Have any of you ran into this idea of solving a house but then intentionally not taking the safe? You can then come back time and time again with a backpack full of supplies only to "stock" up the house with more and more loot for you to sell when you actually want to solve the house? Its an easy way to make ALOT of money and I just saw a guy/girl do it to my house 7-8 times (4 guns, 2 ladders in Backpack each time) to pump up my house to 10k and then rob it for real. (I do have footage saved of this if anyone would want to see it)
I am not totally sure if I would consider this "cheating" but I do definitely think its a little overpowered.
What do you all think?
I would love to submit some art for this game!
I often go through many low priced houses, sometimes I'll search in the name bar for a common combination of letters like "el" then completely wipe almost everyone in that list down to $0.
I think a lot of other people do this, so when someone does a page or so of houses they will all regenerate at the same rate and all end up with exactly the same amount of money.I think this is what is happening here.
This is definitely the best explanation I have seen so far. Thanks Color for the idea, I think you are right.
I thought about the paychecks but there were houses popping up again and again. At first there was only like one page and even after I beat about 5 more kept popping up. If they were people who were dead they wouldn't keep popping up so fast, the paychecks would take atleast a day to reach $300.
I just went back and checked again (now an hour later) and the same thing is happening. The only real explanation besides a glitch/hacker is that SO many people stopped playing the game and now all their rooms are popping up. But it seems out of the ordinary, each house has a safe that is PRETTY close to the entrance and someone has used a saw to access it. I have been playing this game since pretty close to its first release and i haven't seen a weird pattern like this before.
So I dont know exactly what is going on but there is something strange happening in Castle Doctrine right now. I have a couple guesses as to what it is and think that I might know, but as of right now there are a BUNCH of houses up with $332 or $336 and around 60-100 tried and around 10-20 killed for the stats. They are all houses in a broken state but they aren't dangerous. EVERYBODY on the first page seems to have gone up from about $5000 as the 1st player to upwards of $18,000 in a matter of minutes. I was able to make about 5k in about 5 minutes. Here are my scenarios on how to explain it:
1) Either alot of people have stopped playing the game and left their houses ? (but the exact same dollar amounts are too weirdly the same for this)
2) Someone has broken into the server and posted all these houses? (seems unlikely or Jason would know probably right away)
3) Jason has started putting up houses like this in the lower amounts (i.e. $300) to give some other people ways to make money? (Besides casing a 5k+ House, or looking for an $2000 0/0 House)
4) I am crazy and all of a sudden a god
Here are some pictures.
Having just bought this game, and knowing nothing about it, or how the trap systems work, I'm finding the Perma-Death during the testing phase of my house really frustrating. It would seem to make more sense if when I died the game just returned me to editor mode so I could tweak my design.
Any thoughts? Am I just being a baby?
A quick tip George. No matter how far you get in your house or if you see yourself coming close to death, if you walk back to the entrance and leave you are not charged for anything you have put down in your house. This way you can make changes and not be charged for them. I know that doesn't totally solve your house-safeing-death problem but its just something to know. When I first started this was a huge problem for me. Now I know some tips to help avoid it, SOMETIMES. Put chihuahuas instead of pitbulls for testing and once you know the in's and out's of your house, go back to the entrance (to avoid being charged) and then change them to pitbulls.
WOW this is great! Thanks so much for sharing this tool and your house idea. much appreciated!
Yeah, as much as I love this game, it is becoming a problem that 75% of houses are now just bit-lock combos with 9 thick walls. It's no fun, completely unoriginal and the time it would take to actually play out every combo is maddening, and not possible for most of us. Its not Jason's fault for everyone figuring out how to do this so fast; and once you get more than 5k its really hard to keep it for more than 5 minutes and bit-locks seem like the best possible way, so I kind of understand the want to make bit-lock houses. But on the other hand I am finding myself playing the game less and less each day because of the repetitive bit-lock grind that it has become.
Well I figured that if its not the switch I'm on, then yes, it is dogs behind the walls, but there is no spaces above or below to try and walk? So there is no way that this house has a predetermined "walking route" that has to be followed to get through without turning on the electric floor. Plus there is no way to get by the electric trap doors without having them power on the electric floor right? You cant stand right next to the electric trap doors without standing on the electric floor and if the electric trap doors are activated so you can pass them wouldn't you be standing on a active electric floor? Am I ight or am I still missing something? (if I am missing it still, I am even more intrigued and the beauty and learning curve that this game explores, it truly is something that can be utterly frustrating but extremely rewarding....love it) And thanks for the feedback and responses on the forums Jason, much appreciated.
So I know that alot of us, me included, have been wondering about certain houses and cheaters and how to figure it out. Its frustrating (Jason already confirmed this would be fixed wtih v6) that sometimes when your house is robbed you have to prove its safe again before being able to see the person who robbed you on tape, but then you die while doing this, losing your security tapes forever. So i was hoping we could maybe have a topic that we could post pics of houses we think that are unsolvable or other things and maybe someone could explain or we could have a discussion about to help us all understand?
I know I have run into some houses that I think are impossible to get through and it might be cool to be able to discuss this on the forums?
And another question FOR JASON, I know that people can cheat when breaking into houses but is it possible for people to cheat while they are "safeing" their own house and in turn submit a house to the server that is impossible?
Here is an example of a house that possibly seems impossible to get through?
This is right at the beginning and hitting the switch that I am on turns on the electric floor making it impossible to pass. I dont think it is a house that has successfully been robbed either and was just left in an unsolvable state. Maybe I am just not seeing something though? Could be. I know when I first started I didn't get a lot of the setups/bit locks in this game and slowly I have understood more and more, but this one really does seem impossible?
SUPERTHANKS Color!
I want to make a game where you stare at your dead body for 5 minutes.
You have succeeded sir. ![]()
This may be a dumb question but could someone post on how to edit these settings? (i.e. Program? What to type? etc?)
Thanks!
The visibility shroud is definitely one thing that I think I have seen multiple people cheat with. The only problem right now with reporting people is that if I die and lose my house, I lose my tapes and lose the ability to send in my security tapes and/or player name for reporting. Not sure if there will maybe be a way to save or "mark" certain security tapes to save on your account? Maybe even just to be viewed offline?
no prob buddy!
i literally just sat at my computer staring at my dead pixel body for like 5 minutes.
Here is a custom made Castle Doctrine Template that you can use to help you plan out your house (or case someone else's house).
Enjoy!

WOW! Nice job on this!
I have done that atleast 3-5 times myself. Once I made a 30k steal on a house I had been casing all night. I was SO stoked, went back to my house and spent 2 hours building a 30k maze. I tried out the house only to find out at the end I left ONE pitbull outside a door which led to my death as well as my face slapping my forehead. Now before I finish my house I have chihuahuas in the place of pit bulls so that just in case I leave one out I dont die. ![]()
Thanks so much for this! Sorry that I sent you a couple emails back to back when the game first dropped. I was just playing the game NONSTOP and needed some questions answered!!
But most of my questions have been answered now with testing and testing of the game on my end.
