Re: What's Your Dumbest Mistake?

pft my house was just to see if i could get brewington working with the changes. didn't need much modification really, was quite surprised by that.
and yes, as it was a very old design it was not designed to entrap anyone. enough people were willing to dive into the pits though, i really didn't do that much robbing. i really found it strange how many people would take 200-500 moves in the house pushing the buttons and then just jump in the pit. and i mean the pit by the front door, not even the trapdoor up the hall to see if it'd pop up or not!

how much did it cost, i am not sure. initially i made it out of wood and substituted a lot of trapdoors with lights, so it was around $29,000. then i layered it up with some metal and added more trapdoors. maybe another $20,000? and then yesterday i spent $69,000 adding pits and concrete and pitbulls everywhere for no reason, and then spent $20,000 on water bottles and another $20,000 on a painting. can't remember if i dropped the water bottles into the twisting nether or left them in my vault. i am sure i left the house with $300-800 anyway.

would be interested to see if anyone could even be bothered to figure it out tongue 11,000 in-game dollarinos to anyone who wants to even try!

Re: What's Your Dumbest Mistake?

I had nearly 5000 dollars and a decently built house that I was very much capable of solving. I logged back on to see that my wife had been killed, but my money left untouched. I fixed up the stuff they broke, reset the panic button and knocked out a portion of my house for family defense. When testing my house, I thought pressure plate offscreen would be hit by a dog one step earlier than it actually was. This unfortunately fried me, leaving me 5000 dollars and several tools for the worse.

Re: What's Your Dumbest Mistake?

colorfusion and largestherb: what method are you using to take fullscreen shots of older houses? Are you using the games playback function?

Re: What's Your Dumbest Mistake?

I happened to have taken a full map screenshot (+) just before I went into the self test that killed me, although I imagine you could use a playback and press it on a part when you were in edit mode.

Re: What's Your Dumbest Mistake?

Just tried it out and it works! I copied a recoredGame file from v15 into my v23 playback folder and amazingly it played.
To take a shot press 'esc' when the game is in build mode and then press +.

This was my final house before the major changes in v16:

To whoever just killed me, excellent trap! I'm extremely impressed. And I know how it works and should have been cautious but you don't see traps like that too often. There goes my 100k...

Re: What's Your Dumbest Mistake?

Just wondering, who killed you? (Their house name, or maybe a basic trap description (not if it ruins the effectiveness, obviously))

Re: What's Your Dumbest Mistake?

Yeah, it was one of those traps that I don't want to give away, but I got my revenge (and my bounty!) so the house is no longer functional. I'll just say it was clever use of clocks and wiring. It is funny how quickly in this game you can go from being dead to having $30k to spend smile.

How is this? Do you still have those $11,000 handy? tongue That house must have been a pain to self test, I guess at least to start if you get it wrong you are safe.

I think I know the one you're talking about... I actually solved it by accident, saw the wiring, and got caught by that security feature.  I don't remember exactly what I did, so I couldn't be sure if I could re-rob it (I actually died when I tried 5 minutes later), but I guess that 30k is gone for good now =P

Well someone tripped my trap last night and gave me a 21500 bounty... maybe that was you? Cutting wires had unanticipated effects?

Re: What's Your Dumbest Mistake?

I tried my hand at a clock house. It was pretty simple, but I got a few bounties.

The key is giving the robber a false sense of security by having the floors toggle on/off every turn. It seems really predictable, but surprise.... the floors also electrify when you walk on them because of the chihuahua.

Re: What's Your Dumbest Mistake?

Here's a small little equation i came up with-
Probablility of death=5x+Y
Where X is the number of dogs put to sleep and Y is the number of possible paths a robber can choose.

Yep, it was your house zed. I'm not too surprised, not too many other players would have the electronics ingenuity to pull that one off.

jere: I remember that house, I came in with a bunch of water splashed up to the top and got scared off by your final door and then came back with way too many saws smile.

ukuko: Were you Mr Sanchez? (the one with the alternating trapdoor next to the doorstep).

Is that the one that has a bunch of power grids?

Re: What's Your Dumbest Mistake?

RIP Mr Sanchez. You really should have removed that power cable into the back of that house - it made for extremely easy access.

Re: What's Your Dumbest Mistake?

I did rearrange it somewhat after your last visit, but I didn't start that house with security in mind. The wife tomb ended up being a much better bounty lure than I had anticipated!

Re: What's Your Dumbest Mistake?

Earlier today I had just walked into a $20k score from a guy who left his vault completely unguarded. Completely upgraded my house and then of course forgot to activate a crucial switch during testing. Mauled to death by my own pit bulls after the biggest score of short TCD career -_-

Hey Gimpy_Weasel, welcome to the forums!

So that's where my money went. I'd just robbed Huckaby using only starter cash and accidentally left my house for over 5 mins whilst upgrading and it timed out leaving it exposed.

Re: What's Your Dumbest Mistake?

I think I robbed the $10k after that... I put it to good use, then got cocky after I managed to get a 2.6k bounty kill and decided I was going to finally break into Luu's house.  Needless to say, I forgot a very important part of my previous life's scouting trip, realized it BEFORE I got to the point where I was missing some tools, still had a perfectly safe trip back, but didn't want to waste the tools, so I forged ahead.  My plan for surviving his trap worked perfectly - I just wasn't able to get past it. And, of course, it also just so happened to shut the path behind me.  There goes my most expensive house yet sad

But I commend, you Luu... very good house design!!!
