So this happened...

Someone brought a gun AND other tools to my 590 dollar house to kill a wife that could be killed with a meat and a club... Which would still cost more than you'd get out of killing her. Why? Anyone?

Re: So this happened...

Things like this have happened to me a few times.  There are people who will repeatedly spend the $2000 starting cash on all tools and just go around robbing people and killing their families.  I'd be willing to bet it's mostly new people who don't know better, but some may just be jerks.  It sucks cause now you need to start over, but thats just how some people play...

Re: So this happened...

Likely people who go out robbing for the experience of learning traps and getting ideas, or just enjoying the game, rather than trying to get money and build their own home.

As a basic check you should make sure your house can withstand at least $2000 worth of tools. If your wife can be killed with a meat and a club, and you don't want her to die, then you should improve her security.

The problem with this is that a bit bull costs $320 whereas a club to kill it costs $200.  It's not possible to use $2000 to make it cost more than that to get to your wife, let alone your safe.  You can be crafty and make it as hard as possible, but when the tools are cheaper than the defenses they can tear down, it's not plausible.

If you set the dog uneven to the robber, he needs a pistol. So that are 1200 instead of 200 to kill the dog.

For example this setup costs ~$650 and can not breached with $2k of tools: http://castledraft.com/editor/NqssXP

You should also have a look to the Family Protection Guide and Suggestion Thread

Also, the reason could be that someone wants to get a higher bounty.

Set the wife and shotgun back 1 tile in the hallway so the robber can't step on the shotgun before the wife does, but yeah, that's the basis for defending your wife.

Re: So this happened...

Spending 650 to protect my wife means I only have 1350 to protect my vault AND leave a bounty. I'm apparently a shit robber, I have had no successful starting robberies for over a week. If people go to my house to break it without intent of actually making money, there is no chance I can build up enough money to actually have a worthwhile defense.

Jep, I thought that something looks odd. Corrected it: http://castledraft.com/editor/NqssXP

Yeah, I noticed it is getting harder to rob with 2k at start. People get better and make less vulnerable houses, but I think it this a good development. Maybe the starter money has to increase.

Re: So this happened...

And now it happened again! Someone came into my newly built house which had less than 700$ between the safe and the wife, brought 2k worth of tools, destroyed everything and took 338$ from my safe! This is ticking me off now, as if it's not bad enough that houses are so hard to break into now, but I can't even start up because someone will troll me with 2k worth of tools!

Re: So this happened...

In my opinion, your vault is second in importance to your family; it can be replenished.   I challenge you to adjust your focus with your next starting house.

Re: So this happened...

I try to protect both to be honest, maybe that's the problem. To get good family protection you need pits and pitbulls so you can't really do it with the starting money. And this one took my vault, not my family. The fact still remains that he brought 2k worth of tools to a 700$ house, clubbed all my cats and then robbed the safe.

Re: So this happened...

Murderers tend towards bringing clubs, guns, and dog meat, in lieu of saws.  If the wife has a shotgun, that leaves $800 to reach her.   If it takes at least two guns to get to the family, they're safe from most kamikaze attacks.

Edit: spelling

Re: So this happened...

So what do you build with the starting 2k that also has enough money left over to lure in robbers?

I usually buy two dogs to start, and wait for a shotgun until my first income.

Re: So this happened...

I spent ~1k on family protection and have very flimsy vault protection now. We'll see how it goes.

Re: So this happened...

I use 1k to built up my family/safe protection, there the pitbull is for defending both. After that I scout other houses and see if i get to the vault with less than 300$ (You just need to look long enough).
