Actually, it was 4 attempts total (aside from poking my head in with no tools) AND I did it alone, the information that others provided while welcome, did not reveal anything I either didnt already know or revealed areas of your house that were not needed to be revealed.

It was just a giant conventional double combo lock, with pet herding exercises built into it. Why would anyone try to crack that when it is far cheaper and easier to brute force it like i did?

It can be brute forced for 12.6K but it took roughly 20K to discover where the vault was, which was in a predictable location. One needs to strike a balance between brute force protection and complexity. This was too complex and super vulnerable to brute forcing.

Justice won the day! Let this be a lesson to anyone who thinks they can blatantly cheat and not suffer consequences.

Funny that you say it is susceptible to brute forcing considering it withstood 10+ brute force attempts with tools amounting up to 60k at times. Granted, with prior knowledge of my map, like when myself or some little pissant posts it online, then weak spots can be found. But to the uneducated robber like yourself the cost to brute force is immense.

Kid, you think this is justice? You think these are consequences? I consider it a win for myself personally. I have been too addicted to this game for too long now. This is the perfect exit for me. My house, in 4 iterations (3 dead self tests) was NEVER cracked. It survived for 2 months, killed well over 1000 people, including more than a few top pagers. But you enjoy your petty way of playing and accuse people who are better than you all you like. Bye now little boy.

Ooh looky here, Amatiel is the first person to ever find (not rob) my vault, entirely through the advanced knowledge of multiple robbers and about 10 attempts himself alone. He is broke now, so I think it is a perfect time to retire my house undefeated. Paintings and cash go to my brother, whether he tries to protect them is entirely up to him from here, I'd rather they be sent back to the auction house to be honest.

Here is a look at what none of you could ever crack. This is more for you Stefan, Lord0fHam and Gyuri, the 3 people who have had decent looks around, but never solved it. I'll describe the various traps if anyone wants to know.

Think you could hold onto them safely? I don't want them to go to one of these other noobs, even through you. If you're confident with your house I might. I still haven't made up my mind.

Amatiel you need to get a grip and stop trying to play the martyr card when you are the expletive who is in the wrong here. My brother does in fact have an account, and we frequently do scout together, but this nonsense you are spouting is simply that. Nonsense. I also love your "proof beyond a doubt" too, you would make a great scientist. Do you realise how many houses I stick my head into when I'm online? All of them, that's how many. But since I stick my head into a house and find a vault staring me in the face, I am to be condemned for taking it?

Also, how about you get your story straight. My wealth was sitting at 9k when I came back online. I promptly robbed some low hanging fruit (Charles David Clark had like $4800 alone) and got up to about 16k before spending around 10k in your house. What a waste of space it is. I mean literally. Yawning chasms of pits, concrete/pit/concrete/pit, no creativity whatsoever. Unlike some of the more petty and spiteful players in this game, I will not post the map of your house. I don't want anyone else getting what is mine. Expect to see me back again shortly, if you actually payed attention to the broken maps you would notice just how often free money shows up in them. Here's a free tip, map out Patrick Connells house and some of the other obviously broken ones, those are abandoned goldmines. If you spent more time perfecting your game than complaining, you might realise just how easy it is to turn a profit from the 2-6k lower middle class.

Edit: Well that last attempt was a waste of money, I wasted too much time writing this stupid comment and forgot to buy crowbars. Oh well, see you tomorrow.

Edit 2: You know what, screw you guys in general. I'm going to have a long think tonight about retiring my house unbroken. Thanks for the support Stefan, fair douche act on both of their parts, not that it is any surprise. Meh, just goes to show that they can't do it alone. I might save up a few bucks and knock off Mr Coney. I know he is one of them and it will serve him right. Teach him how it is really done.

Or you at least spend your money as soon as you get enough of it, but I very rarely see your value above 10k

This is the ONLY reason your paintings aren't hanging in my gallery btw

You have been very cocky about robbing me numerous times Amatiel. I have 63 paintings, come take them if you can. Even lowballing their worth at 10k each, that is over 600k value right there. Things didn't turn out well for the last few top tier adversaries I have had. If you are Mr Noonan or Mr Dunn you MAY have enough money to get lucky on a brute force, but otherwise, come join the legions of those to have tried and failed.

I am not one to let my value stagnate after the 10k mark when people stop robbing you, I am very active and steal my way up to 20k before going on serious scouting trips. Sometimes peoples bases are so weak that the initial 20k is enough to rob them, then I just spend that money and go scout someone else. Other times I fail to rob them, but have a 3/4 complete castledraft map of their house before allowing 2k robbers to replenish me before going back the next day. My point being; I don't just babysit 10-20k, I use it. And unless I get carried away on a robbery, I never have less than 4k,

A couple of days ago i literally had just loaded up on 60k of tools ready to do you when your value plummeted. I felt rather ripped off tbh, even tho you didnt have much when i first looked at you. Realistically, with the way you manage your funds, anyone who robs you is going to make a huge financial loss. Good strategy i guess.

Also, paintings are worthless.

Money is worthless. There is literally not a single cent I could spend on my house anymore. Paintings are the endgame. I have no desire to be at the top of page 1, babysitting a pile of cash, I would rather use the cash to keep accruing more paintings. Come pay me a visit with 60k, you wouldn't be the first. My vault has yet to be seen, let alone reached.

As for making a financial loss to rob me, if you don't count paintings as a symbol of wealth then you are entirely correct. Nobody will ever make a cash profit from brute forcing me, because I see absolutely zero point babysitting that much money when I could actually be having fun robbing people.

(Btw, just making it clear that this is intentional braggadocio/smack talk; I really do want to see what it takes for someone to reach my vault; I want to share my house with this community. However I will not do that simply by sitting on an ever so slowly rising pile of cash. Noonan and Dunn (who I assume you are one of) have been at the top of the list for weeks and their value barely changes. Nobody pays any attention to them. That is not fun. The endgame for me is entirely about robbing paintings.)

Mr Noonan and Mr Dunn are regular visitors, but they only take 3 steps so I think they are just keeping an eye on my art. Are you Mr Coney?

But welcome to my castle wink. Since I have become active in the forums and everyone seems to know I am the painting hoarder, I thought I would up the stakes for anyone who wants to have a little scout. It was the first major renovation I'd done on my house in weeks, terrifying to self test. I must have done it about 5 times with indicator lights and chihuahuas before I had the guts to do it for real.

The only issue with the panic button is that it holds the dog back.  If the robber wanted to escape, the panic button would keep the dog back so the robber could get one square away and club the dog.  $200 to escape that trap.

Hmm fair point. I forgot that you could stand next to a dog on a panic button. Could make that whole corridor steel/concrete and time it so the dog is spaced so that it is unclubbable (did I just make up that word?).

http://castledraft.com/editor/XgXpnt

Something like this could be nasty. If the player toggles the door open then when they come back down the dog will head straight for them. If the player toggles the door closed then the dog will be held in front of the door in much the same way as the panic button, but when they open the door again they can't club it.

I look forward to seeing it!

If you haven't yet established a new house for yourself, you should peek your head into mine and see my new entrance Stefan. It's been in the pipelines for a while, but until now I liked to keep my entrance inviting. I finally made it deadly and it hasn't seemed to deter the 2k guys, which is nice.

One that I like is to have a cat push a button to unlock something further down the track, but punishing them for scaring it the wrong way. Of course you make it most difficult for them to find the correct door first. The glass window just seems like the correct path to walk past.

http://castledraft.com/editor/yp2auG

Of course this can be padded out to make it longer, more robust, and of course if they want to cut their way in through the wiring and press the button themselves they are breaking the mechanism because it will likely power a pit.

That may have been me sorry, I was hoping to encounter the new trap mechanics in action, unfortunately not really. I came across one place with 3 or 4 CAD things, but I have no idea how they work. One of them chased me for about 10 steps before turning off. Another chased me for about 3 steps before turning off. A third one killed me when I tested to see if it was even a deadly enemy.

You think you're safe because you're just looking around a corner, but you're actually committed once the dog sees you on the long diagonal.

I personally prefer to stop any curious people from wandering up that corridor. I think this is a better design: http://castledraft.com/editor/TndEHH

That's beatable though. You can walk back and forth to toggle the switch to where the dog actually kills itself.  It's how I lost my dog Fluffy in a robbery smile

This is true, I employ a system where the dog steps on a sticking switch and disconnects a trigger switch. I was just highlighting the cheapest way possible.

Edit: See my updated post just above this one. It just costs $100 more which can hurt starter homes.

I don't understand it to be honest. One name in specific is Christopher R. Holmes. He frequently keeps his value below $100, but he has like 15 paintings and a house that is obviously in no danger from 2k robbers. I might scout him and knock off his paintings soon, but I just don't get how it can be fun to hide at the bottom of the list constantly.

I frequently drop to 2k, but only as a result of unsuccessful robberies or art acquisition. But <$100? It wouldn't even get any attention. Hell, I like my starter homes to have $500-1000 let alone a seemingly top tier house. I would have thought it was a broken/abandoned house, but the art remains despite the value of the house rising and falling, which means the vault is intact.

Nakula wrote:

or just use my method

Or, you know, not. A robber can make the wrong decision in your method and still escape alive for the measley cost of a meat. That's $100. Or if they don't walk up the path initially, but instead scare the cat it only costs a meat, a water and a brick to escape - still only $350. Either that or they can just avoid it entirely for free, not get committed, not die, and not give you their bounty.

Here is an expansion of the best variety. If they are clued in to the corner trick then they would be smart enough to avoid it. This is where the powered doors come in. They figure it is safe to stand on the button because they can always just flee, how wrong they are. The panic button in front of the door keeps the dog blocking their exit. No 2k robber could afford to circumvent this.

http://castledraft.com/editor/YBnaXi

For anyone wanting a starter house using this technique, just get rid of the second dog, get rid of the powered doors, get rid of the steel, scale back to 2 thick walls. This brings the price down to $820. Leaving plenty for extra defenses once they are committed and can not escape without over $900 in specific tools.

http://castledraft.com/editor/vs4mfJ

Bases are supposed to trap robbers. Even better if they don't realise they have even committed until it is too late. Your method doesn't force commitment and even if they fall for it, it is super cheap to escape.

#45 Re: Main Forum » WTH? » 2014-03-20 21:40:49

Don't get me wrong, combination locks are an effective part of the game and I have been known to use them, but they are a very weak form of defense against determined robbers. If it is your last line of defense then I wouldn't want to carry more than about 10k at any given time.

#46 Re: Main Forum » Fortress Theory Mod - Version 3 » 2014-03-20 09:35:14

As someone who has never experimented with mods before, and is deep in the endgame of CD, will installing this cause me to lose my current game?

Edit: Btw, kudos! The changelog looks awesome, good luck with it all and I will give it a shot for sure.

Poked my head in. Wish you had art. I know it will probably cost more than 20k to scout/rob you, so there is no incentive for me without the intangible value of paintings tongue.

#49 Re: Main Forum » Vent » 2014-03-20 08:32:40

Naw I was on a roll too. Stolen 7 paintings just today, and was about to use the proceeds of my latest heist to rob another before I did a stupid.

You are welcome to come take them wink

EDIT: All good, wen't back and picked it up. His entire trap system was a 40 step long magic dance with entirely electric floor. So weak. Cut along the wire until the rest triggers. Water all the way to the vault.
