with v14 the wife became mmmmmmmmuch easier to protect without taking up half the map! i will definitely be attempting to keep mine alive in future wink

the risk of testing your house and making a vital mistake that ends up in you being killed in your own trap always makes the self-test a HORRIBLY tense experience. i love it

how far does a spark jump from a rivet!

#278 Re: Main Forum » Too many Paintings? » 2013-07-13 01:52:33

v5 had completely impossible houses that were only solvable if you cheated. which is probably why people started cheateding, since nobody seems to be cheatering since blueprints got removed and backpack got unlimited!

i like when people mention their favourite paintings on the forum so i can find them and make them mine big_smile

Oh, I forgot you have 2 accounts. How I envy you! I'm tempted to buy a second account, since there is no other way to kill your family and I can't do much of anything with the current starting money.

when starting a new house i usually make a very simple wooden maze with no danger and just leave my house overnight and the family are usually massacred by the time i get back!

it is still interesting to watch the tapes of people coming in and killing your children for no gain whatsoever! hmm, i guess vandalism is a gain?

well i don't know about you guys, but i always do my robbing with my rubber boots and other personal protection equipment!

ohh, and yes i always liked the idea of an 'on' wired wall sawing causing death. bomb/blowtorch would be a safe way to cut through smile

so i can stand on a dead pitbull safely, i just can't step off it into the direction of the offending living dog?

spoiler: this is why i keep saying voltage detector is useless tongue

electric grids seem to be the only 'broken' electronic that stops power from passing.

sticky button and trapdoor i think i am okay with. although i think i'd also be okay with crowbar breaking sticky buttons, but the crowbar feels so powerful already so i'll stop talking about it now.

but! a crowbar'd door makes me wonder.. should it really still be providing power? in every action film i've seen where ACTION HERO forces open a powered door, there are sparks flying and small explosions and all sorts! surely that is going to burn out some local wiring?
a doorstop'd powered door.. i think that is okay, but i'm not sure. the motor wont be happy, but in the same action films a door that is already open and tries to shut usually doesn't spark and explode as much.

disco light.. i think disco light should be similar to the grid, a bottle of water to turn that sucker off. i only really bring this up as i have been planning some evil electronics lately that try to make use of the robber being unable to do anything at all to interrupt power through lights. maybe it doesn't matter that much, in most cases there will eventually be something else that can be broken. but my plans were kind of evil. hmm.

~ i realise it is a common practice to string a lot of doors together to trap people in place, or keep people out of places. i am not calling for the door change to happen, i quite like how they work now. just more mechanics to discuss, i do not think i have seen anyone mention this before!

Your place can't even be scouted for less than $2700, and that doesn't even really get you that far.

i didn't want people coming in with a suicidal stream of $2k tool sets picking it apart super easily! $3000 worth of ladders gets you directly to the cat's spot. dogs can easily be tempted into pits!

once you figure out the first part, you can get to the next part. and scout that out. and so on! i made it nice and segmented in hopes people would try and figure it out 'properly,' somewhat reminiscent of blueprints.

#284 Re: Main Forum » Multiple vaults? » 2013-07-11 06:27:08

right now the partner feels very much like a second vault - just with some different rules.

and i have found myself simply killing off my whole family since the unlimited backpack change - they are just taking up too much room for my evil plans, and are a liability if i leave them alive!

#285 Re: Main Forum » Show me yours I'll show you mine. » 2013-07-11 03:48:31

this is kind of related to the thread topic, but for brewington.. try scouting where the cat goes!

all the tapes i'm watching, only two people have even tried to look down there!

More to your point, wouldn't it be cool if you had fewer backpack slots? Sure there's only 8 slots and 12 items, but because there's a few redundancies (e.g. explosives are an expensive substitute for torches/saws), there's not much to decide there.

explosives are the only way to get through concrete. the voltage detector is more or less useless though, if you know what to look out for. if there was ever a tool to be replaced out of the twelve, there would probably be a very popular vote for that one.

brick, water and doorstop could probably be raised to $10 safely. they are cheap for sure, but very, very, very, very useful. to the point where, as you say, for $100 you can have 10 of each - a price that has made me (very almost) always carry that many on every scouting trip. it isn't even a thought, really. maybe $20 would make it more of a thinker as to bring more bricks or more waters or more doorstops on my scouting party?

#288 Re: Main Forum » An idea regarding tool use » 2013-07-09 17:37:55

this was changed quite recently, as before you could just 'use a tool' to get a pitbull to stand next to you, ready for a good whompin' with a crowbar

remembered that i did this and i find it quite useful, so maybe some others might, too!

it comes configured for 1024x768 and i have only tested it in windowed mode, but i imagine it is fine in fullscreen.
common resolution for players here seemed to be 1920x1080, but i have a 16:10 monitor stuck at 1680x1050 so i can't help with the coordinates for that, but it is easy to find them if you take a screenshot and can figure out autoit3 (pretty simple) smile

xtJTakD.png

written in autoit3 in about four minutes. hot keys bound by default to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. ~ F2 closes the script.
maybe i'll stop being lazy and remember enough autoit to make it pause instead of closing, so you can use your number keys in other windows without having to rerun the script tongue

download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wx0qrqkodkwm7 … otkeys.rar ~
virus scans: jotti.org ~ virscan.org
feel free to not trust it and compile the script yourself, i will not be offended!

i have included the source file (which can also be found below) and a compiled executable for those who do not have/want autoit installed.

and also here is a quick dumb video of me committing suicide on top of a chihuahua. http://youtu.be/Kb8-tbG_Nvs

This may have been me. I did tear down a house that kept appearing on the list while bored this morning, but it was pretty dead to begin with. I just assumed the owner would restart since what was left wasn't as good as what could be built with a fresh $2000.

no way! the idea of a 'beaten house' is a great way to lure people to their death when you've actually reconstructed around the blown up walls/traps.

#291 Re: Main Forum » money money money » 2013-07-07 06:32:17

indeed. i am interested in opinions of the act, though. it seems obvious that it has been going on for a long time, however it has never really been brought up as an issue, despite it being.. well, a super huge mega-issue, really! especially with a competition coming up.

mostly i am trying to bring it to jason's attention, although i imagine he is aware that this happens. i am interested to see what people think is acceptable and what isn't, and then to hear what jason's take on the situation is, taking the player's opinions into account or not.

i will steal my good friend's idiom and call it the elephant in the room.

edit: free $2000 houses definitely pop up a lot, i have made quite a lot of money from them since i started playing. they are usually always around, and i am guilty of leaving some around myself when i go on a quick tool-less scouting / suicide neighbourhood visit!

but the partner/vault configuration seemed almost streamlined for efficient money grabbing. almost. i guess partner right on the doorstep would be quicker. and it is very easy to write a macro-script to automatically churn out these houses, maybe someone wanted to flood the neighbourhood with free money?

i apologise if it sounded like i was accusing anyone of anything, but the behaviour definitely seemed like a good time to poke at the elephant and try to see what people think about it. especially in such a revenge-fuelled game wink

ps. would you mind removing that picture of my electronics/vault since the house is still active, thanks wink

#292 Re: Main Forum » robbed houses earning money » 2013-07-07 06:27:59

oh really, that seems like a strange policy when houses are very easy to make one-time robbable! solves the mystery if that is the case.

david ernest stanfield appears to be quickly generating great wealth with the express purpose of breaking into my house. they just came in with 35 ladders and a bunch of bombs, and ended up 1 bomb short of reaching my vault. which was quite amusing.

there are a lot of $2000 houses popping up with the vault and partner right next to the doorstep. same configuration every time. i am watching the dollars trickle up on stanfield's as we speak. $800, $6100, $20,000. down to $9400.

rudolph daniel navarrete seems to be doing the same thing. i stole $18,000 from them by breaking their house. their house is now repaired, they have $10,000 and i have two security tapes of them coming in with 20 bombs and 10 ladders, then 20 ladders and 10 bombs.

the $2000 houses with the partner/vault configuration are still popping up. navarrete has $21,000. stanfield is down to $3600. (and as i edited this post, standfield went to $26,000 and made a tool-less visit to my house which now has $1. i intentionally spent all my money to see if he would still come when i had no cash.)

are people really printing their own money just to vandalise people? that seems.. hmm. i can understand doing it to test the limits of home defence, but to go out and vandalise people for no gain (since you can print any money they might have, and already have in order to be able to afford the attack) is a bit much, no?

maybe jason could come and tell us what he thinks of these practices, so we all know whether it is naughty or a vital part of testing with so few houses around!

last night i took daniel steven smith's money. the house is such that it is a one-time rob-job. this morning he appears to have $3700, but the house is still in an state where it would not pass the self-test.

a buggy bug has lurked in somewhere? shane randal flores also appears to be affected.
