Sounds like you are on the path of better protecting your family and your vault.  There are plenty of traps that are not cost effective and ways to set up protection for your wife that someone would need two pistols to get to your wife which isn't possible on a 2k kit.

I like your rug idea. I'm sure iceman, if not Jason, will hear you out on it. As for the second idea, I think this game needs to be exactly as harsh as it is.

Your right about how harsh the game needs to be.  I should of just exited the house before heading afk and it was my own fault.  Glad you like the rug idea, I'm hoping this game continues to be tinkered with and grow.  It is addictive and fun.  I'm really glad I went to the youtub and watched Aavak, Rooster Teeth and a few others showcasing this game.   Now I'm trying to get a friend to buy it as well, he seems interested.

Did you ever think to spend all your money protecting your wife and leave the vault to be compromised?  Do that and go out with some tools and rob a few houses then build around protecting your vault second.  The vault can be repaired and restocked, your wife can not.  Also if you are so intent on saving your wife you should not go out clubbing other peoples wives.  Have a code of honor if you feel so unjustified by other people killing your wife.  I never go out after another persons wife just for the money.  Though I'm more a builder than a robber.

Two quick suggestions.  One is a new house object, rugs.  They could be used to cover regular pitfalls or switches or even just upon a blank floor as a red herring.  A brick tossed upon it would drop the rug into the pit if it indeed covered one, pressed an associated switch under or simple crumble if it was concrete under the floor.  I could at least envision some  unique mazes that could benefit from that other than having a pitbull chasing you through it.

Second idea relates to being idle in your house too long while self testing.  I noticed it does not warn you that five idle minutes = death though it is implied it is simply just like robbing anyone else.  I was self testing and had to unfortunate go afk for longer than I hoped to help my wife, when I returned of course I was dead even though there was clearly a safe path back to the exit.  Could it be possible at least for self tests when idle as long as there is a safe path back to reset the house the same way it does during build mode?  I understand not having all self testing reset a person because if you corner yourself in your own trap you deserve the death you devised but if it is all chihuahua's and indicator lights it could just dump you back to the neighborhood screen.

Curtains are interesting.  Someone else proposed something like that a while back.  Though... I'm wondering what kind of interesting designs could be possible with curtains.  For a dog to come out, it has to see you first somewhere else (because the curtain blocks the dog from seeing you).  So what is the value of hiding the fact that a dog is back there and about to come out?

Curtain's could be cheaper than doors but not obscure view, maybe revert the view past curtains to be two or three tiles where doors only allow a single view.  Sometimes misleading with line of sight could work in a variety of  different ways.
Also an idea I was thinking about was the inclusion of rugs and not for decorative purposes.  They could be placed over regular pitfalls and possibly even switches or over empty floors.  Would add another use for the brick as tossing it on a rug covered pitfall would of course trigger it or it would simply shatter upon the hard floor underneath the rug.  I could already see myself hesitating at a four/three way cross road of hallways with a rug sitting in the middle of it.

Now the successful robber can come back all he wants and drive your home down to $0, and possibly obliterating your house in the process, that's what pretty much always happened when it was like what you are describing. They could completely ignore the wife and still get rid of all the money that she holds.

Oh I don't think it should be like that either.  I wouldn't want to see the mechanics of the 'broken vault' changed at all.  Just the wife should always get half the money.  Sorry if I did not make that clear.  As it stands if someone wants to obliterate you regardless they would come kill the wife and rob the vault back to back.

I think that could have been someone with a second account. He might tries to kill as much family members as possible to increase his bounty and then suicide in the other accounts house. Therefore he doesn't need the money.

I really hate how that is a system to cheese the game into getting a lot more money to propel yourself up to the top.

Having the wife always have half the money would only increase these issues from what I see. You'd need to be on more often, the game would be harsher, the wife would be less useful, and it would be harder to keep up a house with a wife.

You don't need to be on the game 24 hours a day, although like any game the more you're on the more you can progress. I've left my house unedited for a week and still been unrobbed when I came back. Although don't expect to have a house like that immediately, I was about a month into playing the game before my first house lasted a full day left alone. It's still possible to build and progress.

Possibly, but it is hard to improve anything with no money.  So either its a constant cycle of just making starter houses never able to improve your designs or you babysit your house trying to improve upon it.  I suppose one way of saying you 'won' the game is to drain all your money from your house and have your wife be alive so that no one bothers to rob it.

No its more that money made while you are logged off is not split to the wife.  So lets say you sign off your house is worth 200, the wife has 100.  Now a bunch of people rob your house, none of those bounties are given to the wife and it all goes straight to the vault via one of my pitbulls carrying it over there I presume.  So lets presume you make 500 in bounties not including tools left.  If someone robs your house they would get 600 instead of 350 unless you logged into your house before a successful robber.

I just think it should be that your wife actively gets half of the bounty money and all of the bounty money (should she kill someone with a shotgun / panic button triggered trap)  though I believe that is how it works as far as kills she gets with a shotgun.

Seems like a bit of a under sight in my opinion.  How are you suppose to improve your house at all?  Realistically the game shouldn't demand you be on it 24 hours a day.  There has to be a little give to promote players to at least get to the mid range of the game.   I hope that its changes to have the wife actively keep half the money to reward players for dedicating defenses to her more worth wild.  The game is already punishing as it is, I don't think forcing people to never shut it down or sleep should be part of that punishment.

It seems that is exactly how the wife is.  Is it a bug?

#13 Re: Main Forum » Wife money splitting broken after vault is emptied? » 2014-03-03 14:35:31

That is a really frustrating part of the game.  The wife honestly should be worth half of whatever the house is worth not including tools.  Had a bounty for 3600 from a guy with no tools.   Of course also during the night someone finally did successfully rob my house leaving me with 50 dollars and taking all the cash.  Just seems to make the wife really useless if she isn't actively keeping half the cash, I can see why people just have their family killed since the family is practically useless and the vault is always 'all in' unless you are on your account 24 hours a day.

#14 Re: Main Forum » Tips Page » 2014-03-03 14:22:09

I've learned my wife really doesn't keep half the money unless you log into your house.  Really makes the wife kind of useless.

#15 Re: Main Forum » Family Protection Guide and Suggestion » 2014-03-01 16:10:30

I would like to see something like a panic room added for the family to hide in.  Perhaps another use of the panic button other than opening other traps.  More family friendly traps in general would be good to make more use of the panic button to protect the family besides walls of pitbulls being the only method.  At least it would lead to other tools besides guns and meat to be needed to get to ones family.

#16 Re: Main Forum » [Suggestion] After the wife is dead... » 2014-03-01 16:06:15

Personally I think some more defenses for the family besides walls of pitbulls would be really nice.
