Well they were screwed anyway right? Might as well have some choice in the matter.

Re: Meta-Game and Common Trap Mechanics

Magic Dances still mystify me. I get that they're supposed to be obscure and hard to figure out, but is there a way around them other than knowing the specific movements?

a lot of bombs/torches/saws/ladders/guns usually gets around them without learning them. or luck. or wire cutters/water/crowbars.

Usually you can get to see the buttons with 9 explosives and a club. Pretty expensive, but worth it if it's one of the top houses.

Re: Meta-Game and Common Trap Mechanics

I want to see someone attempt my final trap... I've been so tempted to just disable everything up to that point, then I think of how many times I've had a lucky bumbler walk through all my previous house builds and I decide against it.

Re: Meta-Game and Common Trap Mechanics

Lol yea. Overnight while I'm asleep I get about 10k. Usually I only get about 3-4 people actually able to leave out of the 3+ pages of tapes.

EDIT
I see a lot of attempts and lots of tools Mr Carpenter. In hindsight it appears it's actually a lot better defended than I thought.

EDIT 2
Wow you made it to the end. I must admit watching you go through there... You are definitely a top player. I can see what's ticking through your mind as you analyse each trap.

EDIT 3
GOOD JOB MAN! That was cool. So what are your thoughts on the design?

EDIT 4
... accidentally clicked return to house... thought ah well quick self test then I'll get some cash to fix the damage... walked into pitbull.

Well, thanks. I guess I should be at this point. Been playing for almost a year on and off.

Your house is definitely scary. Lots of commit gates. The dog door right up front. See, I think that's too scary personally. I bet new players walk right on by, but I know what's behind that door! The first electric floor commit gate... really tricky. I nearly died but was OK because I had saws.

The hallways filled with electric floors: terrifying. So I don't go down one unless I'm 100% sure I can make it back. I did three scouting trips and on the 3rd one, guessed based on what I had seen that the vault was probably in the bottom left or bottom center. Once I saw that hallway leading to the corner, that pretty much gave it away.

But still, I have no idea what some of your electronics are supposed to do. So good house! Very confusing.

I should have left and came back for my tools, but I forgot about chills. Oh well.

edit: A tip for the future: think about the minimum it would take to brute force your house. Pretty low (compared to your vault) in this case; maybe like ~$10k. That's something I always try to keep in mind.

thought ah well quick self test then I'll get some cash to fix the damage... walked into pitbull.

Ah, yes. The dreaded rearranged pets. I've been there.

Re: Meta-Game and Common Trap Mechanics

The final part was a combination lock. If you pick the right button it opens all teh doors and turns off the electric plates between the doors. Any other button breaks the circuit so the correct button cant open the doors and then it turns on the mass pathway of electric floors.

Gulp. I had a lot of fun with your house Deth and it kind of inspired me....

I'm worth half a mill now and my house honestly isn't good enough to hold that.

Re: Meta-Game and Common Trap Mechanics

Yea I had no biggie dying even tho I was pretty proud at hitting almost 100k.. Now its fun time with electrics and clock timings an stuff. Was a little gutted you didn't play with the finale, you just kinda smashed through it. Ahh well back to those frustratingly hard electronic timing circuits (spent a cple hours so far on them).

*Edit*
Wait what? that says 270k?

Oh well, Swain got me good. At least I still have my family. That didn't last long.

And the timed lights I put in for fun made it easy! sad

Wait what? that says 270k?

uh, yea! That's what I meant by my house was worth half a mill. Well, no longer. I got robbed for like $300k

Re: Meta-Game and Common Trap Mechanics

And he came back.

40 saws. 40 torches. 10 guns. 15 crowbars. 40 explosives. 15 ladders. 40 wire cutters. Damn.

Not only did he take out my wife and safe, but he killed both of my children, AND used as many items as possible to lay waste to my entire house.

Re: Meta-Game and Common Trap Mechanics

$150k, yea. The guy must have had it out for me.

Depending on how many were used tools, he came in with between $95k-$195k of tools. Maybe this was a dupe for Bradley.

Re: Meta-Game and Common Trap Mechanics

Did you cross Tywin Lannister or something, Jere?

*Rains of Castamere*

Thanks for the tips guys. I only started a few days ago, but today I went from nothing to 50k and tons of tools. I'm trying to spend my money so I'm lower on the list, But I'm not advanced enough to know how to pull off a more complicated trap.

Re: Meta-Game and Common Trap Mechanics

Has anyone thought about a good-ol' fakeout by putting the safe behind your family, then you make line of sight with your family and cause them to leave, which leaves the vault wide open? I guess you could include traps behind your family too just to make it less obvious (and still difficult for someone to get there), but it seems like a good case of sort of hiding the vault in plain sight.

At least in my experience, most players assume that where the family is, there is nothing else.

Re: Meta-Game and Common Trap Mechanics

You can press '=' at any time to save a screen shot into the screenShots folder.

You can press '+' during editing or tape playback to save an image of the entire map into the mapShots folder.

If you're playing through Steam, you'll have to find the folders. For me it's something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\CastleDoctrine\mapShots
