I still think this violates the idea of " you can always go back" and "death is always your fault" No sir, I dont like it. As If magic dances and unseen poodles were not bad enough, now I have to worry about things setting of clocks that can turn the whole dungeon into an infinite loop of death. Not a fan.

#4 Re: Main Forum » dickman » 2013-11-01 18:27:47

Well what you call clever, I call an exploit. There is no way whatsoever to get through something like this in a self test. All I can think, is that the this is another one hit kill pre robbed setup house, but that still does not explain how things are being triggered without any visible pets. Things like this should most likely be reported, perhaps jason already knows about this? Kinda seems like he would have to at this point. If not please by all means let him know whats going on.

    I saw this trap coming a mile away, but for some reason I just assumed the game would not screw people like this. I thought that no unseen one hit kills were the only real rule of the game. Warnings like seeing dogs and such move off screen are clearly excluded in this assumption.

someone wanna tell me whats going on with dickmans house? seems like complete bullshit to me, a full line of pwrd trap doors that open if you step one foot inside. No visible cats, chihuahuas, ect. I fail to understand how a trap like this works or is legit.

I had literally just changed things around only slightly with the hopes of catching you off guard, when I noticed that your name was no longer on the list, I honestly assumed you had hung yourself in frustration. =b

#7 Re: Main Forum » heres a glitch for you » 2013-10-31 07:15:17

bottom left hand corner of the screen, so i cant see if there is a pet or not. sounds like there most likely is. Not my favorite pit bull movement nuance if that is the case.

Im a little confused though, chasing the player (see diagram) would cause the pitbull to move adjacent to the pit with a dead animal inside (assuming it has one)
not onto it. So Im still not sure why the dog wont go around this corner. It treats the spot above the pit like it contains an entity when it clearly does not.

I wanted that bounty.... why you no die in my house?

So heres a diagram

xSxxxx
x1xxxx
x1xxxx
x1D11
xoxxxx

S = start point
1 = empty space
x = wall
D = pitbull
0 = pit

If a pit bull is ever in this position, or if he moves into said position, he will not move around the corner and chase the player as usual but instead will wait until the player moves next to him to try for a clubbing. Then the pitbull will attack. dog cannot be poisoned around the corner or clubbed, perhaps he can be shot? Either way, this does not seem like intended behavior. Also this was in the bottom left hand corner of the screen in case that could have anything to do with it.

Its voxel at heat even if its not technically voxel =b and you have not heard the last from me on this, I really think we should revisit this idea at a later date, if we had a larger gaming population and you asked them if they wanted more junk, im sure the answer would be "of course we want sofas and junk. why dont we have sofas and junk?" And Im sure many would be willing to pay for it as well. moneys good right?

Just keep the possibility in the back of your mind for now. I respect that your not a cash whore like most of the industry, but theres nothing wrong with putting in some extra work and asking to be paid for it.

#11 Re: Main Forum » My ideas - Make the house a home » 2013-10-30 12:54:33

I beg you to reconsider! I see your point here, but there is still no great reason to keep this stuff out. I think you can see that my main problem here is that there is no other game like this, its not as if when I get bored here I can just look for that other mmorpg rogelike housedefense sim, that has furniture in it. This game is like the ideal form of voxel pvp gameplay. No other voxel game has hit on anything like it. I just dont understand why you want to take out the decorative elements of those games.

    Anyways, there is another reason to consider this. I think all great games should offer periodic updates to keep their player base interested, and to help lure new ones in. It would be super easy to periodically  release new decorations, and as you mentioned, some people would even be willing to pay for them (LIKE ME! TAKE MY MONEY AND GIVE ME STUPID CRAP!) You could always just offer this stuff for free though, as new content is a sound strategy for generating new interest in a previously released title. Especially for mmorpgs.

On the other hand, I really like the freedom players have to scorch another player's earth with repeated visits (and a tape list filled with one name that clearly is asking for revenge).  And the threat of that, after the first breach, makes a homeowner all that more nervous.  I don't want to change the game in a way that is "kinder" to the homeowner.  Also, I want to allow quick, back and forth revenge cycles, etc.

Its funny you say that, because this is the 2nd time today that Ive gotten my revenge on an account thats most likely being boosted. Their response both times? completely take themselves out of the neighborhood list by staying in build mode while having their dummy account feed them money for hours on end. Any scorched earth policy i have is checked by this combination of exploits. So that police cool down might be a good idea, if there is no other way to check such an exploit.

House furnishings are not redundant! Folks are offering up complex suggestions here, all I want is a few house plants, a gold fish, a sofa. Stupid crap that does nothing other then give me something to work for. As I stated before, a nice looking home with a pleasing entrance will entice more robbers deeper into its labyrinth. "More flies with honey", you know?

#14 Re: Main Forum » died while idle. » 2013-10-29 08:24:12

does it save my changes if i get kicked from edit mode? Or do they revert?

#15 Re: Main Forum » died while idle. » 2013-10-29 07:41:34

Yea I realize its there for good reason, but 5 min is way too soon. Are there any other times where going idle can kill me? A warning was needed thats all, this was a really shitty way to end my day. I was making notes at the time, stressing over how I was not to fall for a certain trap, then I look up and Im dead.

where was my warning for this? I was working on my map, might have been idle for less then 5 min in someones base, and I died due to inactivity. It would really be nice if I could get a warning about something like this, I had the most money by far, and I was just poking around in someones base, he had 5$ on him. Rogue-likes are cool, and I understand the joy of getting screwed over, but to die from that with no warning, is just bullshit....

keep trying though, this will pop up alot, and its better to find a fix rather then having to try to admin it.

very nice. This seems like it could be a very elegant and simple solution to a very big problem. Also how about looking into adding a cooldown time before you can successfully rob someone again, tie it to the the actual account and not just the players life and this would stop or at least slow folks boosting efforts. Also it seems kinda silly that you can rob a house and just run right back in looking for the wife or what have you. Someone mentioned a notice "the police are still here you cant rob now" something like that should pop when you try to rob a house or account that you have just robbed. Other people should still get access but the actual robber has a cooldown period to wait out.

that right there! I did not even think of that! It would be a huge carrot on the end of that stick If I was saving up for some nice useless high end furnishings to go in my home.

    Perhaps your not aware of the concept of in game achievements.(sarcasm of course =b) The dumbest idea in history, but good god does it work to keep people playing. Ive always set goals for myself outside of the main goal in a game. Why? because its fun! You are currently leaving very little room for this kinda of game-play,( right now its just amass money, and build a death trap) and I think that's a real shame. I can tell you right now the goal of upgrading my crappy furniture to a nice expensive and useless leather set would keep me playing for a looong time. These things also offer bragging rights. another important addition to a game that really has no end.

#20 Re: Main Forum » My ideas - Make the house a home » 2013-10-28 17:44:34

sorry hurry up response here, have not read all of your post yet, but the difficulty is what drew people to the game. Its a rogue-like, period. Thats what makes it great, and there is nothing wrong with that aspect of the game. Anyone who plays rogue likes knows what they are getting into, none of that needs fixing, its a feature of this type of game, also did you see my previous edit about minecraft and dirt houses? I think that really sums up my main point here. A pretty house lures people in, an ugly one drives them away. Simple human nature, If i can make my house look unique, it will see more traffic.

    Im not trying to insult your game when i call it ugly. Its beta after all, its just that I came here assuming that common sense stuff like furnishings in a game where you build a house for your family, were already in the works.
    You keep going on about other game-play mechanics and things that need fixing, To me the game in its current state is awesome. The only 2 issues that I care at all about are 1 furnishings, and 2 exploits. As far as im concerned this game is ready for steam release tomorrow if you could take care of these big problems.

    The games great as is, but like I said, it completely lacks end game content. For me winning would be collecting all the paintings(or at least all the paintings i like) and making my house look pretty but still be very lethal. currently you only give me one of those options, and that's just not enough.

#21 Re: Main Forum » My ideas - Make the house a home » 2013-10-28 17:32:26

I dont mean that decorations would be for fooling people into traps, Im more saying that they would serve to get people into your home. If your home looks nice it deserves a look. If someone pokes their head in your front door and likes what they see, there is a good chance that they will look around. Right now, I never like what I see. Its just the same ugly death trap hallway every time. Spruce that crap up a little, and I know people will look around a little more, its just human nature.

    Using minecraft as an example again, you-"hey come check out my dirt house!" me-"no, go to hell", perhaps if you had said " hey come check out my giant water temple dedicated to the god of the moon" pehaps I would have said "ok sounds good", thus giving you a chance to trap me in your awesome temple home.

    Also I fail to see how this could complicate the game play mechanics. Just treat a sofa like any other wall, have it block line of sight, problem solved. Implementing this could be as simple as a template swap, so Im really not seeing the complications this would cause. In a game about home design, complete lack of furnishings just makes the game seem unfinished.  I think it strongly condradicts the games idea to make a home that's not a home in anyway. I have a wife, I have kids, they need a home to grow up in, not a cardboard box filled with death traps.

#22 Re: Main Forum » exploits » 2013-10-28 17:17:32

Yes its limited to once an hour, but when they do it, they stay on for hours boosting every hour on the hour. I had one booster all timed out yesterday, and I would just keep checking back every hour. He was boosting at about the 45 mark(4:45 ect) of the hour, every hour within 5-10 min A house would come up and I would try to beat whoever it was to their booster house. I did this for like 7 hours yesterday, and it happened like clock work. I also found paintings in empty homes that had no business being there. Paintings that I saw in some of the top homes earlier in the day. Proof positive that the guy on the top of the list was boosting, and robbing himself to support other robberies. All with out endangering his own home.

    You should follow up with your idea to change the way new houses are presented on the list. Also just extending the chills for 2 hours would cut down their potential gain through boosting substantially. and to be honest, I think an hour is too soon for the chills to wear off anyways. I understand with a small player base its kinda necessary but for steam release this should prlly be extended.

on another note, Ive watched both of the top tier homes more then double their money today, with out seeing the player base to back up that kind of gain.

#23 Re: Main Forum » My ideas - Make the house a home » 2013-10-28 16:56:23

Your killing me here, I understand your point, but the game is ugly at best, butt ugly. Homes are just cardboard boxes filled with dogs. You say that decoration adds no gameplay elements, I strongly disagree. If I had sofas, plants and other decorations, I would use them to make a visually appealing entrance to try and lure people in. Right now when I enter a home, I see pitbulls waiting for me at the main door, and concrete or boxhallways. If there is little money in their vault, I turn and walk right out. As long as you leave the tile set as bare-boned as it is I dont see that changing.

     If however you gave people some decorative elements to play with, Im confident that they would use these to build more appealing homes, with the hopes of luring people past the pretty crap, and into the deadly portion of the house. Currently its really easy to tell where your safe path ends and where the traps begin. With decorations, you can ease that transition until they unwittingly wander past my indoor garden, and stumble upon my traps. No one wants to wander into a death trap. Take minecraft for example, people don't just build death traps, they build them into their pretty homes, thus luring the foolish inside.

    So I put to you that decorations add a major element to game-play, no redundancy at all. They help you do hide your true intentions, and could help you to make areas look safer then they actually are. Also this seems like a really simple thing to implement, why are you so against it? It would not hurt the game-play one bit, only add to it. Chairs and sofas, ect, could just be treated like any other solid tile, so there would not be any programing or game-play problem to tackle should you choose to implement that.

    I really love this game, but its far too bare-boned for my taste. If the painting system was not in place (I love this btw, but need to be able to auction off my own paintings) to give me something to work for, I flat out would not play this. I think people can fall in quick love with this game, but when they see that there really is no end game, and very limited ways to express yourself im pretty sure they wind up losing interest quickly.  This has already happened in the past, this game seemed to have a large population earlier in the year, but most of them have left, and this may be part of the reason why. Perhaps you should try and poll your current player base and see what they think?

#24 Re: Main Forum » My ideas - Make the house a home » 2013-10-28 16:04:23

bumping this as it seems to be quickly falling down the list in favor of exploit reports. An exploit free game is important, but we really need some more meat on the bones in the way of house designs. I would kill for just a few house plants to dress up my entrance.

I think I've just been dual account robbed, although I'm not completely certain.

A person came in with a starter cash worth of tools and scouted around my house; with 20 meat they managed to get all the way to the vault. Then, rather than taking the money, they suicided and left behind a $500 bounty.

I thought they were just being kind at first, but it looks like almost instantly after that another robber comes in and picks the exact correct path through the house and takes the money including the bounty and what was left of the $2000 of tools. This second robber seems to have been playing for a while and had a house set up.

Either way I probably would have been robbed, although it seems they got more money by leaving the first account's bounty and tools without wasting much money on tools on their main account. They could also be more reckless on their secondary account without facing much consequence.

also this, there have been numerous vhs feeds showing people seem to clearly suicide in my house. Then someone else shows up, wastes no time and robs me for that bounty money. Ive also watched wagner for about 2 days now, and he seems to be clearly exploiting.
