Preventing Griefers

There seems to be a lot of "Griefing" going on now - people are spending a ridiculous amount of money to completely destroy other houses.  Since this seems to be going against the point of the game and isn't much fun for the people getting griefed, I really think that something should be done to fix, or at least weaken, it.  The easiest fix I can think of is imposing a limit on how many tools of a type you can bring - say, 15 or 20.  This means that you can't just buy 100k worth of tools and mindlessly destroy everything in sight - you might not even make it to the safe to save the damage.  It might have an impact on normal robberies, especially with loooooong hallways of electric floors, but even that could be circumvented by having different max numbers for different tools.  For the most part, I think it should make robbing more tactical.

So, what do you think of this potential solution to griefing?  Can you think of any better solutions?

Re: Preventing Griefers

Griefing costs a lot of money and is a legitimate part of the game and destroying someones house for killing your wife can be fun. The problem is that there is too much money floating around (see my newest thread). Fixing this should fix over griefing as it would take a lot of work to earn enough to trash a house.

This has always been a part of the game. That's what you do with a good tool-ball!

Re: Preventing Griefers

i was systematically destroying every house i could last night, until my bag mysteriously emptied itself.

my goal was definitely to rid the game of a lot of money. i was waiting a little bit for the 1.2mil house to appear but it never did sad i was going to just spend a bit of it and then literally dump the rest of it in the street (or paintings!) because FOR SURE that much money in the game makes it very easy for.. well, for someone to go around systematically destroying every house!

it is easy to forget that a $75,000 more often than not (as i found out last night) has $50,000 of that money in tools. that is $100,000 worth of tools instantly in my possession. so while it might look like someone has spent a ridiculous amount of money to come hit you up, they could have very easily just lucked into them smile

Re: Preventing Griefers

Griefing seems important to stopping a huge buildup of expensive houses. After a certain point someone has enough money to brute force through any house, so does so and a lot of the top houses come crumbling down.

Re: Preventing Griefers

Yesterday, we had $11 million paid out in bounties to home owners.  That's a lot of money.

In terms of how much bounty was accumulated, though, it was $20 million, for an average of $248 bounty added per robbery attempt.

Today, after the $2000 houses have been removed, those bounty accumulations have decreased down to $186 per robbery attempt.  So, less murders and vault reaches, given the number of robbery attempts (probably because of the lack of $2000 houses).

Also, does it strike anyone else as crazy that there were 81,000 robbery attempts yesterday?  :-)

Re: Preventing Griefers

I wonder how many total steps were taken? Average steps per robbery would be an interesting statistic!
