Names

I have another question for y'all.

Is there any way to tell what your name is?

Re: Names

Not by yourself, no.
You could get other people to find it out for you by matching your amount of money, but you're not meant to be able to know it.

It's hidden to you so that it's harder to get friends or alts to constantly die with gear in your house then respawn.

Re: Names

Also, does your name change when you die?

Re: Names

I have no idea why, but I think it would be cool to be able to name your family, Oregon trail style! It would be cool to name it after your friends and watch them die one by one... Is this possible? If it is, please let me know. If not. Welp.

Re: Names

All these names are pulled from the US Social Security database of names, and are era-appropriate for the 1991 period of the game (using real probability distributions for names from the era).  And the different family members have age-appropriate names for that era (matching the year they were born).  So, for example, your wife might be named Donna, but not your daughter.  Well, she might be named Donna, but with a much smaller chance.

Wow I thought it was just simple randomness but that is cool. Good thing they have a decade popularity search otherwise it would be a pain to find the popularity list.

Look at the view count... View spam? hmm

EDIT: I think it is bots trying to repeatedly spam Guest posts but not being allowed. (I think Jason has disabled Guest posting) There were some bots doing it on other threads earlier today. sad
