So i entered a house, above my character was the wife, behind a pane of glass, as i continued on further she disappeared into the house somewhere. As i made my way past the glass i noticed a door, to the left and a long hallway, one of which i assumed the wife would be coming down eventually. So i did the ol' two step dance, stepping back and forth for around 2 minutes to give the wife time to get to me, however she never did. I assumed she must have had a helluva maze to run through to the exit. So i entered the door, BAM! instantly plastered by the wife, who was conveniently waiting behind the door with a shotgun with the family. I assume the house was intentionally broken as to allow the wife to always shoot you, essentially a "one time" house, no longer able to be played after its initial vault had been secured, or maybe not, maybe she is used intentionally to kill players similar to the doggie door we had in alpha(we didnt have bricks opening doors).
I assume he must have killed a dog or a child in a specific way to have the hallway blocked, but either way, i felt quite cheated out of my death, kind of sad really.
Either way, watch out for it, or allow the wife to walk over bodies to exit, which i thought we had fixed.

The first part of my base is nearly identical to that guy's.
Btw, op. The family can't share the same tile to stand on. The child blocks the wife so no matter what she has to stand in front of the door.

Yeah, it wasn't a broken house or dead bodies or anything. The kid was simply blocking the wife's path, and since the KID hadn't seen you yet he wouldn't move. Very clever design! I also thought it was a nice touch to hide the shotgun, so it is even more of a surprise when you open the door.

yes ive figured it out myself, after making the post i went on experimenting trying to recreate it, to which i did successfully, which i might add, i dislike the idea, simply because it just doesnt make sense, but its meta gaming and it works, and i will use it as everyone else does, unfortunately.

I already am seeing people use this tactic. A brick and pistol breaks this strategy.

That was probably me, or somebody with the same design http://castledraft.com/editor/9l6F4V . Sorry you felt cheated, but I didn't realize this was something that something that needed fixing.
The wiki says "If a family member sees the robber they will attempt to escape to the welcome mat. To do this they will take the shortest unobstructed path, though they can still be blocked by the robber or another family member (alive or dead) which will stop them from moving." So I assumed that the characters were meant to interact that way.
A possible fix could be having an spooked family member alerting others if they pass, but that could lead to other meta-game strategies involving a chain of family members.
Or you could have them run past, but I that would also not make sense (a mother abandoning her children and running for the exit?)

The moral of the story is: If you see something that can kill you, and then lose track of it, don't open any doors they could be behind. The family can't have any structures blocking their way, so there will ALWAYS be a hallway leading to them.

hallways leading to them, with family members holding them back, filled with 20k dollars worth of pitbulls, yes quite unobstructed i must say.

Yeah, this seems like a problem. Maybe have the family member and animal swap spaces if the animal is/was out of your sight range? May open up new strategies/problems but would at least fix this one.
