I forget, but how effective is the best crippled-pet-in-pit + dog setup?

It's 1 gun per 2 tiles, I think. So $600 per tile traveled? And that's already very effective.

New tool: the Terrible Gas Mask. Makes poison gas no longer deadly, but smoke gets stuck in the mask and kills you instead.

Who was Mr. Bynum? That house was really weird, and had lots of random elements. In the top right corner, past the vault, there was a chihuahua-based floor trap that was missing a floor. There was a chihuahua who just threw himself into a pit. There was a CAD in a really easy position to kill. And the door to the vault could be opened and closed at the press of a button right out in the open.

Also, the outside walls had weird random extra walls here and there, like they were done very haphazardly, but they followed a pattern. The purpose of half of it befuddled me.

Welp, forgot to provide power to my failsafe. I hate the feeling of staring at the screen, knowing you f**ed up real bad, and knowing that there's nothing you can do about it. There's no hail-mary to save you. You screwed yourself over. And it's all your fault.

I'll probably try to rebuild in the morning, because I've been trying to complete this design for a long time.

You're Mr. Cook? Where the hell is your vault? And how does that house work?

Whenever I see a powered door, I bring a crowbar or two.

Hidden behind some magic wink  The core of that house seems to have confused robbers quite a bit more than I thought it would - I still don't quite want to release the map until some lucky robber discovers the secret, and imagine the sequences of looks that crossed their face.

Did you make another impossible house again, iceman?

yo bro you so stupid you have 2 accounts, brag about it, die in your own house? Definition: Failing at life. And that's why don't you have 8 billion with accounts?

Congrats on your inability to read! I died in somebody else's house, and it's pretty clear from what I said. And being careless while playing early in the morning before having any coffee is probably not a unique experience.

This is actually pretty funny.

But frankly, now I wish I hadn't posted about this in the first place. I mean... yes I have an alt, but it's just an old account from a friend who doesn't play anymore. I didn't even buy the game twice, he loaned his copy to me! And I've mostly just begun doing stuff with it: with all the discussion of dual accounts, I figured I might try it for myself.

Same. ~6k house and lots scout without tools the first time, with tools second and leave. And make third attempt and die last.

This sort of makes sense. You create a new 2k life, and choose a house to try robbing. You start with a tool-less scout. Then, with some knowledge of the layout, you spend your 2k on tools and give it a shot. You fail, but get out with your life. You have no more money, so you'll have to start over somehow. Because you brought tools into the house you were robbing, you'd get chills when you die, even by suicide. So you try your luck at a final tool-less robbery. It'll probably fail, but it's worth a shot.

Account 2 die at main account.

Account 3 rob account 2 over and over and over.

Game won.

Wait WUT! That would legitimately work! Now I feel the urge to spend $16 more on this game.

Of course, I won't, but that's crazy...

I'm not sure if this is intended or not, but bounties for killing family members aren't applied until the end of the robbery. So if I start a new house, go club somebody's family, then die in their house before leaving, they only get a $200 bounty, despite the fact that the three murders should have increased the bounty.

What sort of noob doesn't immediately check what's above and below them upon entering the house? They would find the dog and flee. Seriously, who skips this entirely and checks the second layer first?

I guarantee that you were a noob once, and died to a simple trap (not necessarily this one) before. Instead of mocking new players, be helpful! For example, instead of saying what you did, try this: "It's never a good idea to head down a path when a dog from a path you already passed could cut you off from the exit. Instead, check paths close to the exit for a dog first, so that you know the later paths are safe." That's more informative, and teaches new players how to not die, as opposed to making fun of them for doing so. A helpful community will keep more people playing - and that's more fun!

#266 Re: Main Forum » Nice and Nasty Players » 2014-03-26 10:11:29

Well, the Castle Doctrine is an incredibly vicious game, with very little protecting new players from the veterans. Not only that, but truly dedicated players are willing to go pretty far to do very well: I doubt that I'm the only one who uses my alt account and the houses of the poor to transfer massive bounties of $10k+ to my main account. However, this isn't to be frowned upon! It's how the game works, and calling players "nasty" just because they do something that's in their advantage is ridiculous.

As JoT said, other actions that are considered "nasty" or "bad playing" really are only done for entertainment value. It's a video game. If I'm bored and want to use $2k tools on a $300 house, I have every right to do it - I paid for the game, didn't I?

#267 Re: Main Forum » Fortress Theory Mod - Version 3 » 2014-03-25 14:58:14

Congrats to Gyuri for taking me down! I'm surprised that my house did so well; I built it pretty poorly and with nearly no forethought. Now that it's broken, and I really don't know a good way to fix the many things wrong with it, I'm just suiciding (despite still having $4500 from my wife!). So, here you guys go: the first "fallen house" of Fortress Theory!

yGVyDeR.png

Most of the design is devoted to a large (probably too large) commit gate featuring two CADs and three doggie commit gates. It's very hard to get through without committing properly, and attempting to do so in any improper fashion, like using the wife-protection dog instead of the CAD, just gets you killed. The gas maze was pretty useless, because the robber can just mouse over them before they turn on to know which is which (get on that fix, iceman!). The bit lock was decently secure, along with the final door trap. Gyuri eventually robbed me by cutting down from above the final trapdoor, so that the cat didn't see him, and using a ladder.

I'll probably work on something more clever and better functioning soon.

Yes that was me. It could be so easy if that door wasn't there... I could place a wire bundle there and power the pit and the powered door.

Besides, you killed my wife. Twice.

Yeah, that door placement was intentional for the exact purpose of stopping you and your nefarious ways. It was definitely not just placed there for no real reason. It was a very tactical and... um... strategic placement! Believe me, I'm smart, not just incredibly lucky.

And your wife deserved it. She said mean things about me!

I'm beginning to realize how ridiculous it's been that by house had stood for so long when the main protection it has is a 4-bit lock. I mean, it should only take seven lives max to brute force, and I'm not changing it very often... as a matter of fact, I think that people have reached my lock more than seven times already.

#269 Re: Main Forum » Fortress Theory Mod - Version 3 » 2014-03-25 13:40:00

If you just gave my place another shot Gyuri, I have to tell you that you should have known better. After you got so close to my vault before, why would I not add another layer of security there?

#270 Re: Main Forum » [Suggestion] Unique animals » 2014-03-25 11:48:38

There's a simple problem with this: people will buy unique animals and hide them behind many layers of concrete and pits, away from their trap and unreachable without tools. Why would they risk their unique $30,000 white tiger when they can use a cheap pit bull instead, and just keep the tiger safe? Then even if their house is robbed, and taken off the list, they keep the animal. And nobody would blast through many, many walls looking for something that might not even be there.

The house is definitely still the same! wink

#273 Re: Main Forum » Fortress Theory Mod - Version 3 » 2014-03-25 09:10:50

Cool! I'm the richest guy now! Many thanks to the guys who gave me so many tools and bounties; I couldn't have done it without you. I'm actually shocked that I haven't been robbed yet, because people have been getting pretty far in my house. One robber actually got vision of my safe, then died about four tiles away.
