Empty vault trap

Ooooookay, so I'm kinda angry now.

I wander into little fella's lair, and I find his vault nice and exposed, however, behind a commit gate. Little me laughing rushes for the vault and...nothing. I'm standing right in front of the actual vault itself, stuck, forced to suicide/jump on the hot floor.

I DON'T think this should be a feature. Even if it's empty, it should at least resolve the house. Needless to say, I just dumped a house that I've been building for a looong time.

Anyone agree?

Re: Empty vault trap

The vault sprite shows that it's been forced open, meaning that it is empty. Like any death in this game, users own fault.

Re: Empty vault trap

I couldn't see because it was one move down in an alley. I hovered my mouse over it, but it said nothing, only when it was too late. It was NOT my fault. This is probably a bug or a very silly feature. Imagine resolving the whole thing, only to find that it's trololo, empty. Even if that's exactly what Jason wanted, it's just plain stupid.

Re: Empty vault trap

empty vault at the end of a complex puzzle is the ultimate troll and i love it.

but empty vault in plain sight is sweet, sweet deliciousness. you should have been more suspicious!

Re: Empty vault trap

It was a noob-home, just somebody got there first. All it's made of were 4 commit gates, but you could see behind one of them that there was a vault there, but you couldn't see if it was empty or not.

On the plus side, your post has inspired me to finally choose an avatar which, somehow, no one's picked yet...

Re: Empty vault trap

I agree. If you can teleport out of the home by finding a full vault then there's no reason not to teleport out of it by finding an empty vault.

Self-testing is torture.

I suppose the point is to add risk and uncertainty to a robbery. Remember, Jason's theme in making this game was to never make you feel safe...

Re: Empty vault trap

The dev loves this mechanic. Don't expect anything douchey or unfair about this game's design to change because that's the way he likes it.

It's overall a good game in spite of such things in my opinion. That said I don't think plot holes are a valid reason to change mechanics =d

But yes, if you ever commit to possibly not being able to reach the welcome mat or a rob-able vault you're risking everything.
It's very guide dang it but technically nothing in this game is explained so the empty vault mechanic is arguably not exceptional in that way.

Re: Empty vault trap

If tool-carrying robbers die w/ a broken safe in play... does the safe still get the tools?  If it does, wouldn't it be possible for a house to get to a state where the safe is broken w/ tools in it, the family is dead and the house is unsolvable?

The vault gets the tools, but the vault becomes unbroken as it now has money/tools in it. You also couldn't get a house with both a dead family and broken vault on the list.
