well. take a live hostage for no immediate financial gain as a way to lure people in versus quick murder and instant $30,000~ cash injection.
not sure how many people here would bother with the old hostage approach! it'd be a nice additional usage for the brick, at least
i have been waiting a long time for castle fan art. because i can't draw.
very good
The current system rewards you for babysitting the game.
This is the single largest problem with the game. You simply cannot leave it alone for any significant amount of time and not be forced to start all over again with the tedious rinse and repeat of a brand new build out or buying $2000 in tools and hoping for the best.
my house is now 36 hours since i finished it. i have logged in to look at tapes, and to buy paintings a few times.
if this is babysitting, i need to get onto that career path.
the best home defence i have ever seen was back in v6 or whatever, when someone had managed to get a pitbull on their welcome mat.

William Cameron Williams, atm his house is in ruin , dead dogs litter the ground , the vault is empty and the wife is in a far off corner with her shotgun waiting
noo, jeff williams!
@colorfusion. You leave $2000 in your house, its a 0/0 house and it doesnt get snatched up ASAP. Thats impossible. And @Masterpain there is no 5 minute delay. If you walk out of your house its on the server.
there is a five minute grace period from start of a new life.
i think i suggested something like that a long time ago, pre-set 'kits' you could buy with one click. but it isn't tooooooo bad buying them manually. *shrug*
the code was 63 + 5 + 2 or something similar, i already forgot
i like the house with going on 2000 break-ins.
my hostage idea was more just keeping the partner tied up in a room somewhere, no clear path needed. no gun. but maybe they continue to hold any money they had in their pockets when they were kidnapped, and that is used as the reward for anyone who finds frees them and then reaches the vault/exits the house successfully.
It would also make something like this work.

with the new, very strict limits on what is actually visible, the power supplies/lights are hidden anyway. you can tell there isn't a wall there, but you can't tell what is actually there without directly viewing the tile.
Thanks for the Answer - Just making sure. As Paintings seem like the only way to get rid of wealth currently...
buy tools, run into someone's house, run out
so the key to victory would be spend to $2000 and never log in again. sounds like a plan
i believe ukuko and myself are going to team up on the streaming lark. more details about this soon, depending how busy he is!
also, pre-emptive warning. when my microphone goes on it is mostly going to be screeching and laughing and other unintelligible sound effects.
it is so easy to have wired walls that don't go to any source of power, i don't understand the need..
can you draw out a castledraft example showing a few ways this would be useful? i am really struggling
dayz is friendly for new players? pft! i spent quite a while running around the beach punching zombies! not to mention the super in-depth homework you have to do to figure out how your stomach works
there is a wiki around somewhere, and an faq here and a few guides on how traps work and such. when you die to a mistake, well, you generally don't make that mistake again.
i think everyone here has lost many hours of work by doing an oopsie or two
killed myself with a loose cat many times while testing something
did anyone come in after and walk straight to the vault?
i have thought about this a lot.. but more space just makes your house super-powerful. and just isn't fair.
oh although the other did i have an idea.. if you purchase another level of house.. it just kind of acts as a second house, independent from any other level.
so, say next to the doorstep (just below, where the exterior wall currently lives) you could go upstairs/downstairs and get to choose which level you want to attempt. each one having their own vault, their own place for the family to be hiding. so yeah, just a second house really. doesn't really add any unfair advantage as far as i can see, either!
edit: wow i am tired. each floor would have it's own vault, but the cash would all be inside whichever level the player chose to attempt. no splitting between levels.
one more bump as i set off into the neighbourhood~
How bizarre, I just died to this house.
I am a bit confused though, as I can't understand how it was built in the first place. All the rules I have read say that family members need a clear path to the door, yet this house has no clear path. If I replicate building that first visible corridor alone, the game immediately heckles me for not leaving a clear path due to the electric trap tiles along the route.
Can you get around this by simply having all your family killed, then build a house as you want it? If so, that seems a bit of a strange way for the rules to work as you'd basically want your family to die so that you can construct a more lethal house. If I'm missing something or misunderstanding the rules, please let me know.
no family means no exit path required.
a lot of people seem to be trading insurance (partner holding 50% of cash) for security.
Well, after a week and 500+ kills my house has finally fallen to a robber with 58 saws, 40 bricks, 4 guns, 16 wirecutters, 6 ladders, 10 explosives, 66 water and 54 meat. That's a cool $81,200 in tools to rob me of $73,721 and my 7 paintings. Honestly I was starting to get a bit weary of this house anyway, hence why I allowed it to float onto the first page, but it just means I now have to go find my precious pitbull painting again
$81,200 in tools that cost me $2,000 to acquire.
your $73,721 built me a fine house though
this was my initial concern with clocks when they first popped up. especially as it was not too long after the whole 'if something is going to kill you, you should have seen it' change that animals underwent.
i'm still on the fence. they allow for a lot of fun things, but they definitely make me paranoid enough to cut a whole row of grids with no animals in sight. i DEFINITELY prefer meeting a row of grids that is already lit.
did you know these guys are still going?

well, either that or a startling coincidence.
Why an encoder? What's the purpose?
makes it very easy to stick the map into a database for testing/whatever on your own server
