Wish you could die from being crushed in a powered door... that would be funny. So many cool trap ideas.

#3 Re: Main Forum » Trouble Starting » 2014-02-09 10:09:05

I built a house up without robbing, get to about 10k so I can build what I made on castledraft, double checked the wiring and died to it not working.
Started over, built up to about 10k, rebuilt the house, double checked the draft, double checked the house matches, died to it not working.
Started over, built up to about 10k, rebuilt the house, double checked the the draft tile by tile, triple checked every tile in the house, died to it not working.
I SOOOOOOO WISH I could check my own death tape like watching a replay, turn off shroud and scroll round to see exactly what happened.

Mental note to self... FFS MAN CHECK WITH LIGHTS! XD

Starting over without robbing is hard but not impossible.

yes, you must walk onto the body and then exit.

#6 Re: Main Forum » The price of cracking a combo vault » 2014-02-07 22:54:00

I used one in a house once. I have tried almost everything once. I think the only thing I haven't incorporated is the magic dance. My current house I decided will have neither a combo lock or a magic dance since almost every house on the server as at least one of those 2.
My contest house was the house that had one and after the contest I issued a challenge and was quickly smashed into oblivion. I posted it on the forums for people to have a look at. It did a good job and got me to 15th place in 2 days from the start of that build. I think its one of those things that you should do to have a play with it, like the clock circuit. Its cool to play with and build. Probably best to put it close to the entrance rather than final defence, that way you can watch people walk in and play with it all day. Less likely to just be brute forced if its at the start and you can just keep coming back and attempting it for a 0 tool cost and little risk of death. If I ever do build another house with a combo lock I will put it up at the entrance just for fun.

I suggested in the Steam forums that you should be able to select if you want to commit to a house or not when you reach the Vault during self-test.
Eg:

Reach exit = You go back to edit mode without being billed.
Reach vault = "Do you want to commit to this house? [Yes] [No]"
[Yes] = Go to house list - you are billed for the materials.
[No] = You go back to edit mode without being billed.

Jason said it was a good idea.

I got this idea so you don't actually have to remove all commit gates to the exit, you just have to "un-danger" the trap you are currently working with, then you can push to the safe regardless of trap is in working condition or not. And fix it without being double-billed for the materials.

THAT IS AWESOME!!! I would love to see this added to the game.

In these cases, what I do is: I set the deadly traps for the pets (I do not replace them with lights), and I modify my house to add an exit corridor returning to the entrance (for example just after that trap, or near the vault). Then I try it, and if I realize it doesn't work or I'm stuck, I still have a safe way around to the exit.

I do this too.

ahhh I get ya. Skim reading misses a lot of points...

#10 Re: Main Forum » Tips Page » 2014-02-06 20:06:28

I still see that as 1 water to get back just like a standard electric floor-sticky button-battery. You could stand on the sticky and water the battery. Of course thats AFTER you have explored down that path.

#11 Re: Main Forum » Contest Results » 2014-02-06 19:53:50

I was 15th overall... thats not bad at all. I built that up in 2 days! I was robbed almost daily during the contest.

#12 Re: Main Forum » This seriously needs to be changed... » 2014-02-06 13:38:48

I test with safe parts too. each death trap has a safe version:
Pitbull - chihuahua
Electric floor - conducting light
Powered door/Powered trapdoor - non conducting light

Don't touch the vault when testing, that way after you get to it you can backtrack to the start again and replace your safe items for deadly ones without the extra cost. The refund still applies until after a successful self-test.

#13 Re: Main Forum » [Suggestion] for making House List easier to navigate. » 2014-02-05 21:45:49

Maybe beside the arrows could be another set to scroll 5 pages per click and another that scrolls 10 pre click.

#14 Re: Main Forum » [Idea] Let the house owner leave money lying around » 2014-02-05 21:44:11

It is an interesting idea. You could set say $1k at a specific location, if the robber takes it the $1k is subtracted from your total and replaced on the ground. If the robber reaches your vault he collects what is inside + all funds lying around on the ground automatically.
Probably could not see this being implemented but I think that would be the way to do it.

#15 Re: Main Forum » Tribute to the Wife of Castle Doctrine (fan art) » 2014-02-05 21:41:00

I made the suggestion a while back... a 3d engine, FPS robbery + sims style editing.

#16 Re: Main Forum » [Suggestion] Buying a new Wife? » 2014-02-05 21:32:15

Oh wow that kidnap/hostage idea is great!
If you kidnap someone's wife the name turns red in the list to show you who took her.
If you rob a house with hostages you have 2 options:
1) The option to release the hostage back to the husband, the wife shows up in the house at the entrance and the rescuer's house shows green in the list.
2) The option to keep the newly "rescued" wife as a hostage yourself, then your house shows red.

Anyone that dies while having hostages releases them (as the police raid the house after retrieving the dead body).
Maybe have a reward system so you can enter the rescuers house, click a tickbox "reward" and enter an amount. Then you leave the house and the funds are transferred.

This would be a really cool mechanic as people would end up having rooms full of hostages.

#17 Re: Main Forum » Bruteforcing too easy, a proposal » 2014-02-05 12:29:40

My value was about 86k - no tools in vault. I did have 3 paintings tho.

#18 Re: Main Forum » Bruteforcing too easy, a proposal » 2014-02-04 20:58:27

Just did a quick calc... I was rolled with over 135k of tools (buy value).

#19 Re: Main Forum » Bruteforcing too easy, a proposal » 2014-02-04 19:10:01

yea I see what you are saying... If you cant brute force then defending a house is too OP. If you can brute force then robbing is too OP. I guess the fuel option is the best that can be added without breaking the balance.

#20 Re: Main Forum » Bruteforcing too easy, a proposal » 2014-02-04 18:53:02

Well I just got steam rolled today. Then, once they finally smashed their way to the vault they still had tools left. So they decided to rampage around destroying everything so the only option left is suicide and restart. I mean robbing someone is fine but why trash the house into oblivion. Maybe a tool cap would be good, say 10 of each tool as a cap?

#21 Re: Main Forum » Clocks! » 2014-02-02 19:58:25

Yea I use a lot of perma power circuits in my houses.

#22 Re: Main Forum » The Contest » 2014-02-02 19:48:43

Yea I see this game got mass popular since steam release. As I said just a rough ETA which you gave us and I'm happy with your estimate... Don't stress yourself. Make time for your family. Sure we all want our money but not at the expense of your well being. Take a mental break and have a day as a family rather than family -1, go for a picnic or something. I don't mind waiting an extra day or 2.
I think you have done a brilliant job with this game and 4 days of barely seeing your family and being stuck at your comp is a lot.

#24 Re: Main Forum » Clocks! » 2014-02-02 13:06:23

ahhhh, well lazy me.. never counted properly XD just went back forth a heap of times an they didn't come on.
What I changed was where the top of the circuit is +-+ and the light is under the - I changed to +++ and replaced the light with a + then connected the new lights to the top +++. Originally I used a wire bridge where the - was but made a mistake in my wall wiring that connected the +-+ plus's to the wire bridge and it still worked so I removed the wire bridge for the +.

#25 Re: Main Forum » The Contest » 2014-02-02 12:39:31

Just wondering if we have an ETA on the real money payout? Just a rough around X date ish kind of estimate.
