My theory: Jason added the suggested "Love Potion" and someone somehow got hold of the development build.

There was something endearing about making your way through the mangled remains of all these broken houses for some quick cash.

*sigh*
When I tried compiling the source, I got this error:

In file included from ../../minorGems/graphics/openGL/SingleTextureGL.h:34:0,
                 from ../../minorGems/graphics/openGL/ScreenGL_SDL.cpp:126:

compilation terminated.

EDIT: Apparently, I didn't have libsdl-dev installed. Sorry!

Or at least a .deb file or something. I recently switched to Ubuntu and don't feel like compiling the source code for every new release. Is there a valid reason why there's no .deb file support?

Because house design has been nerfed, and tools cost so much, the prevalent design currently is a vault in front of the door, concrete walls, and pit bulls. Once someone robs the house, it's unsolvable. To illustrate my point, there are only 3 currently solvable houses in the game! They are Brett John Walen, Michael Wilbur Jackson, and me. That's just sad. And once someone robs those houses, they're unsolvable without tools.

#33 Re: Main Forum » The Castle Doctrine trailer » 2013-08-23 17:29:20

For some serious criticism of the new trailer, it sounds like Jason just read the script from the old trailer, substituting a few lines as you went. In particular, the "It looks like it already happened, because as you were exploring the neighborhood..." line just completely sounds wrong in that tone of voice. And nobody on Kotaku seemed to take issue with the trailer.

BTW: I made a new version of the trailer that's even MORE depressing! Enjoy! (Jason, if you want to use it, go right ahead. It seems you're really embracing that "I live in a mausoleum" motif, so I guess I saved you some work).

What's with the new version of the trailer?

It's pretty depressing, compared to the old version which someone uploaded here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Szd2EsyuYWA

My house survived, but my wife died. On the bright side, only a window got broken and my kids survived!

#39 Re: Main Forum » A proposal that needs feedback » 2013-08-14 18:18:09

As this change is meant to help newbies, and I completetely suck at this game, I've decided to say what I think. Personally, whenever I see a magic dance house I just leave. It's not worth my time. The best way around magic dances is the button change suggested by gyuri, however that makes the chihuahuas useless. To fix this, I'd reduce the price to say, $50 and make it so if you stepped on the same tile as one you'd waste half of your turns (Maybe explaining that by saying, "Ow!  The little bugger bit your foot!" or something every other turn. However, this would still leave combo locks. For this, I think the changes would still make sense, as it would be nearly impossible to make one that costs less than a few hundred bucks to get to the electronics room, but is still survivable. And this game is about vulnerability, right?

Yep, by creating the chase condition you are gonna turn away a whole bunch of tourists.

The problem is, if you pick the wrong door, you'll at the most need the robber to pay $200 to get to the vault. In my opinion, it's better to spend all your money making a house that's half-defended before robbing to complete your more expensive design than a fully-developed house that won't keep anyone out after a couple hours.

Mine sucks compared to yours, but I'm a newb at the whole "House Building" thing. I died, so here's my house. http://castlefortify.com/c/307cde9

Great! When I die, I'll post the link here.

#47 Re: Main Forum » Show me yours I'll show you mine. » 2013-06-28 17:45:08

I had this one design I really liked, where there were a bunch of little "modules" around the room (Maze, walk of faith, chihuahua-powered death traps, etc) that unlocked powered trapdoors by the vault, so you needed to go through every trap to go through the vault. Of course, someone just brought a lot of ladders and got entry, and then I died so I can't show you the design any more. Now, I'll make backups with CastleFortify. Edit: How do you make backups with CastleFortify? There's no way to upload maps, and I can't find the location of my house map.

P.S: So that was YOUR house! I had no idea how to solve it, and kept finding it, so eventually I just ignored it. How did it "fall"?

I do know that Jason may be waiting for morning to write the news article, but digging around his SourceForge and using my url-editing-fu, I found the v10 change log! Which is here: http://sourceforge.net/p/hcsoftware/Cas … ngeLog.txt

Besides the obvious, he:
1. Added entropy to the map encryption keys

2. Fixed a number of vital bugs

3. Added a "Move half" button to the backpack.

Right when I finished building my new house and validated it, the client says that the server's gone down for maintenance. Is it? I don't see anything on the forum about it. All I hope is that my house was saved.
