You earned a bunch and got robbed. The robber dropped something on their way out so your house still had money in it and continued earning.

It doesn't logically make sense that I can earn something that is robbed while i'm earning it though?

Seems people are having fun with my house tongue

8 tried, 8 died

edit: correction, not 8 died, but 8 were unscessful
a couple of them died though

one kinda made it to the vault but decided to walk into a pitbull instead

It sounds to me like the immediate problem is that robbery is too effective right now.  We've gone from a situation where you could build nigh-unsolvable houses with starting cash, to a situation where robbers can brute-force most houses with their starting cash.  It's essentially creating an infinite money sink, so nobody can afford to build anything that might (temporarily) stand up to the robbers.

One solution might be to make everyone start with no backpack slots, and have to pay $2,000 (or perhaps a bit less) for each slot.  That would mean that you'd start out with (nearly) no tools, and have to *earn* the ability to break houses by solving some first.

That right, but it's mostly due to an unstable transition from one system to another, rather than a wrong direction.

The solution you suggest would help yes, since it's a form of a progression system, but I am not sure that Jason wants to have an artificial progression system in his game. We'll see what he has to say smile

Well for progression you need something to progress with, many houses can't be solved with 0 tools (esp. the ones that include animaltronics)

Soooo.... that little cockslapper destroyed all of my humble beginnings as well. Now, I'd also like to PERMANENTLY know his ID (suggestion from another thread), since it would rather be fun to just randomly fuck up his house whenever possible if the game ever gets going again.... GRRRR....

cockslapper? a bit strong language there tongue

what did they do anyway? and what was your house yikes

You don't have to. But that was always there, it's not new to v9.

But v8 made it less crucial due to blueprints

Hmm I dunno if i like the notion of having to use previous life knowledge to solve houses

#9 Re: Main Forum » Well, now the cashflow problem is on coke... » 2013-06-15 05:34:30

Hmm cant you kinda "win the game" if you use 2 accounts? xD

#10 Re: Main Forum » Well, now the cashflow problem is on coke... » 2013-06-15 05:25:11

I always wondered, are the tools in the vault added to the displayed value?
if not couldn't you stash many many tools into your vault to appear as having $0?

#11 Re: News » Changing the direction of the game (and v9 released) » 2013-06-15 05:22:03

making my scouting trips "safe" by tools i'll have to ditch because supposedly i run away in hurry everytime, and the house wil automagically repair itself? tongue

anyway, $2000 starting money, not enough to build a reaonable house imo, should use it to go with some tools and try to solve houses
if you're at that state you may rather go rob houses than trying to make yours secure

on the other hand if you have money you'll likely want to not go try to rob houses cause random pitbulls

i know theres this concept of being excited, your heart pumping cause you dunno whats around the next corner, but eh if i have money i dont see a point in risking that and if i just died 1 min ago i dont care if i die again anyway

#12 Re: News » Changing the direction of the game (and v9 released) » 2013-06-15 03:33:01

Hmm well what I find in v9 is that I see les incentive in going to rob houses, too high of a chance it needs a magical dance or theres a random pitbull that will kill me since i dunno about it

Oh, well... that.

Hmm... so you can take revenge across lives?  Can't you let the dead rest in peace?

Well, maybe part of it haha, but not only, also I dunno, someone may get known for making tricky houses and i tend to be able to remember nicknames better :3
And you cna probably more easily associate people on the forum to people ingame
And i will stop not knowing my own name big_smile

But as i said, not really expecting this to be changed ^^

#14 Re: Main Forum » Anyone else annoyed by the Names? » 2013-06-14 17:47:57

haha tongue well i can see the upsides of it, i'd just like something that sticks to the player so i can see who is who wink

Ahem... colorfusion, you ARE going to email me the details of that crash, right?  For starters, try playing that recorded game back and see if it crashes for you again at that same spot.

I didn't know the game was crashing for anyone anymore.... maybe a new bug in v9.

well he posted about it here i think

The random names.
Well I don't exactly expect it to change and I kinda get why its there

Just it annoys me and wondering what others think about that? like somehow I find it hard to remember the combination of the 3 names sometimes (and hard to remember my name) and i'd prefer if people would stay more uniquely identifiable
but eh, just wondering what others think, i'm sure a lot of people dont mind

Give v9 a try and see how it changes things.  The mighty have fallen.

Can't try much, too afraid of wirecutter+electric floor bug killing me since i dunno its details
and when i build a house thats semi-reasonable i dont have anything left for tools xD (not like i could get muhc of those for $2000 anyway)

Ah. I should have known the top house wasn't so easy. Specifically I get "House check in failed" after doing it. I wonder if the server side checking (which was implemented to prevent cheating) hasn't been updated with the wirecutters and assumes it's a cheat?

either that or for some reason the old houses use an old check or so

#19 Re: Main Forum » v9? » 2013-06-14 12:46:22

So v9 already has its new perfect house it seems, concrete walls + trapdoors + magic dance

you're the one with the 3-lines chihuahua pressure plate dance? the one that wrote "Hello!" or something now tongue and replaced some of those woodne walls with concrete? or am i wrong lol

Yep I was tongue
I just lost my house though from a crash.

Ah, i think it was me who broke that then XD
and my attempt at the end was trying to somehow make it so the chihuahuas wouldn't un-set the trapdoors when coming for a second time tongue

The server seems to have been updated to V9 now, client is coming soon.

If you get onto the server using your V8 client entering a house will instantly crash the game and kill you. I just lost my entire house from this so a warning to anyone else.

ouch.

Just got robbed for 12K + a load of paintings by Jonathan Marcus Harris. After reaching my vault he went back and put as many dogs as he could into pits and used the remainder of his tools messing up my wiring. (I don't blame him really; my house idea is probably really frustrating to solve)

Searched for his house a while later, went in, solved it, and stole back 7K and the 13 paintings. Not the biggest steal but I was pretty happy. I actually went past his unbreakable commitment trap accidentally and would have had no way out if I didn't get his house right the first time.

Now I'm curious waht your house looked like XD

Well, if theres just top-tier houses to steal from cause everyone else again has <$100 then it may be kinda hard to "climb the ladder"
but i'll wait and see
