Does using a tool take up your turn?

I have been having problems with people throwing bricks at my windows and then chihuahua in order to disable my magic dance trap. I was thinking Ic ould make the second window into a powered door closed after 1 turn by seeing a cat at the same time as the chihuahua. if someone used a brick to break the window, would the cat move and close the door making the chihuahua unkillable? also another easier solution that i just thought of would be to replace the chihuahua with a pit bull, but then he could be long ranged drugged if the cat doesnt work.

No, animals only move if you take a step.  Like you said, a pitbull will stop the bricking, but the best defense is to not let them get 4 tiles or less close to the chihuahua, with a pit or something.

Re: Does using a tool take up your turn?

Using a a tool won't update pet movement, although it will advance electronics one turn (which can be important if there is a clock involved).

If you want to know if something works or not, why not try it and see if it works in a self test?

There are a number of ways to protect the Chihuahua:

- one is to make sure the pit is too long to throw a brick over (a brick has a range of 4).

- another is to use a dead animal rather than a window to prevent the Chihuahua entering the pit, though you will still want to put the dog out of range of meat (again, range 4).

- a third is to have the dog step onto a switch which closes a door in front of it after it is seen - this way it needs to start out of range of meat, but that could simply be because you see it up a hallway as once it closes the door it is now safe.

- and finally you can make your dance in such a way that you need the dog to press buttons to proceed - the easiest way to do this is have it so that it switches on a pit just as you step on it if the dance is right. In this case you don't need to protect the dog at all, though you will still want to make it hard to reach the buttons.

Re: Does using a tool take up your turn?

thanks for all your suggestions josh and iceman. I actually thought of the same idea to have pit that needs the dog still alive before i saw your post. now just to get enough money. i had so much earlier today, probably rank 5 or something, but then i got robbed so i am trying to make some more failsafes.
