I have a recent tape of a robber named Stephen F. Thurber coming into my home and killing a bunch of dogs and then giving up and killing himself. It is strange because he kills the dogs the "old fashioned way," i.e. by shooting the first one, then luring subsequent dogs next to the dead body of their friends so that he can safely crowbar them. They aren't supposed to be willing to walk into the square adjacent to a dead dog and don't do this on other security tapes, but about a dozen or so dogs do it for this one. Am I missing something about the new dog behavior?

new update made dogs do that

But... I thought the latest update was supposed to prevent that? Didn't v14 make it so that dogs avoid stepping next to dead dogs except to kill?
Edit: Also, I have tapes both before and after this particular robber in which the dogs obey the expected v14 behavior of avoiding stepping next to dead dogs.

I believe so, Ludicrosity. Unless the dogs were already within range, it sounds like a bug of some sort.

Sounds dodgy. Send the recorded file to Jason.

under some circumstances it does seem possible to get dogs to come close to their fallen comrades

I have been reviewing my tapes and have found several more where intruders are able to take out 10+ dogs using crowbars alone based on the fact that the dogs are not observing the new rules. Sometimes they do; sometimes they don't. I even have some tapes where different dogs behave differently with this regard. There must be a bug somewhere in there.

Perhaps they will move sideways next to a dog? Anyway, the new dog movement is going to probably need some adjusting. I think they need to actively move away from dead dogs and not remain. This may complicate it all a bit.

Not a fan of the drug-lure-shoot-crowbar technique, are we?

Exactly. Apart from the odd functioning of the new dog /death movement, there is that drugged meat exploit.

Yeah, I see that Thurber tape!
It's a bug.
Part of it is that dogs that are together stay together, even after the closest one is killed. That's not a bug. But he's also able to lure them south right next to the dead ones. Hmm... looking at the code, I don't see what's causing this. I'll have to play around with it and figure it out.
Will be fixed soon!
Also, in cases where there's still a tape showing something, you don't need to send me the recording. Just give me the name of the robber and other stats that identify the tape. I can look it up just fine in the admin interface (even later, after you die, the tape is preserved for admin view for a while).

Wait a minute, can you shoot sleeping pit bulls with a gun? For some reason I thought sleeping pit bulls couldn't be killed by any means. If so, I have not accounted for this...

upon testing it seems that the pitbull will not move from that spot (unless you step next to him again), but i have observed dogs in the wild keeping clear of the whole 8 tiles surrounding a dead dog. pit/trapdoor a diagonal exception?
edit: ahh this must have been part of the change yesterday, dogges in the wild are indeed stepping into the diagonal spaces now! tricky

I don't think diagonals ever counted. They just avoid stepping next to dead animals (NSEW, not diagonal). And, when one is in a pit, it can be a bit surprising, but the smell wafts out from the pit, obviously.
