#1 Re: Main Forum » Potentially missing painting » 2014-03-05 16:42:36

Perhaps you can make the painting immediately appear in the robber's house after a successful robbery? Except for the ongoing robbery of course. That way, even if he ragequits for whatever reason, the painting will still be robbable?

When you die, I would love to know where you hid that bloody thing big_smile I literally had free movement across your house, but I had absolutely no idea where it was...as far as I can tell, I looked everywhere!

Dude, I have no idea where your vault is, but you hid it well. I panicked that I will run out of time, and I didn't click on that electric floor with the water, which caused my downfall. Enjoy your ladders, explosives and whatnot.

#5 Re: Main Forum » Robbing a 40k house with 20k worth of tools » 2014-03-01 16:51:41

This setup has no meat in it...are you sure that's safe?

I'd rather pack 25 meats than 1 crowbar if you know what I mean...

So what I'm doing is that I slowly convert my abundant, common (meat, water, saw) tools into things like ladders, torches, guns, explosives, while keeping under the 20k limit to avoid better equipped robbers (and draw the more common folks in).

If you had 20k worth of tools (counting resale price), what would you bring to a 40k house to rob?
Suppose it makes you commit after a few steps, so you can't really plan ahead. The house has no wife.

I don't think that is appropriate for the game's theme.

I understand that we had some sort of "launch" recently, that drew a number of people to the game, I am however quite curious if we can expect a high amount of 'fresh meat' in the near future. This question is mainly for Jason. It would be nice have more people aroun, I'm not quite sure how many people are there on the server, but I don't think I could count more than a few hundred houses. I could be wrong.

#10 Re: Main Forum » Why people love so much magic dances? » 2014-02-27 04:13:40

I would join the idea that magic dances are probably the most effective form of trapping. The way I see it:
Pitbull-maze-window combo: cheap, but takes up lot's of space, and cheap to break too
Clocks: Cheap, but humongous, complicated and can be figured out (unless ofc it's made by an electricity nerd, lol)
Combination locks: Only effective at the middle of the house, as people will usually walk away from them given a chance. With some luck and a lot of saws, can be broken too
Commit gates: Can be broken, unless you make breaking them to be penalising.

Magic dances, however, can be effective from a 6x10 size. I usually make them to be inverted, so breaking them is actually bad for you. For example, they may disable a cat that would zap you at screenchange, or...something even better I would not tell tongue.

I would say that the less complex your electricity system is, the better. If you have a long wire system that runs through your entire house that also means that that can be sawn through. I usually make "blocks" with different challenges, and try to keep electricity integral to those.

#11 Re: Main Forum » Family » 2014-02-25 15:48:33

For the love of god, don't make them even more of a burden! That's my point, I feel them to be dead weight, and by making them even heavier...I would not be happy! I don't want to defend them, allright? I think we have them because it's meant to improve our gaming experience, and your wife supposedly saves half your money. My problem is, that you have to spend half your money PROTECTING her, and she, in the end, will be holding onto QUARTER, or less of your assets. So you're better off just loosing her, and adding more defences to your vault, and keeping the money for bait. It's already very hard to stand up from a fresh start, mandatory pit bull stacks would not make it any easier.

#12 Re: Main Forum » Bugs are nasty » 2014-02-25 13:58:42

none. Since I'm alive on 79, and I have a new house on 81, than I must be dead on 80, but as you can see for yourself, that tape does not show me dying.

#13 Re: Main Forum » Bugs are nasty » 2014-02-25 13:36:09

Okay, on 78, you can see my house and my paranoid behaviour in detail.
on 79, I check back for bounties
aaaand 80 is funny. it does not show me discovering that one of my cats is dead, replacing her, initiating a self-test, and than having a funny death. I can assure you I wasn't staring at the name list for no reason.
On 81 onwards, you see me with a new house.
My death is not captured in any of those, and unless I learned how to programme and create fake recording when I was sleepwalking, I can't fake them tongue.

#14 Re: Main Forum » Bugs are nasty » 2014-02-25 12:48:32

It shows the red ! in the top right corner, and nothing else until 93,5. the last thing you see is that I click on the "back to house" button.

I did not walk away, I was scared sh*tless testing a house that killed about 50 people big_smile.

I sent you my last 5 recordings, I think 80 or 81 should be the guilty ones.

edit: 6 recordings

#15 Re: Main Forum » Bugs are nasty » 2014-02-25 12:30:47

This is strange. My last recording of me in that house doesn't show anything after 50%, xcept that I'm offline, and the recording stops at 93.5% Does this mean that I died because I went offline, and the client only caught up when I supposedly "got out"?

My last house ended with a magic-dance involving a leap of faith at the end. When I pressed the last buttons that made me reach the vault the screen ran dark as it usually does when the vault is touched, but this time, it had our favourite "you died" message on it.

Now, if I die for real, the screen should freeze and display "x device killed you" and I have to press "accept" in order to proceed, but that clearly didn't happen (trust me, I died many-many times, I know what I'm talking about). I was pressing no other buttons than "down-down-down", so if I died, I should not have been able to get out without clicking. In other words, I never saw myself lying on the bottom of a pit, and I think I even saw the electric floors flashing before the screen went black (no, they could not have turned on before I reached the trapdoor, as they can only turn on either after 2 moves, or at the leap of faith, if things are done right)

I really-really liked that house y'know. It's disappointing that such buggies can murder one when he took all precautions.

PLEASE, PLEASE I want my stuff back! This is the second time this happens.

...is about to shut (a button has just been pressed), but a pit bull is standing on it, will it remain open until the doggie steps off? I know that it remains open in case of a player, but I'm not sure about dogz.

Many thanks!

The game is mentioned in a video blog called "Extra Credits" under "Games you  REALLY might not have tried". Got me intrigued straight away smile

Thanks boss! I love that idea with the powered trapdoor! It's soooo tempting to brick that chihuahua big_smile

I have my new house already, I'll make sure to implement some of your ideas. Many thanks!

The robber sawed his way all the way into the corridor just before the vault room, bricked the cats, and after seeing the final trap, went to fetch the pitbull. I did not see that coming...Mind you, he was carrying a lot of money's worth in tools.

My main idea was to make a house 2k proof, and while I did manage that, I didn't realise it was time to upgrade to something more serious. After all, 21k is a lot of money. This was also my first serious house that did not kill me tongue

Advice, critique welcome. Like I said, I do realise that more money spent on the house itself would have been essential.

Some things explained:
The initial deathtrap/commitment trap/magic dance set-up seemed like a great idea at first ,,Sure dude, brick that glass, put the doggy to sleep, you just signed your death sentence, ha!", and many-many people did fall for it, but somebody with a proper set of tools could have easily exploited that, that's what the extra pit-bulls are for. The final toggle-swtich was candy in case someone goes that far, so will trigger the final pit-bull, which will cut the circuit, making the house, again, un-solveable. I did not realise at the time of setting that screenchange did not occur when you stepped on the last button.

Thick wooden walls for my budget, the intruder would have needed 3+ saws at any given point to exit, and 3+ to re-enter. SHOULD HAVE WALLED THE BIG EMPTY SPACE -.-. That's what caused me to falll in the end.

The house was built step-by-step from a small starting budget, so some things became clumsy by the end, it was difficult to expand it even further, thanks to the thick wooden walls again hmm.

That's all I have to say, criticise away please!

#24 Re: Main Forum » For the love of god please do not kill me with my own traps. » 2014-02-22 12:34:12

I had this too, I know how you feel. I died when having a house that was worth 10k, and already had some lovely concrete and steel walls around, kept killing people like magic, as most of them had no idea what was coming for them smile

The following rules are to be adopted while testing your house:

1. If you don't touch your vault, and walk away, as you would do in a normal robbery, the game will take you back straight to the construction window, and your costs are NOT deducted from your funds yet. So you could build a house with 10443451423525 money, walk all the way to your vault, decide that you don't like it, and walk back to the entrance, redo the whole thing. (Of course, if your house lets you do that big_smile). In other words: FUNDS ARE ONLY DEDUCTED AFTER A SUCCESSFUL SELF-TEST. This is a very nice feature of the game.

2. Use chihuahuas instead of pit bulls, red indicator lights instead of electric floors, green indicator lights instead of powered trapdoors AND powered doors, windows instead of pits, and don't give your wife a shotgun. Do a test-run with these safety precautions , and if you reach the vault (again, don't touch it!), walk all the way back, and redo your home, making ABSOLUTELY sure that you only exchange the aforementioned things with their lethal counterpart, and that you do the EXACT same things as last time. Do that every single time when your modify your home, you never know if you accidentally cut a circuit somewhere, or one of your wall circuits are touching the electric floor they shouldn't be touching. It won't cost you a penny.

3. Be paranoid. Seriously, I died so many times in this game, I don't take the slightest risk any more unless I'm DAMN sure I'm doing the right thing. If you have some nervousness as you walk up to your commitment trap, leave, check everything again, and than give it a go.

4. Test for all traps. Test if they would have killed you (obviously, with safe substitutes). Dying of your own traps is awkward, but robbers NOT dying of your own traps is even worse. Than finally, do a "solution" test run, doing the counting/magic dancing/pit bull mazing, or whatever you have in place, to see if you can reach your vault.

Hope that helps, enjoy your game!
J

It cannot be robbed with 2k, I made absolutely sure of that (unless ofc you get really REALLY lucky AND guess what trap is coming up next). I'm not sure if anyone will give it a go with 10k, even though the house is worth more than that...
