Yeah I recently had my most successful house yet and rebuilt for like 9k to keep the value down. After the third or so committrap I came upon a powered pit that I had forgotten to connect in my remodelling... Felt so bad, but at the same time one of the key emotional points that keep this game worth playing!
Someone brought a gun AND other tools to my 590 dollar house to kill a wife that could be killed with a meat and a club... Which would still cost more than you'd get out of killing her. Why? Anyone?
Technically any house can be robbed with 2k if you know exactly what to do, because you might just need one ladder.
Technically any house can be robbed with 2k if you know exactly what to do, because any house can be solved with no tools. Now the question is, is it LIKELY that someone with 2k will stumble over the solution to your house?
All that being said, it's hard to gauge how much room is worth using on something that doesn't bulk up real defense.
Especially with the starting purse.
jere - Well that sucks for a bottomscraper like myself. I was content at the middleclass hump but I am not on the bottom where I am now.
MMaster it wasn't a problem before, I could rob 5k-10k houses with a few deaths, but houses are so hard now, especially clock houses, even in that range that I get three pages of purple houses and nothing to show for it. I know part of it is that I'm just not a very good robber, but it's still souring me on the game. I enjoy building but I don't get to, because I have no money.
I am all for fun with electronics and code locks and whatnot, but clocks are killing the game for me. I still have not gotten over the middleclass hump, but that is not what is bothering me. The last few days, I've encountered so many clocks that I think I have only had 2 successfull robberies. I know you're gonna say: "Well Cheese, old buddy, old chap, you can build a clock for around 700$ and cash in yourself as well?" but... I don't want to. I don't want to HAVE to build my house a certain way for it to be worthwhile. With a 5k starting bank roll I can build a house that I like and several different trap options are open to me, but with how people have gotten better at building houses and among that a lot of clocks, I can't even reach that 5k starting bank.
I was about to post an exact copy of that screenshot ![]()
I find that the best house to build with 2k is built with the 6-9k I make from spending those 2k on tools.
The vault sprite shows that it's been forced open, meaning that it is empty. Like any death in this game, users own fault.
The game is open source, what you've paid for is a lifetime subscription to Jason's server. I'm sure there's a download link to be found out there somewhere and as it is open source, quite legal to find and use.
You only get chills for dying in a house.
Well it might help at higher levels but it is putting a serious damper on the ability to start out with what might be below average robbery skills. And I just don't see how I can do anything worthwhile with the starting 2k in the terms of building.
I have stopped building with my first 2000, because of the lower starting bounty a house without at least 2k to lure people in simply earn money too friggin' slow. This presents a new problem though, since I am not very good at robbing. I realize that it means I am putting alot of money out there, dying in good houses again and again, but it also puts a hamper on my own activities. Right now there are basically no houses with a worth between 5000 and 12000 on my list that are not frozen. Higher worth becomes impossible for me to break with the starting 2k (you might be able to, but I assure you, I am not) and lower just isn't worth it as with 2k tools I can't both get the safe and the wife in most circumstances. So after just an hour or so of playing today I am frozen out, basically, untill tomorrow. Thoughts?
I think the best chance we collectively have, is for people to keep trying and failing and updating the map and then in the end a chain-robber with an empty house, and as such not someone Mr. Price can rob to put a stop to, can bruteforce it. I am not a very good robber myself.
oh i can't believe there isn't a page on it in the wiki!
a long time ago the game was changed to prevent combo locks by adding a viewable blueprint for every single house that you could access from the neighbourhood screen. i'll go and see if i can find an old screenshot.. they were beautiful.
but basically, this tool was suggested before blueprints came about. and then blueprints came about. and then the game just became an electronics puzzle solver. .....it was pretty awesome fun, but not the game jason wanted to make.
edit: found one on goooogle
That is beautiful. Jason, any chance of a feature that lets you export your own map in this format? Would be great to show off a good dungeon after it's crumbled and you move on to new traps.
I just had the, I am guessing not completely uncommon, experience of my wife being shot and the robber who shot her dying in the same robbery. I still only got 100 dollars. How about adding the 'kill bounty' immediately? Let's say a mass murderer kills your family but succumbs to your devious deathtraps, does this not warrant the 3k bonus there would have been on the guys head had he walked out and died in another home?
haha, i found all the old notes back from even v5 when i was cleaning up the other day. i will have to take a picture sometime.
i think this game is actually helping to improve my memory.. i have so many OTHER PEOPLES house designs and how to solve them in my head.
As a relatively new player I want to see this please!
You have to understand though, this is not a side-effect or a bug or anything... it's a game feature.
Jason has stated that he likes the way it works, forcing you to either remember the name, or write it down on a little scratch of paper, making your desk/play area look like some kind of psychotic killers after a few hours of gameplay ![]()
No I needed the space. Anyways, I got robbed during the night, but started out successfully robbing a 10k house so I should be able to build something good again. I feel like I've finally 'cracked' this game.
As that last thing was written someone killed my last surviving family member, my son, so there is no longer a pitbull at the top. Will probably cost me quite a few kills.
Actually the top has the pitbull that everyone walks into and all it's doing is protecting my now dead family. The bottom has a commitgate.
No but if you want to find me my value is currently 8400ish and as you enter there is a concrete wall spanning from top to bottom of the map, giving you a choice of up or down. I will give you a starting hint and tell you to go down.
I just wanted to share with you all, my neighbours and potential robbers:
Since playing from around a week before the steam launch, I now finally have a house that I think will last to the upper game. There is still room for expansion, and it is already pretty solid. I've loved this game since day one, but only today have I gotten over the 'hump' that has been hassling me. Thank you, everyone who's died to my wily traps so far.
PS: The one thing that has gotten the most kills in my house so far, is a pitbull with no commitgate before it, that people can just turn around from and leave the house, but instead decide to walk right into it. Thank you, Rollo, my favorite dog.
