Re: DRASTIC RESPONSE: Contest campers

I got into this game since I thought the idea was cool, but what pushed me over the edge was the fact that I can do something fun and get a cool painting in return smile  I hope it goes through and no one robs me... c'mon 14 minutes!

Re: DRASTIC RESPONSE: Contest campers

Fixed so that it doesn't affect fresh-start houses... after dying, you can go right back into your house.

If you keep tools out of your house in your backpack, you can hide value there, but they are "force-returned" to the vault if you're out too long.

Yes, these changes are temporary... for contest only!

Yes, camping was a big problem at the end.

Josh:  regarding tools, that is a problem.  But I'm having trouble distinguishing legit returns home from camping!  Also... 13 minutes left and all.

This is kind of ruining the fun of the game for newcomers.  I can't really build a perfect house on my first try, and had been trying to test with chihuahuas and light panels.  This forces you to leave your house "undefended" for 5 minutes if you test something out.  Could you maybe make it only apply to people with more than $2000?

I think the change is going to be reverted after the contest is over.

Jason, any chance of lowering all painting prices in the next couple of minutes? =P

Re: DRASTIC RESPONSE: Contest campers

Oh, whew. I thought I was getting hit with a really lengthy robbery and I got nervous. I'm past my goal of covering the game purchase twice over at the moment, just got to hold it for another fifteen minutes...

Edit: And then five minutes later someone does clear out my safe, GG, I lose. sad

Re: DRASTIC RESPONSE: Contest campers

Okay, so I think I'm going to make the cop response time really fast now in the last 10 minutes.

Re: DRASTIC RESPONSE: Contest campers

It's a bit late now, but the increase in police response has made it impossible to rob any of the major houses, they require more than 5 min. That means that the top houses are pretty much locked in place.

Re: DRASTIC RESPONSE: Contest campers

Uhhhh.... thank you, carpenter, for the 130k undefended house?  Time for me to leave and be EXTREMELY nervous now, I guess...

And the 700 bounty

Okay, robbery time is 2 minutes now.  Will go down to 1 minute in a bit.

Quick, use ALL the explosives!

EDIT: Iceman, would you be Mr. Jeffrey William McCoy by any chance, leading the pack with a clear $210,000 for a total of $340,000?

Re: DRASTIC RESPONSE: Contest campers

I wasn't sure about 5 minute lock out, but I really liked 24 hour chill timers. Hope the latter keeps around assuming number of players do not decrease smile

Re: DRASTIC RESPONSE: Contest campers

I'm pretty sure twenty-four chill timer was a feature before the contest, so it should be around when the server's back up.

Re: DRASTIC RESPONSE: Contest campers

Okay!  The contest has ended, and I took the server offline at the deadline just to calm everyone down and give us all a chance to catch our breath.

The database snapshot is complete, and I've downloaded a copy offline for safe-keeping and created a temporary instance of the server where I can study everything carefully.

I'll be reverting the end-of-contest rule changes and putting the server back online in a minute.

Re: DRASTIC RESPONSE: Contest campers

I can't decide if I should go crazy robbing everyone when we come back, or see how long it takes someone to finally get to my safe big_smile

EDIT: No, I believe I was lopez

I completely agree. In the last 5 minutes I racked up 10 deaths in top houses. I think that resetting the timers would help rebalance everything after the contest, or else all top houses would have immunity from most people for a day.

Re: DRASTIC RESPONSE: Contest campers

Okay, it's back online!

We can talk about whether the contest chill timer should be revert the chill timer down from the 24-hour number that was set during the contest.

But... we do currently have 300 live houses (a Castle Doctrine record, I think), so there are plenty of houses to rob even if you have a lot of chills.

I can't quit (it says "You'll die") and I can't get back in game (Server error message).
