I've been working on a mod that will have a bunch of new tools and house objects. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it and share the instructions on how to connect to the server soon. I remembered that Jason said that he asked all of his game developer friends to make paintings, and those are the ones that you see in the game today. So I thought to myself, "You know, wouldn't it be awesome if you did something similar with your server, and people would be able to see a painting in someone's house and think 'Hey, I made that!' ?" And so, this thread was born.
Up until I release the mod into the wild (and probably after that), I'll be accepting paintings from people to put in the mod. Just send your painting(s) to iceman76tv@gmail.com, along with the name of the painting and whatever you want the author to be listed as, with "Painting" in the subject line. I *won't* be putting anything vulgar or obscene in, so please, use your brain. As for quality, I'll be taking almost anything. In general, try to stay away from the "William Beebe" style paintings, where it looks like someone plugged a random number generator into an image editor. I might accept one or two, especially if you also submitted several other "good" paintings, but I'll be putting very few in the game.
NOTE: The painting's name and the artist's name must be less than 40 characters (together). Anything much bigger would get cut off in the game.
I would really, really appreciate it if you submitted the paintings in TGA format, 32 x 32, uncompressed (the same as it is in the game). The easiest way to do that is to download GIMP or paint.net (I use GIMP, but I've heard paint.net is good as well), open up one of the paintings in the CastleDoctrine/gameElements/gallery folder, erase that painting, and start your own. When you're done, just export it (be sure to turn off compression!) and send it to me!
Good luck on your artistic endeavors! I look forward to your submissions!

Nice idea, I'm not an artist but I'll probably submit something.

Thanks!!! Keep it coming, I still have at least 95 spots left
Also, I added a note about the size of the name - the name and artist have to be less than 40 characters (together) (your's is fine, 42dustman )

Sent you another. It would be nice if you could make a gallery of sorts here on the forum. I'd love to see how the collection looks.

I'm not sure there's an easy way to do a collection. Sites like Photobucket can't accept TGA files, so I'd either have to change all of them to PNG(or something), or just host the files and let you download them, which is pretty awkward. Plus, I think the sense of discovery when you first log into the game and see all of the paintings in auction (with yours among them!) might be pretty cool!
On a side note, I might crowdsource the new objects' art as well. I have a very low opinion of my art skills (which is well deserved ), and I want the objects to actually look good. If you're interested, just send me an email, and I'll tell you what needs to be done.

I'd gladly help out with doing art assets, namely because I love doing pixel art, especially with the shader system in TCD on top, which looks really great IMO. I sent you an email, and hopefully will be able to help out.

Ok, since this seems to be a popular idea, how about I take the kickstarter approach.
Right now, I've had 22 paintings submitted. Once I've gotten 30 paintings, I'll make an image will all paintings on it, and put it up on this thread. If we hit 50 paintings, I'll put up an updated gallery, and throw in the art I've made (or should say, will have made ) for one of the new tiles.
Please don't swarm me with terrible paintings now =P

Thanks! I'm at 44 paintings submitted, which is already big enough for the amount of people that are probably going to be playing. Still, the more paintings, the merrier, so keep submitting them if you have more ideas!
As for the mod itself, I'm hoping to have it finished this week. The last couple of weeks of school have been busy, but thanks to spring break, I now have all the time in the world to work on it
