"The server has been shut down for maintenance"

I'm wondering how the top 3-4 accounts skyrocketed by 100k or 200k within 5 minutes. I mean, a slew of brilliant high speed robberies seems unlikely. I'm guessing dupes dropped their final purses into their owners vaults.

Re: The Contest

Welp. I died repeatedly in a last minute robbing spree, and ended up with nothing. Yay.

Re: The Contest

Around $6500 when the server shut down. Whew! That was an intense last few minutes as I pretty much couldn't re-enter my house for most of the 30 minutes leading up to the end thanks to some bug. Glad the server shut down as a way to end the contest since I'd probably still be playing right now being unsure of when the deadline's really hitting.

Or figuring out routes ahead of time and executing on them in the final minutes, which is what I assume someone was doing in my house for the last 30 minutes.

By the way, this contest was a fantastic way of getting people to hammer the servers. Smart idea!

Re: The Contest

Ended the contest with $20,000. Hardly not bad for a day's work, considering I had to start from the beginning at the morning.
Wouldn't have wanted the house to go over $30,000 and start to look too appetizing after all.

Edit: $23,859. Not bad.

Re: The Contest

Good job everybody, and congratulations to those who did well!

Darn that guy who made me lose everything a few hours before the end though!

Can't wait to see the progress on The Castle Doctrine as work continues to get put into it, and looking forward to creating a death trap in the time to come big_smile

Re: The Contest

As long as I didn't get robbed in the last 3 minutes, I think I came out with ~$120k.

AMAZING CONTEST. Although I had such intense self hatred several times throughout this weekend. And I hardly slept. But amazing.

Yeah, I did, and that's really all that matters. Anyway, I still hope to buy my own painting, after auctioning off my old french horn on eBay; I'm assuming the paintings cost under $500 apiece, right?

Re: The Contest

I ended up with over 50k Hit that amount half a dozen times during the course of the whole contest.

Re: The Contest

Wow, best game promotion ever in my opinion!!! I think I may have a painting! really hard to tell those last hour who was alive, what they had. My house has 5 buttons up the top left wall, dog traps down the bottom left wall. Solid concrete to the right, door all the way in the bottom. From there on is a mystery smile No one even got past that.

I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right thing but I'm seeing prices for about $50. I doubt Jason would buy eight $500 paintings as prizes.

Re: The Contest

I spent all of my money trying out one of the top houses, not realising sirens had been decreased sad. It is surprising how many duplicate houses there were at the top. Dual accounters going crazy?

Also, Jason, were there any major bounty dumps at the end?

Re: The Contest

Loved the intensity this game created, and was even a great learning experience having to rewrite my house every time I did die and got robbed. Someone *cough* should make a highlight reel of the best robberies or traps people had, would love to see that.

Re: The Contest

Based on what happened in the last few minutes, it seemed like the top final houses were dual accounts. They basically doubled in price instantly. I hadn't even considered bountying on yourself.

Re: The Contest

I think it would be really cool to see the top 8 houses! Maybe if people save them and then release when there is a big update that makes them outdated?

Re: The Contest

Well, that was interesting. I may even have played too conservatively, given that I spaffed a fair bit of money on paintings and tools to keep my net worth down. The only guy who was ever really a serious contender at all for my vault came in with 18k worth of tools, drugged a dog then stepped on it.

Still, $45,000 or so ain't bad. Definitely the longest a house has lasted me so far as, too, mostly I end up stepping on my own traps well before this point!

Re: The Contest

That was amazing.  That was one of the most intense protracted gaming experiences I have ever taken part in!  Thank-you so much to everyone!  I think I made it through without any last minute robberies but how can I know?!

Super kudos to jasonroher.  This is a fantastic game you've made and a truly compelling event you've run.

When I died, stupidly, the first time after putting the finishing touches on a $15,000 upgrade to my house and lost $60,000 worth of tools after playing for 5 hours strait after work(I forgot to eat) it destroyed me.  It was my own damn fault, hubris, greed, and regret.  So much regret.  There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth.  Literally, I scared my cat with my anguished howls as I tore my shirt of and hurled myself at the floor.  When she nipped me, concerned by my unusual behaviour, I pulled it together and within 15 minutes was back climbing the ranks again.

On my third house I stopped taking stupid risks, leaving that task to those that chose to enter my kingdom of doom.

While my houses weren't the fanciest I would like to take a moment to brag and say that nobody reached the safe in any of the versions of my house.  In one of them the robber killed my wife and escaped with some money though.  I know luck had as much to do with my un-robbed streak as skill but I am still very pleased with the accomplishment.  (end brag)

Re: The Contest

If I had $20k going into the last few minutes and had gotten good at robbing I would probably max out on tools and try to take down a top house. That's probably where all the $$ came from. I know someone dropped like $8k worth of tools in my house and I was floating around 7-10th of houses I could see.
