Lopez - and I've decided to print out "Sierra", by William Beebe... *poker face*

Really, though, I was planning on printing the sunset, but I like the watermelon enough that I might print it out instead.  I actually was going to originally buy the watermelons, but you beat me to them wink

I keep dying of a natural cause - Stupidity
The biggest thing that Castle Doctrine has taught me is that the price of your house is proportional to the stupidity of the mistake that kills you.

Re: The Contest

Thanks for the initial results!

Ah, so that's me! What a boring name. Pretty sure I had just over 120k (that's what I have now and I didn't do anything after server shutdown). Not a biggie, but I do wonder if I'm in 5th or 6th place. TBH, I'd rather have that gift card, but we'll see.

I think I might be 9th! Jason these results don't help much hahaha. Can anyone confirm Andrew Whitfields house is this one?:

Re: The Contest

Synthesis, check your painting id. It should be in a text file in a folder associated with your painting. If it's 2142, that's you.

Re: The Contest

Pretty sure I was at 118k at the end of the contest and, so jere should be on top of me. I don't mind either way, we get more cash wink   Hooray for speech bubble painting that looks like a Moai (Easter Island Head).

Re: The Contest

Congrats to the winners (Except you #3, I hate you for stealing $80 from me, and my favorite painting. I hope you realize you're a horrible person for taking my money and potential belongings. We could have been friends, you could have let me live a nice and happy life, but no...), very interesting ending. I'm definitely amazed how close to the top I was before losing 60k to someone with ~25k with of tools and then losing my 35k house right after from the damaged self-test. If I managed to finish my upgrades before getting kicked out of my house for being idle, and then all of my money was stolen... I would have been able to fully fill the entire space I had available. I can't believe how many paintings you stole from me, I had like 8 or 9 paintings. sad You even used the one of the ones you stole from me as your own favorite painting! And it wasn't even one of the better ones... Soo disappointed.

(Contest winner #3) David Travis Lopez was the one who robbed me yesterday for 60k in this house. (Slightly different and not as upgraded as my house actually was, but close enough to be able to tell the resemblance)
http://castlefortify.com/c/6033991
The right side would have had 6 more layers of metal walls, and the entire maze was upgraded to metal with dogs added. (the costs for upgrades were going to be 40k, but then I lost it due to "idling" while trying to make my map. And was robbed some time later.)

This design managed to kill over 100 people over the past couple days. I'm sure a few of you probably stepped into it and considered a few different things. Some of you might have even stepped into the top and attempted my dog maze, but it was very hard without a map. (I added extra dogs in the fortify link so you don't know my exact route used during the contest)

It was a very efficient way to fill up large portions of the map for pretty cheap. Definitely doesn't seem as balanced when comparing some blocks costs to things like powered doors. There are multiple traps (Like the one RIGHT in my doorway) which are being abused to get tons of kills and people have almost no chance to beat them.

I've been playing this game since v3, but now it's all the way up to v30. The real winner here is clearly Jason, congrats on getting your game to Steam. I still really wish I could have gotten a painting though. :S

Re: The Contest

Does the painting included as part of the total worth of the house?

Re: The Contest

No, only vault contents (resale value of tools in vault) and money value.

Which reminds me, the total that I posted before was the total of ROUNDED house values (as shown in the house list), but not the ACTUAL house values:

$3,163,271

Which means that $1054 game dollars is worth $1 USD in prize money.

With true values computed, you can see just how close it was:

.

Re: The Contest

omg sad .. i shouldn't bought a painting .... i was 30k but bought 1 painting... I thought the painting price will continue increase price as long as it was not stolen....

Anyway I think that feature should be added... like the price of painting increase by 10-20 per hour as long as you keep them safe... and you can sell them in the auction house.

Re: The Contest

I haven't checked exactly but I probably earned nice and sweet 15 dollars. It would have been so much more if a "Souza" didn't march his way through to my vault in my extra protected and complicated maze.

Either it was super luck, or he somehow knew the way...

Re: The Contest

Well, this was a lot of fun. I never managed to get on the first page of the list with the big boys but still I was very stressed, and enjoyed it a lot. Congrats to the winners and to Jason for this great contest! This is Probably the best way I've ever seen to promote a game. I hope you'll get hundreds of thousands of new players thanks to this!

Amazing! Truly crazy considering that the difference in payout is $0.02. Congrats, Perez.

And the difference in the prize of getting the door devil or the gift card.

Though I didn't even have a surviving house at the end of the contest, I enjoyed myself playing this game coming back from v5 (I didn't know what I was doing back then so I couldn't get into it as much). At least now I don't have to feel too rushed to make a new house. I'll just take it slow and have fun messing around with a house of chihuahuas.

Re: The Contest

Just wondering if we have an ETA on the real money payout? Just a rough around X date ish kind of estimate.

Re: The Contest

Sorry everyone!  Yes, buried under a steaming pile of.... Steam!  :-)

30-50 emails a day, that kind of thing.

I plan on having payments go out next week...  Just realized that I need to xfer 3000 into PayPal for that occasion, so doing that now.  Oh, man!  PayPal glitch!  I'm actually on the phone with PayPal as I type this!

ANYWAY.... there will be the "official" contest results announcement tomorrow.

And then, after the money goes out, I'll be working on getting the prizes made (in the case of paintings) and mailed out to the top 8 (and 9).

I know you're all eager to get your prizes.... but please understand that I've got many balls in the air here (including a wife and three kids who have barely seen me in 4 days---been locked in the computer room from early in the morning until late at night each day).

Re: The Contest

Yea I see this game got mass popular since steam release. As I said just a rough ETA which you gave us and I'm happy with your estimate... Don't stress yourself. Make time for your family. Sure we all want our money but not at the expense of your well being. Take a mental break and have a day as a family rather than family -1, go for a picnic or something. I don't mind waiting an extra day or 2.
I think you have done a brilliant job with this game and 4 days of barely seeing your family and being stuck at your comp is a lot.
