#1 Re: Main Forum » How'd you hear about this game/what other indie games do you like? » 2014-02-23 11:37:12

I'm always picking up a new roguelike to dabble with, provided there's time to play.
I mostly play:

Dwarf Fortress, both Fort and Adventurer mode
UnReal World - Free survival-oriented roguelike being developed by one guy on donations, just like DF - http://www.unrealworld.fi/

But lately, I've had tons of fun with this little gem:

KeeperRL: A free Dungeon Keeper-based game where you build a fortress/traps and summon minions to protect it. It also doubles as a roguelike, letting you control each creature individually. I bet any TCD fan will like it.

I hate mmo for that ( forcing you to be online to enjoy what's the game offer ), i was hoping this one was more about cleverness than online presence.

Agreed. I can't even play the game anymore lately, because I can't be online for too long (busy week).

I wish there was some form of "bank" option in the game that stored your new money for you automatically while charging heavy (and I mean HEAVY) taxes. This could stop the house from getting way too valuable overnight.
You'd have to gamble: Am I going to get enough money overnight to cover taxes or would it be better to just leave the house there and check from time to time?

Taxes could even scale with the house cost to prevent the super-rich from abusing it (and to prevent losing all your money too).

How about it?

Also, another suggestion: A "Cue Benny Hill" button that appears whenever you are playing security tapes on Fast speed. When pressed, this would start playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MK6TXMsvgQg
tongue Just kidding

I don't know much about programming or IT, but how about a simple website that received your login info, made a query on the game server and printed out the house value? That way you wouldn't need Android or iPhone programs, just plain and simple HTML (making it easy to check on a library computer, for instance).
Jason, does the server currently allow a query like this? It could even be implemented on CastleDraft if the creator wants to.

#4 Re: Main Forum » [MOD] Sweden mod » 2014-02-13 12:11:19

Pretty cool! Is there a way to change the names in the name generation files too? The mod would definitely benefit from that.

I won't play it though, but simply because (IMHO) "duty to retreat" laws are the kind of bullshit I don't like even being reminded of. We have these here in Brazil too. You can't kill a burglar, so you have to retreat as well (that or kill the fucker anyway and dump him in a ditch somewhere, praying no one finds out).

Although I do think bringing back Tool-drop in successfull vault reach would definitely help curb Brute-forcing w/o removing Brute-forcing??

Good point. I wonder, though, if it would make people try to spend all their tools after finding the vault to reduce the chances of a revenge robbery. But the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

well but it's kinda weird... you should protect your family, not try to get rid of them asap.

I repeat, i haven't played the game too much, but this free path mechanic looks like is missing something.

and if no top house has a family, i really see a problem in that

Family is still useful because of Panic Buttons. However, most of the top houses have been robbed already, and someone that bruteforces these houses has a LOT of tools on them, so they can give themselves the luxury of killing kids (being that it doesn't give you any real reward).

#7 Re: Main Forum » Any guide how to make a magic dance tramp? » 2014-02-10 11:09:10

When I want a tramp to do a magic dance I just swing a bottle of liquor in front of him and shout "DANCE, MOTHAFUCKA!".

tongue sorry, couldn't avoid it.

If this is possible, would maybe a "default loadout" be a possibility? When I start a new life I pretty much just chain-rob with $2000 worth of tools until I have enough for a decent house.
Needless to say, I die a ton of times doing this. Having an "y/n" option for beginning with a predefined loadout of tools would be nice.

Currently build of mine does this:

Everytime you load a map;

"What do you do? SEND 31 as YES" (Don't ask why 31.)

If I press 31, my 2k budget house gets built automaticly.

I'm sure I can set a default-loadout easily.

When does the map load?

- When you start building a house

- When you watch a tape

- When you rob a house

Cool! If this isn't forbidden (let's wait for Jason's say on this), I'll try it as well.

2) There is no point to scouting with no tools because someone will INSTANTLY get your vault and steal your money so (almost) everyone ops to buy tools instead. And because of the tool drop, this leads to A TON of people dying in houses and giving the top people MORE AND MORE tools (money).

This could be solved by extending the 5 minutes that the game takes to add your house to the list. 10 minutes, maybe? 5 for scouting and 5 for robbing.

JoeBlow & MasterPain: aaah now I understand. They have a sockpuppet that they use to figure out houses. It does not matter if sockpuppet dies. When they suceed, they know how to break house and take their large account.

2 soultions that would solve this problem altogiheter:
Generate name using a pseudorandom function that takes both the target player account, and source player account, as input. Thus 2 alt accounts will never find the same house.
Make so chills also apply to IP. So if a specific user is on Chill, apply same Chill to user's IP as well.
If a alt-account logs on from a IP that has Chills, copy over the chills to that account. (using a OR equation, so any chills already on account is COMBINED with chills on IP, and then stored on account AND IP).
(so if he would log in with he's low value account, he will also now have the chills of his high-value account as well)

The part about IP-shared chills has already been discussed on the forum (probably wont happen, because it would be a pain in the ass to people who simply play from the same house and don't help each other out), but I REALLY like the idea about the names. We won't have any of the "famous" dudes but it would help a lot in countering this "scout" tactic.

EDIT: Nevermind, didn't know this had been discussed already.

#12 Re: Main Forum » Most stupid user ever! » 2014-02-04 17:12:12

My guess as well. Something similar happened to me, the guy comitted suicide right in front of the vault and later on someone robbed me clean.
Suggestion: Change some things around just to mess with them. This shit needs to stop.

Aside from that, is there any way a Steam user could maybe change his TCD accound login email to his actual email? It would be good to be able to play this on another computer without having to memorize the weird e-mail Steam uses to log me in (and without installing Steam on said computer).

You should only have to put in the email once in the standalone client and it will be saved.

Cool, should've tried that before!
This is a great game to carry around during trips to places with nothing but old computers and 3G internet.

Thanks

Keyboard shortcuts for selecting house objects! Would be less fastidious than going in the menu all the time (or alt-clicking) when in building mode.

I was just going to make this exact same post (registered just now to say that, actually). The current system for house building could be improved in some ways, in my opinion, enough not to make building "too easy" but to speed up the process a little.
For instance:

-Zooming-out function to be able to view the whole map (though I'm not sure Jason would approve of this since it detracts from the "being able to feel like you've locked yourself in" experience)
-Keyboard shortcuts
-Mouse scroll-wheel to cycle between 8 or 10 pre-selected tiles, kind of like Minecraft perhaps? (yeah, I know, this game is mentioned in this forum way too much, but it's just an example)

Any more ideas?

Aside from that, is there any way a Steam user could maybe change his TCD accound login email to his actual email? It would be good to be able to play this on another computer without having to memorize the weird e-mail Steam uses to log me in (and without installing Steam on said computer).

Cheers!
