i still browse the forum every now and then, i played a little bit on terminal heist but this game can be pretty time consuming and i don't have that much time anymore.

i still miss the game, it's one of the most clever game i've ever played, and one of the most intense.

yes yes yes, great work cullman, i'm still busy with work, but i hope i can make an house soon big_smile
can't wait to see the game back to the old glories big_smile

#3 Re: Main Forum » I tried to get back into it. » 2017-01-30 14:22:25

this kind of play style is a consequence of the low population, not the reason why.

The game is based on innovation, by sharing designs after death we learned a lot, but you always had to adapt, modify, otherwise your house wouldn't have passed the night.

Problem is... learning curve, really steep. It took me 1 week to get pass the 24h mark for the first time. to play this game you need a lot of patience, and over time if you don't have an influx of newcomers, the player base inevitably shrinks.

If no more than 2-3 peoples are playing the game seriously there is no chance for newcomers to learn the game being the only target around, and they resolve in using well known trap.

The constant flow of ideas kept peoples playing, and that is when a great game became an incredible game.

I found out about the game last year and was about to buy it since it seemed really cool. However, then I read the reviews and it turns out there are almost no players. I looked trough YouTube to see gameplay and there were no videos from the last year (or maybe one or two I don't remember). So, yeah, this idiotic model is what made me (and probably many others) not buy the game.

one of our fellow neighbors is working on a space themed remake of the game, check it out

yes, i'd like to see it, there's lack of good footage of the game, we should have recorded more.

edit: also, any kind of videos may rise interest for the game, bringing new players in!

#13 Re: Main Forum » The King is Dead » 2015-11-01 17:10:13

wow wow,  i thought it would have last forever with such small community.

did you smashd everything from the very first step or you've found an alternative solution?

hi, welcome back.

the player base shrunk over time, but there's still peoples playing. (and every now and than some old timer shows up just like you did)
made my last house a couple of months ago, no hack going around back then, cannot be sure about nowadays.

i always keep an eye on the forum and soon or later i'll be back with another project.

The dance floor on the map transfers a repeating cycle, which is why if you cut the dance floor, the cat door opens.

if the dance floor transfer the cycle, wouldn't it be receiving power at every step just like the door? thus being always on?

i still have to test it, but would the grid be "on" with this design?
http://castledraft.com/editor/1wc5Z1

i think the dance floor is linked to another paradox, that affects the door circuit if cut

#17 Re: Main Forum » how does it work? » 2015-10-21 08:32:01

still... i can't understand how the power reaches the two sides of the door.
it would take something like that (ignore positioning)

http://castledraft.com/editor/Yfis3P

but i haven't found any connection between upper and lower part in JWG design, they seem completely independent.
also, you can't use the dancing grids as a connection, otherwise they'll be permanently lighted up (if i've got the principle right)
so the connection should be somewhere behind the door.

or... is it possible to break the circuit into two separate pieces to achieve the same result?

#18 Re: Main Forum » Map hacks » 2015-10-18 15:38:37

sorry to hear that, using hacks in a game like that is ridiculous.

can we report hackers to jason? can he blocks their accounts if there's proof of hacking?

hi guys, i was looking at Hanson's map and there's something i cannot figure out (actually there's a lot of stuff i cannot figure out)

http://castledraft.com/editor/WXKPeA

when you enter the chihuahua makes sure you cannot move up or down, if you do, the door opens and the cat runs away.

how is that possible? if the door gets power from both directions, how does the dog cuts the power by clicking a single button?

disconnect up and the doors still gets powered from below, and vice versa.

it's possible that i miss something in the design (i've posted only stuff you can see from the entrance) but the upper part and the lower part seems to share no connection...

if i can help you let me know.
At first this game can be really confusing, build your knowledge and everything will fall in line.
i still have to look really close to understand high level design, even with the full map.

#25 Re: Main Forum » Hard on our small remaining community » 2015-10-01 08:34:59

one of the most important thing is to hide information to the robbers, if they can rule out the approximate location of the vault, they can calculate exactly how much money they need in order to force their way trough.

one common error is to give hint by using different protection style -> route to vault built with concrete and powered doors/pit -> everything else wood and fishy looking doors.

something i've found very useful in my last house (links in the signature if you're interested), is having a multi-way entrance that lead to completely different section of the house. First of all there's no way to know where's the vault, and second, if someone start learning how to pass the right section, you can always move the vault to the other one.
(than the dirty trick would be to disrupt some of the electronic on the path he is following, to make him kill himself while passing a well known trap)

you can learn a lot on robbers behavior by looking closely at the tape.
See how they approach your traps and ask yourself why they do what they do.
