I would also like to ask if the game could handle time-outs and 'error request login failed' errors better without the house being lost completely. In the last couple of weeks I would say I've lost nearly as many houses to time outs and momentary losses of internet connection then I have from actually dying. I can't be the only player with a sketchy internet connection who's been frustrated by loosing houses so easily.
So can I just ask, what does happen to your leftover tools when you successfully rob a house? Do they just disappear out of the game, the same as when you leave a house?
Right, sorry. My bad, must have missed that. And the reasons make sense, I just need to remember and learn from my fatal accident.
I just wanted to post my thoughts on something that happened to me in the game, that didn't seem right to me. I was scouting someone's house that had some dogs chasing you, and you had to pick the right doors to get to the vault. I went in with a few tools, put the dogs to sleep and discovered the correct route to the safe, and robbed it, leaving (I thought) my tools in the safe. I thought, seeing as I had worked out the correct route to the safe, I could then return to the house with no tools, get to the safe and collect my left tools from before. However, I got to the vault with the dogs chasing me to see that the vault was 'busted', so I couldn't rob it, and was at that point cornered by dogs, so had no choice except death. I'm sure in past versions of the game, if you left some tools in a house after robbing it, you could return to collect them, almost as a reward for working out how to solve the house with no tools. I think that when you leave some tools in the house after a successful robbery, these should go into the vault, and you should be able to collect them if you can. Obviously, if you're clever you could build a one time-robbable house, so the robber wouldn't be able to return to collect their left tools, leaving you a little nest-egg to rebuilt the damage from the first robbery.
What do you guys think about this?
Great, thank you. And thanks for replying so quickly.
OK, I'll wait a bit. However, normally when there's an update to download the download page says there is a new version coming, and to wait for it. Maybe this just hasn't happened this time.
Since the game server was down for maintenance in the last 30 minutes or so, when I try to open the game I get a message to download the latest version of the game, but the version of the game on the download page is (I think) the same as the previous version. In any case, when I tried the latest download from the website and log in it still tells me to download the latest version of the game. Is anyone else having this problem?
Here was a copy I made of my map:

A few concrete walls hadn't been installed yet, but all the wiring and traps are in place. And I'd added an extra doggy door in the lower room with the rotary switches, so that if a robber toggled the middle switch it opened the powered door to release the hounds. I do enjoy releasing dogs when a player makes a mistake.
Hey herb, that was my house! Only been playing this game just over a week, this was the first house I was really proud of. Then V12 came out and it didn't work Don't get me wrong, I agree with the the reasoning behind the new animal rules, I was just gutted that my first good, $5k+ house was nerfed. Glad you appreciated my house, got some fun kills with it. Did it have a good kill ratio by the way? I felt like I took out a few robbers, just never counted how many.
Did you crack the house then? Only one person (I think) got to my vault successfully without using any tools and I assumed they just got really lucky, but it could have been you.
Yeah I thought that was something to do with it. In my case I was worried because I was doing a self-test when the server maintenance happened, so my test couldn't save and I had to quit the game, so that could of mucked things up for my game. Really hope this can be fixed without starting again, as I haven't been playing long, and my current house is the first one I've had for any length of time, spent a couple of $k on improvements and was really looking forward to carrying on with.
This is happening to me as well. Logged in after the latest server update about how the wife-money-holding works, it said I had earned $140, but balance was $0. Checked my tapes, no new robberies, $0 balance. Logged out and waited a bit, still no money. Robbed a house for $2, just in case my house had stopped earning, and left for another 20 mins. Logged back in, it said I had earned $140, balance was $0, no new successful robberies so I didn't have my earnings, and I lost the $2 I had in my balance.
