Linux build of the game has a little built-in cheat for magic dances!

This is a built-in feature that is highly nice.

..and no, you don't even need to activate them because they are activated.

Technically... all versions should be the same, so what you've found is a Bug... You should probably report it.

Or more commonly known as an Exploit.

Not a bug, no sir.

and what you said is probably true, it should occur in Windows & Mac too.

DaVinci, in case you haven't noticed, this forum is a place where people come to share what they know about the game to make it better. If you want to brag about how you know how to exploit the game without explaining it, you better post it on your facebook wall instead.

Re: Linux build of the game has a little built-in cheat for magic dances!

The game is full of trickery and new things to find & explore.

-- Would that mean me not sharing the solution to my TCD house is basically bragging? Because I don't make this community more knowledgable by my traps?

..I should play FarmVille instead.

You don't need to learn to exploit. You need to read the damn OP.

Here, I'll quote it for you:

Informing the ones that want to go in a simple adventure for advantage which other players also have but never use.

Why would I waste my time responding to this topic after posting it if I had some kind of desire for it?

Keep the conspiracy theories comin'.

the only thing i can think of is how slowly animal shadows are faded out and if you move fast you can see where the animals are walking behind walls when they should not actually be drawn

That's not much of a cheat though; but that's all I think it could be as well. Unless there is some output in the recordedGame file that contains animal moves or something, I don't know how there could be any major, built in advantage for players. Otherwise, its a bug, and then it should be reported.

Re: Linux build of the game has a little built-in cheat for magic dances!

It's the same source code that builds on all platforms, near as I can tell, beyond maybe setting a few paths and makefile changes you are getting the same product.  SDL is a cross platform graphics library, there's not really any secret stuff going on for linux compared to any other platform.

All that being said, it is possible with a few particular EDITS to the source code to have a great deal of access to everything.  And that goes for any platform, linux or not.

that is my point really.

this person has obviously found something that they think nobody else has found and is trying to call it a built-in cheat. when actually it is just a part of the game that everyone knows about and doesn't talk about because.. it is just part of the game.

hey guys i found a cheat you can use brick to kill dogs and cats

Re: Linux build of the game has a little built-in cheat for magic dances!

I doubt if anybody else knows about it, and no.

This is nothing about slow fade.

It's more like a debugging function.

and no, this is not a part of the game you see as a normal player.

Well said.  Let's all pull the plug and stop bumping this attention starved kid's thread by responding.  It's what he wants.  Viva Community!

So is there a possibility to turn a debug mode on that gives you a message whenever a pet got on a plate?

Re: Linux build of the game has a little built-in cheat for magic dances!

Basically, the Linux package of the game contains the source code, so by definition the linux package has a built-in cheat for everything you want if you are competent enough in programming.

Re: Linux build of the game has a little built-in cheat for magic dances!

Oh, yeah, if you run the game in a proper terminal, when a dog steps on a switch, the game currently prints "Mobile-triggered transition hit".

It might help somewhat in a magic dance house, but not that much, because you can't tell what the dog stepped on exactly, just that something changed because of a dog.  You can count how many dogs are stepping on switches this way, though.

I should remove that print out... it's left over from some debugging session that I don't even remember anymore.
