Are you absolutely sure about that story? ;-P I am pretty sure Kane used my broken house for dual account transfer..

I have access to a second account (in fact I even inherited of a third one but I never used it yet) and I already used it to play with different kind of exploits.
But when I do it, I prefer to use a broken house or an ongoing transfer rather than a "true" house.

Probably not for a long time though.

I assume you are Toby Kevin Chandler then...

Edit: or not... since you deleted your post...

Indeed.
I have the house with the Eiffel Tower. When I wrote the post Mr. Chandler was editing his house.

Here we are !

I stopped playing for a while, waiting for the correction of the most obvious security leak (property edition, corrected in v29).

When I connected again, I was astonished to see that my house was still here. It is a very crude and boring design but obviously it resist quite well to brute force.
Several seasoned players came with up to 60k$ of tools... and the house resisted !

The bounties and the tools of the suicidal robber piled up and my house grew up to 200k$.

10 minutes ago, here came Mr. Robert Kevin Kovacs with more than 100k$ of tools (dual account? robber of Mr Elias who seems to be missing ?). This gentleman started to dig holes in my concrete... and suddenly jumped in a trap ?!?

I do not know why he did it. Maybe the burden of the tools was too heavy and he was exhausted ? Maybe he thought I would do a better use of all these tools?
He had like 10 time the tools to cross the trap.

Ironic joke : after a trap, a wooden door, after the wooden door a safe wink

No, you were close. The vault was in the south-east corner after several trapdoors.

#6 Re: Main Forum » New dual account exploits » 2013-12-31 02:18:14

Yesterday I did some cooperative play with my brother's account.
I broke the top house.
Usually I do not go for the kill when I visit a top house (especially with “unfair” stuff) but its owner was such a painting hoarder that it was an obvious deathwish (sorry for him if it was not the case).
It was a nice house, with a very high complexity (6 bit lock, walking dog / cat, dogs tricks etc.) but very easy to read (I figured out the location of the vault during the first scouting) and not too hard to brute force with tools (I did a complete overkill).
Dual accounting is still very strong. I would strongly advocate to diminish the bounties (should be easy after the steam release) and to bring back the random delay. Unfortunately the information and the security advantage will remain. I do not see how to solve these points.

Then I searched for more powerful exploits and found a real one. I mailed it to Jason.

Well done Josh smile

To lure the dog with torches, you need a doorstop. But you can also use 4 saws and dig in the wood.

@Jason : could you check the videotape of Duane Douglas Garza ($200 bounty) ?
You can clearly see pits behind closed doors.

Personnaly I don't buy the shotgun when I build my starter house. A second pitbull instead is much better: if your house is correctly built (i.e., no easy way to lure away the 2 dogs) you'll need 2 guns and 1 club to get to the wife, instead of the gun+2 clubs. The investment to get the wife is now 2600$ (unreachable for a newcomer) instead of 1600$.

I agree that a dog is better than a gun in a starting house (if your children are alive).

This is my current build :
http://castledraft.com/editor/Y5kcJt

The minimal cost I see to kill the wife is $2200 (2 torches, 2 meats, 1 doorstop and 1 club) i.e. the approximate cost of the house !
I am sure it can still be improved / challenged but it already give an idea of the balance.

Thank you Josh and Arakira for your inputs smile

#11 Re: Main Forum » Doggy death door » 2013-12-28 09:55:02

Maybe the dog already saw you before coming behind this door ?
In this case he does not have to wait one turn and can kill you immediately.

I'm pretty sure I could take out the wife and vault in that house for $1700 and the vault for just $1300.

I was sure you would be the first to find a leak wink

You could even take out the wife + vault for $1500 (Meat + DoorStop + Gun) and the vault for $300 (Meat + DoorStop).

I edited the draft so turning around the dog would be more expensive.
Unfortunately, this house cost now more than $2000. This cost could probably be reduced by stopping the dog with a cat on an electric floor.

With Steams coming, I was wondering what was the cheapest house that :
- protect both your wife and your safe
- could only be forced with a minimal complexity (5 bits seems enough) or more than $2000 of tools.
- have a minimal commitment door (at least $300 to turn back) to earn money from bounties

I came to this horrible little thing :
http://castledraft.com/editor/h8aCgg

Do you see a way to break it with less than $2000? (there is probably a way I did not figured out yet)
Do you see a cheaper concept of such house?

Okay, check out v27, just released.

It allows stuff to be seen around corners, so there's absolutely no pop in as you move around... but, if something's really behind a wall or door, it's invisible.

I am affraid something really behind a closed door is not invisible anymore.
@Jason : I sent you a screenshot.

Edit : In this case and as mentioned by Josh, it was a door behind a door.
If it is only a matter of doors everything is fine smile

#15 Re: Main Forum » Visibility issues and Gamma » 2013-12-15 10:42:24

One door (or one wall) is not reliable. OK.
But are two doors (or two walls) enough to block the vision ?

#17 Re: Main Forum » getting rid of some paintings » 2013-12-08 02:54:24

If your wife is still alive, you can also display your safe next to your door.
You will lose half of your money but you will get rid of all your paintings.

#18 Re: Main Forum » wife not moving » 2013-12-07 22:08:50

When their path to the door is blocked by a human body, the remaining family members do not move anymore.
From a technical point of view, they cannot walk on the body => there is not path to the door => they stay where they are.

Thank-you for the informative reply Joshwithguitar.  Based on your reply about magic dance am I correct in understanding that once an animal sees you it continues to behave like it can see you from that point on even if line of sight is broken?

Yes. Once an animal saw you, it is "activated" and will follow (or avoid you) even if line of sight is broken.

You can already do the loan part : make a deal with a player on the forum and enter his house with some tools and exit.
You can also blackmail somebody via the forum but I do not think it would be a good idea wink

You can bypass a powered door with water by shorting the power supply. I did that about 20 times today. What about $2400 water?

You could also create an other powered door opened when powered smile

This would solve the issue and offer more building options.

I don't have much to show but I feel kind of bad. I just robbed EUBANKS. He had an arrow pointing to his safe. Free money, right? But the whole point was to keep the wife safe and sound.

Well, as it turns out, I robbed someone and the safe had a gun. Normally, I wouldn't waste money on a gun, but with the free gun and $450 (drugged meat + saw) I was able to take the wife's $1900. Sorry, Mrs. Eubanks.

You killed my wife !
I should have replaced the wooden wall by a concrete wall smile

It was just a free money that tried to stay a little longer than the average.

Interesting smile. Do you ever go in and try to solve them without tools after you've had a good look? (I imagine this could be pretty nerve wracking with magic dance houses).

I can see how brute forcing someone's house can set off a spiral of revenge (the reason I focussed Callahan was because he brute forced through one of my previous lives and stole all of my paintings, I was possibly a bit crueller to him than he was to me though).

No : I already have enough issues to solve my own traps without being fried / crippled / mauled because I clicked 3 times on left instead of 2 wink

#25 Re: Main Forum » Thread on current game issues and possible solutions » 2013-08-10 01:35:14

About the "$32,000 kit after I've never seen their value at over $20k" : I think the house display the "resale" value of the tools in the safe (50% of the "buy" value).
=> a player with a $32,000 kit will have a house with only $16k.

PS : In my original post, I inverted "resale" and "buy" but the example was right.
