm and you are going to rob LiteS and I wanted my stuff back so I decided to go for it. You basically didn't see anything from the internals of the house so I won't expose it yet if that's ok. I can post the tape later today. Blip feel free to post robbery if you have it.
Welcome our new king Blip!
EDIT: I see you don't want to expose your name. Ok. So we won't expose the tapes and I will fix my house
I didn't record the robbery because I was convinced I would fail.
What was the bug I found? Was the path I took through those last few powered doors unintended?
Also, the current painting count is 61. That's a lot of art. It'll probably give me away at some point. But, MMaster, I say we wait, hide the tapes, and watch the new fight for the #1 spot from the sidelines for a while.
For those of you who want the tapes, here's a little something to whet your appetite:
Blip wrote:tigerbalm immunity wrote:congrats, blip! courage is rewarded! what is your name? (i'm sure it's here somewhere...)
You think I'll tell you? I'm trying to hide for a bit and keep my art safe! Because frankly, I didn't think I'd pull this off, and would finally get to get rid of a surprisingly rich house that has way too many psychological traps. Now I have over 50 paintings behind those traps!
lol, Blip, don't run!? come back...
My house is still up there, with an expanded set of paintings. Its up to you guys to find it.
congrats, blip! courage is rewarded! what is your name? (i'm sure it's here somewhere...)

So now that I've stopped shaking, done some upgrades, and expanded the art collection, I'll explain the robbery:
I had been stuck in the low-first-page range and high-second-page range for a couple weeks now, and decided to either go out with a bang or do something great. I was going to spend all my cash on tools to crack the top house in one go.
Here was my reasoning: David Michael Scott didn't have enough cash until he robbed Snyder to majorly change his house. And even when he got the cash, why change the door trap that had served him so well? I guessed that he had kept the trap, and came loaded with crowbars, plus enough a bunch of wire cutters to reach it. My biggest worry was running out of cutters; 15 seemed like too few. I made it through with only 2 to spare, assuming that the upper path would lead me to the door trap as it did in his previous house. Also, it seemed logical to me to put the entrance to the trap in the center, not off to the side.
I had seen previously that his vault was near the corner... but which corner? I assumed that he had moved it, so I decided to try going up first. If I planned everything out right, I should have had enough crowbars to try going down too. On my way, I found what seemed to be a functional path that required no crowbars to pass by the doors. I followed it, and boom, vault.
I can't believe that I made it, on a 1-in-4 chance (choosing the top path for the floors, and the top corner for the vault). That was the first time I've pulled a no-scout robbery of that magnitude. And it seemed like a great house, MMaster. I wish I had tried for the proper solution, but I would rather have your art and not chance death.
HOLYFUCKIROBBEDMMASTER!
I spent all my cash on crowbars on a wild guess that he had kept the cat maze from his previous house (still in the same life, right)...
And then I guessed at a corner vault. I followed some buttons and HOLYSHITITSTHEVAULT!
I am shaking as I write this. It's time to burn some cash and hide for a bit.
I guess I have a new target then! It's too bad that my scouts of Snyder went to waste, though. Btw, was his vault in the top right or bottom center?
I hope you put your vengeful quest against LiteS off a bit so that I can give it a shot. I might not have as many lofty ideas about his downfall as you do, but I very much would like that art he has.
