@Crazyace, @Xandals, @Cullman, try to refrain from personal insults.
Stating that I think something is irrational is not a personal insult. This thread is over someone wanting to place a real bounty on someone, albeit to be completed in game, over the same game. I find that irrational. And bordering on illegal.
MMaster wrote:This is only your assumption and you don't have any real proof. You currently see it as an issue and try to make it even bigger issue by stating things like this in the same way as I did when I said that posts like this are killing the game, because when someone opens the forum everything he sees is that everyone cheats by using multiple accounts.
Deep.
Yeah, valid point there. And again, talking of proof, you only have so much of that. Nothing than a person's opposition to your view as proof in most cases. Such assumptions usually will make a trainwreck out of any point a person tries to make, in the end. Which I see has begun.
You know the real ironic side to what I've just done, is that I think there have been 20 or so houses that were probably safe from the rest of you guys due to being low value, that got hit right after I santa'd on the welcome mat.
I neither supported nor condemned it, as you say I have. I did however take up the devil's advocate position because frankly, after many times of saying "I haven't seen anything to support your arguments" in several other threads, nor a clearly stated "how is this really different from a group of players working together" until recently.
Also, in context, I had seen that post before, though in my quirky interpretation of things, I took it to mean that the steps taken (chills, etc) were considered to already address the issue, but no further determination was really made.
But really, remember folks, if you present a point that you know not everyone shares, don't be surprised if you find it becoming argumentative when you lump everyone who doesn't agree with your viewpoint, into the opposing camp simply because they don't share that viewpoint.
No, no paintings. I had two, briefly, about a week ago when I knocked over Young's place. Then died to a self test. I do that a lot. Oh, and found and santa'd 2 stragglers on the list. All purple/hidden again.
Yup, probably did. I really suck at the robbing side for the most part. Almost all my income is from bounties. I'm not counting when I catch a freshly available empty 2k starter as robbing, either. That's more like a free slot machine. The other possibility is that you died in my last real house, though doesn't sound like that's the case. I swear they were like lemmings before I killed myself in it as well.
Finally, some proof. "What more do I need?" That implies you'd previously presented proof that I rejected. Alright, so he does put it in terms of exploiting. Roger that.
So, just to maybe chill things out a bit, I have just finished hitting every house open to me on the list. Enjoy your saws everyone.
I see the level of rabid irrationality is up today.
Well, when you can dig up something from Jason that defines it as cheating, I'll happily change my view on the matter. But I haven't seen anything, and I have looked (since it does seem to be a recurring topic). In the meantime, since this is obviously such a big deal to you, why don't you email Jason directly and see what he has to say on the matter? Seriously. Then if he hasn't effectively CC'd the board, share his words. As far as facts go, yes it's a fact that there's a debate over this issue.
As far as the whole feeling insulted over getting tips on how to build a tough 2k house: that's about as rational as yelling at someone who just offered some help, for offering the help. Which is to say, it's not.
@Xandalis, you are here for this line: "it's only cheating if Jason says it is." It is this attitude that is part of the 'rot' within the game. Until we can all admit this the problem will never be solved.
For the record, I have only been affected by dual account cheating once and moved on from it. I'm more concerned with the attitude by forum members towards dual accounts.
And back to my original post/question here: So those who don't agree with you ARE part of the problem in your eyes. Noted, guess I'll just happily take my place as part of the rot then.
Edit: Also, you clearly haven't moved on from that experience, going by the length of your OP.
I'll also note that while I've used other examples of hot-boxing, my main stance is simple: TCD is Jason's game, he defines what cheating is for the game. If that earns me a spot on the "rot of cheating" list, whatever. I'll go grab a few accounts when I next have RL money.
Oh, one other thing: recall that Jason intended for players to have what boils down to rage-quit moments over this game (regardless of whether you actually storm away from the computer or suck it up and start another house).
So, those of us who don't feel as you do are automatically part of the problem? Just checking here, because that's sure how the OP reads.
I came across this, maybe it'll be helpful in dealing with this problem: http://fluxbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=6917
I was searching for info regarding banning IP ranges.
Whelp. That ended... Once again. This time, I forgot to swap out one particular powered door for a light during upgrade checks. AND I had moved my safe, completely walled off, to prevent my other usual mistake at this stage: hitting the safe while the house is, well, safe.
I bet people spam that filter button just wishing someone would die for them to watch.
Yup. That I do. Also, the hourly wage would be nice to see "back" in the game (though it was gone by the time I'd started). That way, even if a house has gone "abandoned," yet un-robbed while at low value, eventually it'll be a very tempting heist. Would also put much more emphasis on protecting not just your safe, but your wife as well. Or maybe the kids can have a lemonade stand out front to mooch some of a robber's take (from their own home) back into your wallet. (Okay, that one was a little crazy).
If you're looking to get some practice and a bit of "sanboxing" done to learn more of the game, you might want to check out the community server. http://thecastledoctrine.net/forums/vie … hp?id=1005
Different settings in place, higher starting funds, cheaper house objects. Unchanged tool prices, etc. All the details are in the thread. It's pretty quiet right now, but there are a few homes up on the list.
I was tryng to get to a more secure house. This was a house built with $2000. So when two guys come in and drop 5x the value of the house in tools on purpose so another guy can pick them up, that's not really in the spirit of the game either. I am raising my bounty to $150 for a complete razing of the house.
I think the point is that if it was that easy for someone to use your house for wealth transfer... you need to come up with a better design that you can do within your 2k starting budget. Or at least the foundations for the full monty after a few bounty/heists prop your wallet up. It's a learning experience... albeit a painful one at times.
What did he do that's cheating?
Yeah. All things I know I did at one time or another.
Anyone with the skills feel like fucking with these russian spammers in kind?
I'm reporting 'em as I see them. Though that freaking 60 second wait between reports is annoying. I hope they just ban that whole IP range. Sucks for any legitimate users, but screw 'em. Let 'em prove they're not a spammer.
Well, based on my tapes, usually this current design turns most of you away at the door as soon as you realize there's only one non-commit path, and it ain't to the vault. One or two were definitely 2k tool scouts, though one of those was definitely newer: drugged a dog in the middle of an intersection back to the door. Then tried to leave. Dog had a wake&bakebite.
So anyone seeing some really noobish tapes in the past day or so? Like people transfixed by a layer of cat/pit/dog barriers for the wife? And then walking into the meat grinder to their death?
I swear, it's every time I build this trap I die to it. I put so much time and effort into building it and it almost always kills me. I have been able to get past it once, but that was with pure luck.
Yeah, I have a tendency to forget all the little things that have to be done, in order to get safe access to my vault... My homes are usually more deadly to me than to other robbers... Except this round. *crosses fingers*
