I usually go through my security tapes mining for schadenfreude, so what I do is scan the number of deaths on the far right looking for where it is incremented.
If one tape says "2 died" and the previous one says "1 died", that previous tape should have a robber death recorded. I've seen at least one case where this wasn't true. Is this a bug?
If this is sometimes expected behavior, could we get an indicator showing on which tapes people died? Well, it'd be nice either way.

I experienced the same behavior when I logged on this morning. I was excited that my tapes said two players had died while attempting my house overnight, only to be disappointed as I watched people repeatedly enter, look at the first trap without attempting anything, and leave.

I haven't been able to figure out how these numbers work. Every time I think I understand it, I find counter examples. If this is a bug, that would explain it.

I'm not sure if a tape is saved in the event of 'server death' — death due to timeout or quitting.

That seems like a reasonable explanation. I'd definitely like a robber death indicator on tapes then.

Yeah, the death counter includes ALL robber deaths, both those that died on tape, and those that timed out (or quit the game) before the robbery ended properly.
As you all know, this leads to them being auto-killed by the server, and that counts as a death in your house (you know, if they quit mid-robbery, it was probably out of disgust because they were trapped).
Of course, when they quit or timeout, their move list isn't submitted to the server, so no tape exists for this kind of incomplete robbery.
I agree that the stat is confusing, though.

OK, this makes sense now. Thanks.
