DANIEL STEVEN SMITH

daniel-steven-smith1.png
daniel-steven-smith2.jpg

And you thought this wasn't a puzzle game! smile

This is actually the exact house I contrasted in my post above about Nash. It's been a long time coming. I had tried the same strategy a few days ago, but I must have miscounted. I had just enough money left over to scope out the electronics, which involved 30 switches in series and 3 pitbulls. Luckily it was no more complicated than that.

I know this is ridiculous, but the most useful tool in this game: your fingers. They represent 10 switches in series pretty nicely.

...DERP! I didn't even see the youtube video by largestherb above. I swear I solved this by myself. I assume the logic had to have changed since that video... there was at least $10k in there after all.

Re: The Place to Post Your Break-ins

I think I'm Daniel Steven Smith. The buttons I added at the top are all decoys, literally all they can do is make some lights switch on and off and release some dogs onto you if you fiddle with them.

Nice job breaking my house without completely brute forcing it, I was a bit confused how somebody had gotten the combination at first.

Yea, I noticed that the first time. It was pretty great decoy though, because at first I wasted a lot of time studying it.

Had me fooled as well even though I suspected it was bogus. That's one of the interesting things of TCD - the importance of diversions. I never expected that the flashy lights in my house to the top would lead to at least 80% of people running up first and instantly breaking the house just because of the shinyyyyy, also because the entire light switch somehow felt more attractive than the real unlock button. Something to keep in mind for the future... wink

Re: The Place to Post Your Break-ins

Man, Mr Taber is getting on my nerves. About 35k in tools and I managed to not reach the safe. How annoying is that... Well, not a lot, since it had to be blown somewhere and at least I didn't die, but still: meh. Found the previous location of the safe at least.

Re: The Place to Post Your Break-ins

Ahh... bey bey, you must be Maurice Karl Kopp. I noticed just a bit earlier today that Mr. Taber vanished from the list. At first I thought someone had successfully robbed him, but then his house reappeared on the list... with its massive fortune intact. I then saw that Mr. Kopp's house value had dropped from around 40K to a few thousand.

Re: The Place to Post Your Break-ins

Sounds plausible!

I just wanted to take that thing of the map since it has been broken forever, but cutting your way through a concrete maze can work or it can go wrong and 50 nukes plus a few ladders only go so far. One or two more attempts should seal it, though.

I see another v5 situation arise, where a few super-wealthy could control all the paintings etc. and most cash. (I thought I'd rather blow excess cash on tools instead of on taking all paintings out of the game - a few is enough.)

Edit: Just realised that if Taber logs on now, I might be in for an interesting tape with 50k worth of tools blowing at me. big_smile

Lol.  I have some sympathy for you, and at the same time none.  I have taken down Taber before, and I have taken you down before... that was back in the days when I was big league.  Now I am living on the streets, doing it hard, man.  You don't know what it's like you sick rich bastard!  It's tough down here!  I killed someones wife for $44!  $44!  I am a sick mofo.

Now, please excuse me while I fry myself in my overly-elaborate death-traps thankyouverymuch.

Re: The Place to Post Your Break-ins

Haha, well, I spared Mr Smith since he seems to be repairing that stuff at times at least, but Mr Taber was broken before v10 started and it does annoy me.

I was honestly thinking what I would do if I were the only rich bloke around. Suicide would be an option, or preying on the poor until it kills me.

Still: It's somewhat nice that this shows the effect desired at some point: The poor struggle, some rise and then only attack each other. We only need some more middle-class, but that might only require some tweaking. Still, if the player numbers were probably three times as many, there should be a viable eco-system (more rich people attacking each other - so far NO rich bloke attacked my house apart from very early when half finished, from which the ladder is a memento.)

I feel no sympathy, you're the master of your own fate. This is 'Murica, baby, not socialist Europe where you can blame the government for not helping you out!

But wouldn't you love being able to rise again and feel a sense of security, only twitching at times when you hear a sound in the dark and flash back to the days on the streets, where you had to decide between food for your kids or one more wooden wall in your house? Then work HARDER!

Oh what's that sound? I hear my Butler announcing dinner... For me, and my trusted pitbull Fenton.

edit: I have the feeling I might regret this. big_smile

Haha, this exactly summarizes how I feel as well! I had a boatload of ill-gotten gains as soon as I started playing this game in v9 (I just pump & dumped myself into the %1). However, as soon as I died in v10 it's been a struggle. I've climbed back up to 15-20K houses a few times, but kept dying and losing everything. Then I'd be robbing poor people for $50.

I will say that I never kill spouses since they cause the houses to generate income faster (which means more for me to steal). You must really have been desperate to kill someone's wife for $44! tongue

Agreed! Taber has been #1 on my hit list for a while. His broken house annoys me... especially since you can't even take one step in!

Just as soon as I get 50K in tools...

Wow, the white whale is back and running again. Now with 64k. And he scouted my house. This is quite exciting.

Re: The Place to Post Your Break-ins

If T is back out and scouting, his house should now at least not kill you on the first step. Might be easier to rob him now.

Indeed, it looks like you can take exactly one step now without dying....  ahem.

Oh, and I was just about to test it a second time, but now there's a chill on it.  Eating my own dog food here.

Re: The Place to Post Your Break-ins

Oh this will be a particularly annoying thing I'm sure. Step on the thing once, back on the floormat, exactly n times, then walk or you die with the next step. Rinse and repeat for the length of the corridor.

Re: The Place to Post Your Break-ins

He's dead, Jim.

http://castlefortify.com/c/1b16599

It was nice while it lasted, and it was possible to bypass the floors with under 2k through the middle corridor (nuke two upper, step back and forth, go in, drug one dog, break lower door, drug dog somewhere out of the way, open next door, set dance switches to on, cut through upper part to get a dog following you with one space in between, walk across dance), but it hasn't happened. Instead it has been beaten to destruction with 40k worth of tools, no repairs possible.

Whoever will rise again will need special "Taber-traps" at some point in the house to defend against 30 ladders, 30 Nukes etc.

Re: The Place to Post Your Break-ins

A quick look shows that there is basically NO cash in the game right now. Meh. Shame, I really should have done that house design in v9 where more people would have gotten to the second stage, I would have liked to see how they fared.

edit: Alrighty, back with the bottom feeding. Come in to die people. smile

edit 2: Meh, looks like the game is broken again: All that's happening is massive death dumping etc. (even though it should have ceased). No point in playing...
