I was wondering why I had an unusually high number of robbery tapes.....

No one called it cheating when I busted up in Ceridian city with a level 100 Mew. (Actually, one person did call this cheating... but no tears were shed for Misty on that day)

No one called it cheating when I whipped out all five pieces of Exodia.

No one calls it cheating when I shoot the moon.

No one called it cheating when I solved the shrine of the silver monkey.

(Kudos if you get all the references)

I think people with two accounts have advantages over people with one.  However, I could easily pony up and get another copy of the game.  Or, I could just ask my friend to club my wife for me, or to let me scout.  We bought the game together.  We watch each others security tapes, and robberies.  Technically, I'm as guilty as anyone else on that list because I see a map without my account actually being at risk.

(At least I think... I don't know if this instance counts as using the account..... or just having an account.... although I don't actually have it or use it because it's my friends, so I think I found the loophole in this argument)

This is the greatest.

It's like watching a gun fight.... but one guy doesn't realize his gun ran out of bullets...

I've been following this discussion and I see one problem with that trap, wouldn't the dog get stuck in the breaker circuit while trying to chase you? you can step out without even seeing the dog! Maybe I'm wrong and I fail to understand pet mechanics hmm

Edit: spelling

If you're talking about the dog at the top, then no.  It'll hit the sticky toggle switch, which cuts power to the electrical floor.  The dog can then travel all the way to the bottom to cut off a robber trying to escape.

If you had enough ladders, could you walk straight to this vault?  It's represented with squares in castle draft, but it would be a large pit in game.

I know that ladders work over single pits, but do they work over large pits as well?

I just saw a video of a 2k robber standing on my welcome mat and he just left.  The video recorded one step.  I've never seen a video record any less than three steps.  Has anyone else seen this?  I thought you had to enter the house before anything was recorded.

Killer Mosquito , if you want more robbers who work around and try to solve your puzzle without tools, make it so they feel safe not using any tools. If you don't know how to do that, you should do some more robbing so you know get the robbers perspective on when they are "safe."

That definitely makes sense.. but the issue is that 2k isn't nearly enough money to do something like that.  I'm a very poor robber.  I've only had one big heist (which for me was about $6000).  So, I build a decent 2k proof house.  I was robbed, then the guy came back and killed my wife.  I restarted and did the same.  I lucked out and got a guy with a 3k bounty to die in my house, so I built it out from there.  I had to build a death trap to collect money to build a better house.  Now, my house is kind of stuck in death trap mode, and I'm using paintings to keep my worth at a reasonable level.  The only way I could make my current house "safe" is to replace everything with non lethal tiles.  It would be fun to have people walk around and look, but I'd probably end up losing all of my money as well. In any case, I'm stuck with the legacy death model until I get an obscene amount of money to rebuild.

The only issue with the panic button is that it holds the dog back.  If the robber wanted to escape, the panic button would keep the dog back so the robber could get one square away and club the dog.  $200 to escape that trap.

Hmm fair point. I forgot that you could stand next to a dog on a panic button. Could make that whole corridor steel/concrete and time it so the dog is spaced so that it is unclubbable (did I just make up that word?).

http://castledraft.com/editor/XgXpnt

Something like this could be nasty. If the player toggles the door open then when they come back down the dog will head straight for them. If the player toggles the door closed then the dog will be held in front of the door in much the same way as the panic button, but when they open the door again they can't club it.

One possible advantage to the panic button: Depending on the construction of your house, if you use the panic button and your house is robbed then your house would become a one step death trap if your into that kind of thing.

I'm rather sick of these "I want my house to be solved" posts, especially when your house is full of doors that a robber can't possibly know if he's supposed to open or leave shut. And yes, gyuri, I'm calling you out. "Solving" a house almost always requires the robber to have one exit strategy, the vault, and one misstep can easily render a house unsolvable. That's why brute forcing, self-test death, and carelessness are what take down the top houses.

I didn't mean to offend.  I didn't realize it was in bad taste to have a post like this.  The post is honest, however.  I really do want some one to solve my house.  Every time I watch a tape, I find myself rooting for the robber.  I'm not after bounties or racking my price up.  Honestly, if I get on the first page, I highly doubt I'm a skilled enough builder to protect my money.

Wow... that describes me perfectly at the moment.  I've put too much work into this house to risk robbing it.  One of the comments made a lot of sense about the fact that no one will ever solve your house unless it's easy.

Although,  I've always wanted to have a messload of money and build a really difficult, non-threatening puzzle.  I build a house with three modules to pass.  I wanted the third module to be completely non-lethal, but something fun to solve after making it through my other two relatively tough modules.  I didn't have the space or creativity to make it work though.

I tried.  I looked today and there were no paintings.... I certainly understand why you wouldn't be looking to rob people though.  That's a lot of paintings...

I don't know my name... but I'm on page 3 (20,000's) with 50 kills.  There's another guy with 49, that's not me.

My house is two pages from being on the top.  I'm honestly not interested in being on the top page.  I want my house to do well, though.  I want to see my house solved... but I'm dreading the point where someone comes with enough money to brute force the house.  I've tried to make it as bruteforce-proof as possible... but I'd really like to see my house solved instead of broken.

I know this post won't really solve anything, but I just felt like saying this aloud (relatively speaking)...

You think you're safe because you're just looking around a corner, but you're actually committed once the dog sees you on the long diagonal.

I personally prefer to stop any curious people from wandering up that corridor. I think this is a better design: http://castledraft.com/editor/TndEHH

That's beatable though. You can walk back and forth to toggle the switch to where the dog actually kills itself.  It's how I lost my dog Fluffy in a robbery smile

#44 Re: Main Forum » I have fallen victim to my own house. Here it is ! » 2014-03-11 21:45:43

I use modules when starting new houses and I build the modules as I get the money to do so..  My current house has 3 modules to pass.  I got the 1 module maxed out, then added the second, then added the third.  As it happens, no one has ever got through the first module.  The first module took awhile to upgrade with concrete and other improvements.  But since it was built so well, I could wait and build my other two modules the way I wanted to without having to save more money.  Unfortunately, my house is above 10k, so people don't really rob me anymore.

Oh, sorry.  I guess I misunderstood the issue.  I thought you were talking about the fairness of being able to solve a trap or the frustration of getting caught in an impossible trap (unless you know the secret).  In that case, how much would the cost-to-escape have to be for the trap to be considered fair game in your opinion?

#49 Re: Main Forum » Tips Page » 2014-02-28 19:35:24

Here's something I thought of (unless there is something about the mechanics I don't know about).  If you plan on making money through bounties and you don't plan on robbing... sell all the tools in your vault if you still have your wife.  She can hold half of your money, but she can't hold half of your tools.  It keeps your safe from being the majority of your wealth.

#50 Re: Main Forum » Ideas and questions » 2014-02-28 19:13:52

Even better might be an EMP or electronic flare?  The EMP could disable (for better or worse) all wiring within one step (North south east west) of the robber.  I like the idea of an electronic flare that, when used, will show all wiring on the screen for approximately 1-2 seconds.  Make it more expensive than wire cutters, maybe $500-600?
