"% to Quit" ever explained?

Always been curios if Jason ever mentioned the "% to quit" as having a reasoning? Not that it needs to but it is such a unique way to exit a game.

Seems like an intentionally difficult way to quit (shift + one of the keys farthest from shift), which is good because accidentally quitting at the wrong time can permadeath you.... I've done it.

He also said that it's pretty much the only key that's on every keyboard, regardless of language.

On a related note, I wonder how often he sees "%" in the "leave a message for posterity" records...
