A simple puzzle that isn't working...

Hi,

Here's a very simple puzzle that isn't working for me:

But, here's the thing... When I test each component alone (e.g., the electric door puzzle) they work. But, when assembled into a two-part puzzle like this, they don't.

Can anyone tell what's going on?

What's meant to be happening?

Remember that steel walls conduct electricity, and so do trap doors.
