Re: Died self testing 50k home...

I've never played another game that made me feel quite like that.

Ever.

What you are building is dangerous.

Re: Died self testing 50k home...

I thought I knew that house, I had self tested it a hundred times before, it made me feel familiar with it and I became arrogant and started going through the tests too fast... that's where she got me.

Hahaha, oh man I know what you are going through.

I usually have to do a 0.5 second double take, I go "Tch..." grin, and shake my head, and an inner voice comes forward and says, "So that's it.  It's over?  It's really over."  Then I accept my fate and walk into the dog.

Then I laugh at myself, and I do some clubbing runs to even my feelings out smile

Death  --> Observation --> Knowledge --> Power  --> Application --> Testing --> Skill
Seriousness --> Caution --> Deliberation --> Clearer Thinking --> More Success --> Less Frustration
Lack of Attachment to Results --> Lighthearted Play --> Respect for Enemies --> No Anger After Failures --> Faster Skill Building

I just think " I'm an idiot, how i didn't notice that trap? Good job, you die in a 1100 house having your house already set up. You deserve it, nex time bring a drug meat, you idiot"

Re: Died self testing 50k home...

Made a successful raid on a home with 17k in it, rebuilt part of the basic skeleton for my new home, collected about 5k more in bounties, went to expand the skeleton in one more section and then died again of self testing because I was in a rush and forgot to place some doors. All of that between opening this topic and posting this reply...

I don't want to rage quit this game, but it is making me lose my patience. And the worst part is this carefulness paradox: I know I have to be careful in order not to die so easily and yet I don't want to bother being careful because I know I'm going to die either way.

Re: Died self testing 50k home...

Every time i die i make a new rule eg:

CASTLE DOCTRINE: THE RULES OF SELF PRESERVATION
- NEVER hold movement buttons down, always move one step at a time
- ALWAYS pause after opening a door
- ALWAYS remove ALL lethality when testing a house (amendment: including fucking pits)
- ALWAYS fully complete a testing run before introducing lethality for final run
- IF I'm feeling impatient or bothered... walk away
- ALWAYS do a full non-lethal test after changing any wiring
- ALWAYS take your time and be methodical
- IF in doubt, walk out

This is a new one,

- Actually follow your own fucking rules...

On the first rule, There was a time when I had my house setup to perform a bit of a jig at the beginning, then if the jig was performed correctly, a dog would be right next to me. The only thing left to do was hold down up and cross my fingers, charging full speed down a hallway hoping I would make it past all the traps. Most of the time I made it through.

Not obeying the amendment to third one has killed me many times during "non-lethal test runs" in my more expensive houses. My new rule for that one is "If there are open pits nearby in any house, turn on Move Confirmation. No Exceptions."

The little button by the "suicide" button turns on move confirmation. It's a lifesaver.
