$332 & $336 Houses?!?

So I dont know exactly what is going on but there is something strange happening in Castle Doctrine right now. I have a couple guesses as to what it is and think that I might know, but as of right now there are a BUNCH of houses up with $332 or $336 and around 60-100 tried and around 10-20 killed for the stats. They are all houses in a broken state but they aren't dangerous. EVERYBODY on the first page seems to have gone up from about $5000 as the 1st player to upwards of $18,000 in a matter of minutes. I was able to make about 5k in about 5 minutes. Here are my scenarios on how to explain it:

1) Either alot of people have stopped playing the game and left their houses ? (but the exact same dollar amounts are too weirdly the same for this)
2) Someone has broken into the server and posted all these houses? (seems unlikely or Jason would know probably right away)
3) Jason has started putting up houses like this in the lower amounts (i.e. $300) to give some other people ways to make money? (Besides casing a 5k+ House, or looking for an $2000  0/0 House)
4) I am crazy and all of a sudden a god

Here are some pictures.

5) these are people who've stopped playing the game but are still getting their paychecks. The paychecks all come through at the same time, bumping lots of houses up to this kind of money level.

That would be my guess.

The same dollar amounts could come from the fact that when you are offline you earn small amount of money per hour. So if a few active players robbed a bunch of these abandoned houses at about the same time then those houses would gain new money at the same rate.

EDIT: zed typing skills OP smile

Re: $332 & $336 Houses?!?

I thought about the paychecks but there were houses popping up again and again. At first there was only like one page and even after I beat about 5 more kept popping up. If they were people who were dead they wouldn't keep popping up so fast, the paychecks would take atleast a day to reach $300.

I just went back and checked again (now an hour later) and the same thing is happening. The only real explanation besides a glitch/hacker is that SO many people stopped playing the game and now all their rooms are popping up. But it seems out of the ordinary, each house has a safe that is PRETTY close to the entrance and someone has used a saw to access it. I have been playing this game since pretty close to its first release and i haven't seen a weird pattern like this before.

One thing to note is that some of these (Trexler at least, I remember from my bug report) are affected by the bug that when the wife (any family member is affected, but the wife is relevant here - her corpse holds money that can't be picked up) dies without a clear path to the door, her death doesn't get registered properly, so you can only ever steal half of his money - so you'd see his house up there twice as often as you'd expect. Or possibly even more: if the wife's death hasn't properly taken effect, maybe they're still earning double paychecks?

Probably.

Maybe there was some other bug that left houses of dead characters behind at some point in the past?

Re: $332 & $336 Houses?!?

I often go through many low priced houses, sometimes I'll search in the name bar for a common combination of letters like "el" then completely wipe almost everyone in that list down to $0.
I think a lot of other people do this, so when someone does a page or so of houses they will all regenerate at the same rate and all end up with exactly the same amount of money.

I think this is what is happening here.

This is definitely the best explanation I have seen so far. Thanks Color for the idea, I think you are right.

Yep, this all sounds pretty normal to me.

There are certainly a lot of abandoned houses in the game right now, and they do all earn money at the same rate.

Not that it's ideal, mind you!  Just that it's expected behavior for right now.

Just an Fyi for now, but... I haven't actually "earned" any money over the course of the last week or so. It used to tell me that I earned money every time I logged in and now it never tells me.
