With Steams coming, I was wondering what was the cheapest house that :
- protect both your wife and your safe
- could only be forced with a minimal complexity (5 bits seems enough) or more than $2000 of tools.
- have a minimal commitment door (at least $300 to turn back) to earn money from bounties
I came to this horrible little thing :

Do you see a way to break it with less than $2000? (there is probably a way I did not figured out yet)
Do you see a cheaper concept of such house?

I'm pretty sure I could take out the wife and vault in that house for $1700 and the vault for just $1300.
Edit: This is based on Simoon's older house map: http://castledraft.com/editor/SV8avs

I was sure you would be the first to find a leak
You could even take out the wife + vault for $1500 (Meat + DoorStop + Gun) and the vault for $300 (Meat + DoorStop).
I edited the draft so turning around the dog would be more expensive.
Unfortunately, this house cost now more than $2000. This cost could probably be reduced by stopping the dog with a cat on an electric floor.

The wife can still be taken out in the new house for $1500 though this will no longer get you to the vault.

Personnaly I don't buy the shotgun when I build my starter house. A second pitbull instead is much better: if your house is correctly built (i.e., no easy way to lure away the 2 dogs) you'll need 2 guns and 1 club to get to the wife, instead of the gun+2 clubs. The investment to get the wife is now 2600$ (unreachable for a newcomer) instead of 1600$.

I agree that a dog is better than a gun in a starting house (if your children are alive).
This is my current build :

The minimal cost I see to kill the wife is $2200 (2 torches, 2 meats, 1 doorstop and 1 club) i.e. the approximate cost of the house !
I am sure it can still be improved / challenged but it already give an idea of the balance.
Thank you Josh and Arakira for your inputs

Looks like a decent build, but it costs more than 2000$...

You mean the 2nd pitbull should be one tile upper?

Ah, I see, by luring the dogs down the corridor... But you also have to take into account that it is impossible for a kamikaze to guess that he'll exactly need 2 drugs, 2 torches and 1 club.

Well done Josh
To lure the dog with torches, you need a doorstop. But you can also use 4 saws and dig in the wood.

It can still be broken for $2000. Should be easy to fix though (though it is getting more expensive with each fix...).

As a payment I released your beloved “KO” painting (and its friends)

Noob here, been playing the game for two days.
Both the house designs posted in this thread appear to be impossible to break *without* tools. I was under the impression you had to get through your own design/security measures at least once, sans tools, before you could save the design?
Can someone clarify this?

Welcome to the forums death_to_ice_cream_vans! The houses posted here are all accessed by their owners by pressing a certain combination buttons. These then power voltage triggered switches in order to let power through to a inverted switch which then opens the door by denying it power. Pressing the wrong buttons stops the door from opening.

Hi! I'm as confused as death_to_ice_cream_vans. In the last house posted, you would walk right and have the dog next to you and no way to open the door. Since it's a sticky switch that's not on by default, the door would be closed. How can you success without tools? Also, even if you got through the door, with a dog that close to your tail, pressing any of the combination buttons would result in you being cornered. What am I missing?

those doors are closed when powered, not when unpowered. So the door by the entrance is open initially, until flee down from the dog, which closes it behind you, shutting out the dog. Then you're free to hit the right set of buttons to open the second door.
