CastleFortify: Save and share your designs

http://castlefortify.com/

Now you can show off a design, or get your design critqued, or take someone else's design and build off of it. Or you can take the code from a map, and use it in your own apps.

As an example, here's a design I often use: http://castlefortify.com/?id=9a66737

Also, I'm keeping this way open, so if you want to contribute to the development: https://github.com/SethArchambault/CastleFortify

Just made this today, really psyched with how it came out, but definitely looking to see how it can be improved - let me know your thoughts!

Re: CastleFortify: Save and share your designs

How do you even test your house with that?

Very nice idea btw!

Re: CastleFortify: Save and share your designs

Thanks!

Yeah you can't test your house - so it's really only good for sharing, and discussing ideas.  Implement at your own risk!

Re: CastleFortify: Save and share your designs

No no, I meant the system you built. Maybe the cat something to do with it, but I really don't see how it's possible. Maybe I'm just too new.

Ohh ha, I see it now. tongue lol

Yeah do you have to go up on the 15th/16th move? (so the 2nd dog blocks it?)

Re: CastleFortify: Save and share your designs

@Nystical: You got it

I particularly like this setup because you can build it from the start, very quickly for $1340*.  And also because it's pretty much the minimum setup you need to create a impossible-to-solve-without-brute-force setup.  People who value their lives will flee on sight.

* Well it's a little more with the cat, who is there for my personal amusement.  When people enter for the first time, they cat will move on to the same space as the wife, and when they try to kill the wife, it will end up targeting the cat. Which made me shake my fist in rage the first time I encountered that on a map. tongue

Re: CastleFortify: Save and share your designs

I'm going to share the essentials of my current design when it gets beaten. It's the one with the two grids and a pillar before a door at the beginning, if you stumble upon it. Oh and thanks to the guy with the dog cages and that long grid hallway before the safe for your money and pictures. Your chihuahuas even escorted me there as a thank you for freeing them!

Re: CastleFortify: Save and share your designs

Maybe we should create some type of mega-thread about builds using this, that has a list of revealed builds by the author (and give the author credit) (maybe even a picture of the build too)

Re: CastleFortify: Save and share your designs

Wow nice. I've done a really stupid mistake when getting back into my broken home. No security tapes to watch. sad I wonder if it was effective at all or if it got broken quickly. People can take too many items with them. tongue Everything is for naught just because my walls weren't 8+. I guess my attempt to be nice and make the way back out possible was also not the best idea. It made it probably too obvious, but I didn't feel like being a complete asshole.

Would anyone who remembers my household please tell me the numbers that you last saw?

Either way, here the basic schematics of my most important traps, not completely true to scale. It's probably horribly inefficient, but I liked it anyway. The extra wiring is anti-wallbreaking security, the completely redundant double entry was for no reason carried over from an earlier design.

Top area is really a mcguffin for the player to think they have solved the level.  Then as they progress down the trapdoors the 1st chihuaha triggers the power off on the third step.

Solving requires some bouncing around to get the 2nd chihuaha disabling the 1st chihuahas trigger.

Re: CastleFortify: Save and share your designs

as people can see pitbulls standing behind doors, i made a new invention (which a lot of people probably already thought of) in which you can still make situations where they have 66% chance to make the wrong choice
http://castlefortify.com/?id=3588a8c

as you can see, the moment he steps on a permanent switch, he can never turn back, imagine having 10 of those in a row, and at a few dead ends fake puzzles and at the good end a few normal puzzles / a code. people will have died a lot before they know which way is the right way big_smile

(i didn't put any puzzles etc in it as i'm using this construction at my home)

It's really not that complicated.  That is a cleaned up version without the extra walls.  The top section triggers the trapdoors to be powered, then the power is tripped by the chihuaha circuit directly next to it once the player is already on the floor.  Its a variance on the electric floor theme.  I just prefer seeing my thieves plummet to their doom.

Only if your whole family is dead already.

This is freaking genius.  Even being able to see the whole thing I still had to spend 10 minutes just figuring out the right order.  And to think, after making a bunch of arbitrary movements, you still have to take that leap of faith and step out onto the trap doors... SCARY

One question tho: what about using electric floors instead of trapdoors?  I only suggest that because one vulnerability this current map has, is you could bring one crow bar and 7 ladders, kill a family member with the crow bar, use 7 ladders, die, and then rejoin, and use 4 ladders to get to the vault.  To my knowledge there's no way to destroy an unpowered electric floor at this point.. thoughts?

You are right. In v5 Electric Floors are more powerful than other solutions.

However the solutions are simlar if the whole family is already dead. And even if there are still family members alive with this layout he can make walls of thickness 30 which prevents reaching the vault even with the method you mentioned.

This is something I kinda like about the current state of the game.  Even if you can make a system robust against a single attack, and even if you can make a few areas robust against 3 attacks, it seems like it would be possible to make the entire map robust against 3 attacks.  At some point there's gotta be a vulnerability somewhere in there..

That said, the downside of the current version is once someone comes in and kills one of the family members, the map gains in strength, until all of them are dead, in which case the map may become unbreakable..
