One time i found 36k in a broken noob house and another 38k in a house that had nothing at all. I have also found 14k and a painting in a house with no defense, just as it spawns.
It's a trap!

It was me. Died by misstake robbing a guy, so i robbed them back on other account and left my house open. i was mr Hauser. Not sure about first or second name. Thought i'd leave it to the fast guys to pickup instead of begin on a new house.

you can hold off on building after a robbery if you do not return to your house. leave it on the screen that says "you made room in your backpack for $xxxx and x tools" and do not click return to house. it will stay on that screen indefinitely. what's left in/of your house will be live, but the haul from the robbery will be safe.
Watch out for that first step; it's a doozy.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.
Self-testing is torture.
