Cool!
I agree with Dalleck here... The current state of abandoned houses and $0 return is pretty bad. And, here's my main problem:
If I use close to $2000 to build a house, I have nothing left for tools -- so I can't even try to rob anyone. Then, in the process, my ouse gets robbed, because I couldn't get enough money to fortify my house better. So, I have to commit suicide just to start again -- since I can't even get enough money to fix my house.
Anyway...
Just an Fyi for now, but... I haven't actually "earned" any money over the course of the last week or so. It used to tell me that I earned money every time I logged in and now it never tells me.
But as you can see there's a lot of assumptions.
But, all of your assumptions are correct. I purposely made the exact same steps, etc., while testing. I'll see what I can find out with the playbacks.
Ok, so how about this?
I just tested a very complex level with a chihuahua about twenty times to make sure that I could do it... Worked flwlessly every time. Then, I replaced the chihuahua with the pit bull and tested and the pit bull got me!
Arg... Shouldn't that have worked?
Thanks...
Oh, my... Now I feel like a complete idiot. Thank you for this revelation (which, of course, probably isn't one).
Ah! Ok, I didn't know about steel walls and electricity. That explains a lot. Thank you!
(Sorry about the dumb question.)
Hi,
Here's a very simple puzzle that isn't working for me:

But, here's the thing... When I test each component alone (e.g., the electric door puzzle) they work. But, when assembled into a two-part puzzle like this, they don't.
Can anyone tell what's going on?
I'm not sure if I agree... If you make a house that's overly complex, that's one thing. If you make a house in which you just can't get to the safe because of a dumb mistake, it's another. Just because I accidentally place the wrong switch before testing doesn't mean that I should die for it... I should be able to go back and replace the switch and test again.
Interesting. Thanks for the examples... I'll try to see if this happens again (I haven't tried to recreate it lately) and check out the Recorded Game.
This is what I'm really annoyed at. When I create an impossible puzzle (by accident) and test it, I can't go back to fix it... I have to commit suicide. It's very frustrating -- makes me not want to play. Of course, I'll keep playing -- I want to get better at constructing puzzles -- but dying without being able to alter mistakes is quite ridiculous.
This is one example that I was able to reproduce the issue on. Try leaving the room and come back. Add something unrelated to the puzzle and then test again.
Hi,
I might just be crazy, but I keep experiencing something that is quite odd. For instance, I create a puzzle made up of floor switches, etc. It works great during testing. Then, I come back to my house to make edits later and when I test, the switches don't behave the same... Here's a very simple example of what I'm talking about:
http://castlefortify.com/?id=5dd43b6
The first time, if you turn all of the switches off, the electric floors turn off. On second test, turning all of the switches off has no effect. I've done this a couple of times, but not enough to call it consistent.
Thanks,
Tim
Neat!
I'm starting to form an opinion that house-testing should not permakill the player. It's annoying and unbalanced. Imho, the testing process is the only way to create inventive solutions and if you die while testing, you lose a lot of the thought process.
Pretty amazing game even if I do die every time... Your presentations at GDC were pretty great this year. Thank you for sharing all of this good stuff.
Ah! So very helpful! Thank you!
