Potentially missing painting

Alright, I just spent all of today searching through every house, including every inactive house below $2000. Yes, Every one of them. What I found was only one low value house has paintings, and /nobody/ has "Portrait of a Raindrop" by Rod Humble.

I haven't seen this picture anywhere in all the days I've played since launch, is it missing?

Re: Potentially missing painting

Just asking, how do you make a painting? or who creates the paintings?

There are a set number of paintings in the game, they can be purchased at auctions after returning to your house, or stolen from other player's vaults.

Re: Potentially missing painting

It could easily be in an occupied house....

I think I actually saw that a few days ago, the house was likely occupied like jere said when you were going through the list.

Re: Potentially missing painting

It's been over two weeks and I still have seen no sign of this painting. Anyone seen it?

Yes, it is lost!

No house has it.  There may be others as well...  hmmm....

I'll have to look into the reason for this.

Maybe they are sealed deep within the vault of a secret Nazi bunker house, that now exists hidden, beyond the confines of the Leaderboards, along with the Holy Grail, the Ark of the Covenant, and the Spear of Longinus.  When I think of all the art the server lost in that God forsaken war...

Re: Potentially missing painting

Okay, I just put them up for auction again, and also discovered the bug.

If you rob a house and steal a painting, but cannot return to your own house immediately after (blocked by a robber in your own house), the painting that you stole is held in a kind of limbo (so that the robber can't steal it out from underneath you before you even return home with it).

If you die, the paintings in your gallery are returned to the auction house.... but I forgot to do this for any paintings that might be held in this limbo state.

So, if you steal a painting, can't return home right away, go out robbing again, and then die out there before ever returning home with the painting, the painting gets lost!

Fixing this now.

Ah, an interesting bug, thank you for fixing it!

And they called me mad for searching high and low for a single work of art!

Re: Potentially missing painting

Fixed on the server.

So... there's still a lingering issue, but it's not really a bug.

If you steal a painting, but can't return home because your house is being robbed, and then go back to the main menu screen and quit the game forever (and never return home, ever again), the painting will be held in your limbo bin forever.

So far, this hasn't been an issue...

Re: Potentially missing painting

Perhaps you can make the painting immediately appear in the robber's house after a successful robbery? Except for the ongoing robbery of course. That way, even if he ragequits for whatever reason, the painting will still be robbable?

Such cool paintings!  Thank you for bringing these back from the abyss and into play.
