I guess it's a variation on "Watched kettle doesn't boil" or whatever, but I build a house, sit for a few hours, watching tv and having Castle Doctrine on my screen, refreshing the tape page and... nothing happens. I go "BAH!" and log off Castle Doctrine and come back a few hours later, not more hours than before, just without having been on that screen, and 5 people have died in the house. I am not complaining, it's just a funny phenomena. I guess some of it can be explained by the bounties/tools left from the first robber brings in the next one faster which brings the next in faster yet and so on.

I believe there is a sweet spot in both house value and entry to kill ratio for attracting thieves. Try keeping your value around 5k and your kills somewhere in the single digits; it has worked for me.

I'm being more and more confirmed in my 'watched kettle doesn't boil' theory right now, as after I logged on, have not spent any of the money that was left in my house, once more noone is visiting! Come try and rob me, guys! My commit gates are super obvious, I promise, you will not die if you don't do anything dangerous!

http://castledraft.com/editor/JxyH0n This is how my entrance looks! Come visit, my front door is wide open... Yeah some dudes already broke the lock on it, sooo.

This may or may not be my complete house plan http://castledraft.com/editor/nErUWP

Bit hard to rob you if we don't know your house value
Fortress Theory Mod - New objects, tools, and paintings!
I keep dying of a natural cause - Stupidity
The biggest thing that Castle Doctrine has taught me is that the price of your house is proportional to the stupidity of the mistake that kills you.

Currently only 2000, but as you can see my house is not too complicated.

Now 2100 and also, I should never have done this, I know my home is not exactly a high profile target, but putting info here now made me so nervous!

:-D alright, mr. mason

And someone just came in with 2k tools, used a single tool and died, leaving me a 7100 bounty o.O thanks for the money injection whoever took up my challenge!

4000 crisp DoctrineDollar bills of value in my house for some lucky home intruder! Mason, apparently (thanks booper)!

Slight modification of design to protect wife better and while the change in design didn't change how to solve the house, I managed to die in selftest by stepping too far right while solving! That rollercoaster of "doo dee daa, going so well and OHFUCKWHATDIDIDONOOOOO!" is why this game is great. Never remove selftest death, Jason. Never.

My worse was after I stole 79k, stayed up all night building my masterpiece. Then I had some buttons backwards and died during the self test. Yes I was using indicator lights and so forth. The problem was I was just testing too much at once that I didn't completely pay attention to the meaning of a powered door.
Another time I was in a self test and walked into my pit in plain sight. Sometimes the traps just don't register to you in your own house because they feel so familiar. The other thing is, if you just spent a lot of time robbing with 2k tools, you start to underestimate dogs and so forth.
One time I had a loose cat hit a critical button.
IMO, there is something utopian about the place that the self test has within this game. In a sense it means that the behavior of a house is always completely deterministic, well defined, and understood by its creator.

was your vault behind your wife and dog? I got a house in this design a few hours ago

Yeah, but you weren't supposed to figure that out untill the house had earned enough to continue the build! That's the weakness with my current starter design, I need 4-5 deaths for a small expansion up top for it to actually be viable and if someone figures out the trick BEFORE that, I'm SOL.
Anyone got any good 1300$ designs they wanna share? XD
