Any chance of adding a BB gun for testing shotgun placement? No safe way to test that at the moment.

Maybe the shotgun needs to be.... puts on sunglasses.... NERFED.

A Nerf gun would be infinitely more awesome.

Oh, jeez, you guys are tempting me!
Our family borders on Nerf gun fanaticism over here...
But there weren't any real Nerf dart guns until 1992.
ANYWAY....
It wouldn't be hard to add some other kind of gun (even just an unloaded gun) for testing.
However, can you unpack this a bit more for me? Why do you have trouble testing gun placement? I just test the design with NO gun in place (and see where the wife moves, and if she chases me out of the house, etc.) and then place the gun once I have it all working. Maybe an example map that is hard to test this way?

As always, it's easy to learn how it works if you're willing to suicide repeatedly. I'd get that out of the way before doing anything else. Then, it's as simple as pretending the wife has already picked up the gun and checking to see if you ever get adjacent to her. If so, you can count yourself dead.
A nerf gun sounds awesome and it would be historically viable: according to that article (great article btw), technically the first (ball) blaster was released in 1989.
However, it seems a bit too zany for the tone of the game. Then you have the problem of indicating you were shot. There's no animation and you can't die (if you fell on the floor feigning death that might be kind of funny though). Maybe you could have little orange darts dropped, similar to how the trigger lock is dropped.... but you already have to know how the shotgun mechanic works to interpret that anyway.

Yeah I guess if you want to test something that involves you coming very close to getting shot and it's not a fresh life then it's a big risk. I'll try and knock up an example later.

Well, I do also want you wife shooting you the first time to be a big, shocking moment for new players. Like the shock of getting killed by your own dog.
Aha! I'll buy a gun for her!
Oh shit, why is she coming toward me with the gun?
WHAT! She just shot me??
Anyway, the lights are in there because testing certain kinds of house designs (like trapping designs) is really hard without them.... because there's no other electronically-activated object that isn't either blocking or deadly. Though you can leave back doors, that's not practical for certain kinds of electric floor designs... so I added those lights.
