Full world reset coming

Just letting you know that I'm about to release v16, and the changes in that version require a full world reset.  All houses will go back to the "empty" state, all money will vanish, and all paintings will return to the auction house.

I'm sorry that I have to do this.  I try to avoid resets at all costs.  But in this case, the tile set has changed (slightly), and existing houses use the old tileset.  Everyone needs to build a house with the new tileset.  A full reset was the only way to handle this fairly.

v16 should be ready in the next few hours.

Stay tuned!

(Some of you received an email about this, but I wanted to post it here too, just in case).

Will I be considered a dick if I try playing whackamole with all the puny houses that are about to pop up? Also Bey, since its gone forever now, what was that huge section to the far right of your home for?

Re: Full world reset coming

sad wish I had more notice on this, I would have copied my house from stdout to post, it is all a bit sudden. Anyway, as long some defence can work against starter cash in the new setup it should be interesting.

Re: Full world reset coming

Hmm, just logged in and found that tool prices haven't changed despite the major nerf to defences. It was hard enough to make a brute force resistant house in v15, now it will be difficult to build one that simply survives starter cash sad. Even Blips expensive idea: http://castledraft.com/editor/yzUUWM can be cracked safely and easily for less than $1000 using a ladder, one pair of wire cutters and a heap of cheap water. Looks like v17 needs to come out soon with a major tool price increase.

Re: Full world reset coming

Hmmm.... maybe a huge tool price increase will fix most of it. I think my skepticism about that before was that if you increase tool prices, then it's going to be prohibitively expensive to ever touch a magic dance house. More than $600/tile? You gotta me kidding me.

But now each trap circuit usually requires 2 tools at max. You really only should be able to bring in a very small number of tools with starter money (e.g. << 1000 water bottles).

Re: Full world reset coming

as i said before (and in my opinion, it is what actually ended up happening) increasing the tool cost just secures the place of the rich.
i don't know what to do about tool prices though. a backpack limit doesn't work. but too cheap and the starter houses run riot..

not sure about this power not passing through trapdoors, makes them very.. hmm. well, without electric walls it makes them a bit sad. i'll log in in a minute and hope to see some houses v16 built smile

You can still grab it from your v15 recorded game directory.

What I'm saying is that was true when magic dances were around because they had to be brute forced. At this point, I don't even think a fully built out house is going to be that secure. This update nerfed magic dances, it nerfed traps, it nerfed walls, it even nerfed pitbulls (you can now position yourself by hiding around a corner momentarily). The rich aren't safe. Nobody is safe.

Re: Full world reset coming

Yes, tool prices need to go up.... or wall prices need to come down.

But I don't need to release v17 to do that.  I can do that on the server, as often as I want.  You don't even have to restart your game to get the changes, because the server sends you a new price list every time you go to build or fill your backpack.

So... for starters.... hmmm...  I guess I'll just blindly double all tool prices and see what happens.

Re: Full world reset coming

Okay, done.  Obviously, this might not be enough.  And eventually, the relative tool prices (like how much a gun costs relative to a saw) may need to be adjusted.

Cool, thanks for this and the salary changes. I'm sure this will help a lot! (I suspect gun prices will have to come down - it's going to be pretty easy to defend your wife now - but I guess we can see how things go).

Re: Full world reset coming

Man, v16 is pretty rough. I've been working hard on trying to build something sustainable, but there is either one very dedicated person or a group of people who seem to have made it their mission to destroy every house as soon as it pops up. This is the first time I've ever been greeted with "None found" at the house list.

Fortunately there was also someone who intentionally left some free loot in their vault, which I was able to grab a few times. They spelled out "free" with wiring. Thanks to whoever you are. I really needed that to protect against (and repair damage from) the multiple attempts to tear down my house.

Probably me smashing it, It's pretty much our responsibility to stress test the game, if we can break a house for less than 2000(or with some vault save shenanigans) it's not really our fault that the game cant get going / : and of course we all knew how bad the neighbour hood was when we came here.

I'm glad someone gave you free stuff, last house I went to spelt out fuck you in wiring, and yes I did proceed to kill his wife, but I would've probably done that anyway to be honest.

Yes, please keep stress-testing.  Don't hold back!

I'm about to double tool prices again (to bring them up to 4x what they were in v15).  We'll see how this affects things.  I might as well play around with the prices now....  raise them until the game breaks in the other direction, and then bring them down from there.  Actually, the game can't break in the other direction, it can just get too slow.  Right now, it is way too fast.

Excellent! It might sound drastic, but I think 4x is good. If explosives are $2k, blowing through 1 concrete wall takes all of the starting money. Concrete areas become really significant and mazes become more feasible. Ladders are $2400, beyond starting cash. Since circuits are so weak, a single trapdoor needs to be that expensive to bypass.

$4k for the gun might be a little high. And the really cheap stuff still needs to come up. $8 water is still a no brainer.

5 minute timer makes it hard to build anything just to test what people can break sad

Re: Full world reset coming

Remember, 5-minute-timer starts the moment the house is created (empty) by the server.  If you take 4:30 to build the house, then it is only hidden from public view for 30 seconds after that.

Are you really building a stress-testing house in less than 5 minutes?
