Re: Minimum Price to defend the wife from $2000 in tools?

Just thought of something. Now that dogs don't move with tool use, would Drugged meat -> Walk up to it -> Water -> Crowbar work? Using the water to wake it up?

Re: Minimum Price to defend the wife from $2000 in tools?

Currently the only way to wake up a pitbull once drugged is to step on it.

Ah. Was that removed or was I just imagining that in the first place?

It was there, but removed in v10:

Sleeping dogs (drugged) can no longer be killed with crowbars or woken with water or bricks.

Yeah, I really liked the wake-up-with-water mechanic.  Sad to see it go.

Lol I didn't even know this was possible and it's gone!  Guess I've missed some release notes.  I wish there was some other way to defend the family other than pitbulls.  It just doesn't seem like enough (unless you have a ton of them).  If family could be defended with other means, readding this mechanic might be justified.

It seems like changing animal behavior so that animals avoid standing next to dead animals (like, they smell the death from one square away), but that pit bulls still attack you if you're standing next to a dead animal (their desire to attack overrides their aversion to the death-smell) would change this.

With this change, I'm pretty sure I can design a house for $4200 that'd stop two sets of $2000 tools, or one set of $3599 tools. Add another $400, and it'd stop up to $4099 in tools I think. Of course the safe would be completely vulnerable (one space form the exit).

Well, I don't mind there being a trade-off between vault protection and family protection.

In v10, starting cash alone buys one gun and 10 crowbars, which is is more killing power than the starting cash spent on dogs alone.

Agreed, but it's even better than that for the robber. You can sometimes replace the gun with a saw and drugged meat and come with perhaps 18 crowbars (enough to kill $3400 worth of dogs AND take out the wife).

I've tried to demonstrate that here using the wife in place of the robber and the a chihuahua in place of a sleeping dog (3 turns occur between the two states): http://castlefortify.com/c/33db8c6

By the way, Castle Fortify is obviously awesome. It'd be neat if it also had a robber object and included the different states of each object (sawed, dead, etc.).

Jere - interesting idea, how do you see yourself using Castle Fortify differently if those features were added?

Re: Minimum Price to defend the wife from $2000 in tools?

Well, at the time I was thinking about how to demonstrate tool use (see the link above). It might be easier to actually try it in a house and take a screenshot, but I thought of CastleFortify because you don't have to deal with visibility, it's easier to share, etc.

Regarding the crippled object tiles, that would be nice to have simply because you can leave your house looking like that after vandalism. Those tiles are mechanically no different from empty floor, but they're important visual cues. They can be used to trick future robbers into going down the wrong paths.

Anyway, those are probably edge cases and it may not be worth the effort.
