Nawh. Jason talked about something similar already. More specifically, about rich people getting access to even stronger walls, or stronger tools to counteract them. House extensions are the same. You're just artificially boosting numbers to give players the feeling of strength, when its a game about vulnerability.
No, some people let their family die. That's a strategy too. Its kind of a ruthless 'all in' strategy and bets your entire value on having a tougher safe to crack.
I realise though, that this new bounty system means that most of your income will be from collected tools. Which means its entire value goes to the safe. If a robber buys 2k of tools, and dies at your door step, your wife gets 25, and your safe gets 25+1000 in tools. The chance your safe will be busted while you're offline and that you'll lose the majority of your income is actually worse than before because the wife plays a much smaller role.
Yeah... Im still making money just fine with tool resales from people dying to early commits, but I fear for the lowbies who don't get as many kills with less complex houses.
Maybe bounties should reward lower value houses more? Not with the current value system though, since rich houses will just buy paintings to keep value low and get larger bounties...
Not really any different from going in, taking screenshots, and posting them elsewhere for people to try. I dont think it's a big deal, rather, it adds to the game. A band of robbers.
Personally, the lack of sound is creepier and more atmospheric. Just the flat eerie tones of the ambiance is enough to stress you out. Maybe some scary mechanical sounds of trapdoors/powered doors slamming open and shut ala Silent Hill?
Do we still need to flatten this guy with first page bankrollers or are we good now?

Or build a 1.5k trap home, instead of being lazy and attempting 2k tool robberies...
Usually at the start, people trickle in slowly because there's not really any gain for them. In reality, you won't spend yourself down to exactly 0, but you'll be close, and people will try to visit for a few bucks anyway. So yeah, the early stages are slow, but that only takes half an hour or so before your first kill and it exponentially speeds up from there. Im not even too worried about doing successful robberies on others, and I'll poke around cheap houses like the one I just put up to see if I can snag a few bucks too.
I usually spend all of my money off the bat to build a efficient value house that I can still upgrade later. Then I go door to door without tools and play super safe. After an hour or so, I have an extra 2-4k which I can use to upgrade my house substantially, and I continue to enlarge it until it takes up all the real estate. You can do this with wooden walls, because you'll realise, 1 cement wall is only worth 3 layers of wooden walls, yet cost disproportionately more. So, don't try to save space at first. After I have a surplus of 20-30k, I can completely renovate the place and make a suitable fortress. Usually by that point, I'm no longer robbing. I save money for paintings, and rarely on a whim, demolish some rich guys house.
Because 2-10k houses are most targeted by fresh spawns. It must be above 2k to be worth the 2k tool buy, and it must be not too hard so its possible to brute force. Thus, by process of elimination via successful robbery or boosting by dying in the house, house values disperse from this range.
I know this was brought up before and Jason responded, but Id like to bring this idea back to the forefront. I know you're supposed to be vulnerable eventually, but I think it fits into the theme suitably as there are definitely remote ways to monitor your actual home.
Maybe the android version is only good for watching tapes? So you cannot occupy your house? That would be enough. It'd be great to have around for breaks. You know, whenever you aren't swamped with post launch work, Jason
Segregate the playerbase? I guess, until the newbies wisen up too, and then have their own hierarchy.
Lmao, I wonder if there can be an elitist alpha vet club or something. The amount of crying from new steam players is insane, meanwhile, my house is raking in so much money I can barely keep up. Such a nightmare to balance. It's like some kind of horrific grindhouse if you keep your house at around 5-10kish, because respawn players dump themselves at your feet with pitiful 2k tools trying to break your 50k+ puzzle house.
Yesyesyesyes!
Thats what I wanted to hear. I haven't had enough time to get back to playing and wrapping my mind around the new meta, but I like it when a dev tries to know and analyze his game, and treats the alpha testing cycle as an alpha test. Get out an interesting, deep game now, and you can worry about audience retention after release. The only time for big revamps is now, so make the most of it.
Although the definitions of beta and alpha seem to vary from dev to dev, alphas are generally used for feature implementation. Since we're still getting new features and introduced completely different game behaviors, it's more an alpha than beta.
It's alpha. No worries. Resets will happen.
I've seen so many game devs handle things way way worse, and not even have the slightest clue whats happening with the meta.
I meant it in jest. I would be plenty excited if he did do it, and it opens up the game to a new market as well. My only concern is that the game might be a bit of a headache inducer given a phones tiny screen and on screen controls. Perfect for a tablet though.
Lmao. The first one was really chipper. But now I'm laughing even harder XD
Sounds fine. You already have movement confirmations too, so that'll help with touch screens. Building might need to be simplified a bit. Maybe a scrollable toolbar or something. God that sounds too awesome... Do it!
(please dont do it)
Yeah I'd be checking on my house every 10 minutes from work. And be out of a job.
Nice! But I think I'm gonna dread the changes this time =/.
Yea I got this a while back and lost a very expensive house . I already emailed jason about it. He said he found the issue.
How would pitbulls ever be in clubbable range then? They either are already next to you and kill you as you pull it out, or they stand too far away to be clubbed. Unless you're saying that u cant club them ever, and we'll have to just shoot them.... At which point, pitbull walls will be the best thing ever.
