Campaign Against Combo Locks

They're boring, unimaginative and generally quite easy to brute force once you have more than the starting $2,000. I've never used them, never will. Think up something new people, seriously. I like coming across the rare gems of houses that actually have something interesting to show me.

For instance, maybe fill your house with cats and flashing lights. So many two step deaths.

Re: Campaign Against Combo Locks

I doubt if they will ever stop, the game is all about finding the true hallway and entrances after all.

I don't see any change in finding true code than finding the true entrance.

Re: Campaign Against Combo Locks

I agree with you, the combo locks remove all the creativity and puzzles. Sitting there for 2 minutes wondering which step to take next and use some of that brain, is better than just trying your luck on a combo.

Re: Campaign Against Combo Locks

All those traps filling every house now and exploiting the screen scrolling are just as bad imho.

Re: Campaign Against Combo Locks

Why do you say that combo locks can be brute forced? I mean defence system that is controlled by combo lock can be cutted off completely, as happened to me recently (guy went well prepared and wasted 25 waters and a stack of saws. that was enough because of lack of planning in "death hallway"), but you don't need that much of resources (i.e. concrete walls, i don't use them) to hide lock itself

btw, nice cat system, i'll try something like that

Re: Campaign Against Combo Locks

Everyone will get something different out of the game.  I enjoy the creativity that I've seen in houses and have even been suckered in to so many deaths due to clever design.  I also have no problem with combo locks.  Right now, my house has survived for a bit with a type of combo lock.  Most people probably assume that you have to combo the door, but other switches are key for obstacles beyond the door.  Getting the door open is only a small part of a greater task.  Thinking that you've cracked the combination and moving forward is exactly what I want you to think.  I believe that it's unfair to say that seeing a combo lock from the outside automatically means that there is no creativity or imagination involved.  It's just a strong first line of defense to deter robbers.  I get most of my money from a screen scrolling death trap anyway.

Re: Campaign Against Combo Locks

If you don't like combination locks you could post screenshots of ones you come up against along with solutions which are known to not work. Make sure to keep track of the deaths in a house so you notice when the house changes.

Re: Campaign Against Combo Locks

I have no problem with combos as you need something easy with the initial 2000. You showed a gem that costs 4,320 purely in trap-doors, let alone the thousands elsewhere there. Give me 30,000 and I'll make you an interesting house, but for 2,000 you'll either get the Deadly-Test (the multiple choice tunnels that lead to doom) or Mazes with Dogs or a Combo. If you spend close to 2,000 then you better be good at robbing as not many people will die trying to rob your 20. If people avoid them then you'll have to rob, which we really need for the game to be fun.

Re: Campaign Against Combo Locks

Combo locks are as good for the game as other puzzles are. For the most part, with other puzzles there is no way to solve them intellectually, because you don't see the wiring behind the walls etc.
As you said, combo locks are often easy to brute force, so why campaign against them?
